Caught in the halls.

Draco and Harry were good at a lot of stuff, running off in secret to do some late-night snogging wasn’t one of them. It was obvious really; Luna wasn’t sure how nobody else had noticed. It’s not like they were hiding it, they just wouldn’t — address it. Luna could respect that; she wouldn’t want anyone to know about her business too, why would it be any different for Harry and Draco?

But Luna still couldn’t understand how he nobody had noticed them. Sure, she had a knack for seeing things most people shouldn’t, but this! People should notice this! It’s been 3 months of secret whispers, glances, meetings, and unfathomable excuses. Surly Hermione would notice? She was smarter than the rest of them. Alas, she was too busy with Ron and the 8th-year N.E.W.T.S. to even notice if the Gryffindor table would have gone up in flames.

Luna had started her day bright and early, as she always does. It’s one of the few things she has control over, and she’d like to keep it that way. Waking up before the majority gave her a feeling of peace. The calm before the storm she’d told Ginny once.

As per schedule, Luna wakes up at 7:30 A.M. Just a little before everybody else’s alarm goes off. She’d been doing this same routine for a little over 6 years now, it’s become second nature to her in all honesty. As she puts on her robes, ready to leave Ravenclaw towers, she hastily remembers to grab her wand, she twirls her hair into a bun and puts the wand right through it, keeping it in place. Luna would usually forget about her wand most days unless it was directly on her person.

People called her Loony Lovegood, she might as well live up to her legacy. Keeping her wand at an angle where it’s aiming at her head seemed perfect. Luna hadn’t let it get to her, the nickname that is. To be fair she enjoyed the nickname when it came from someone she cherished. Say if it came from Harry, she’d be bright smiles all around.

In any case, walking into the Great Hall when nobody was there was comforting to her, nobody being awake except her. That was until she turned a corner and saw Harry and Draco walking hand in hand, all giggly and smiling. It was odd to see Draco this comfortable, especially considering last year. She never liked talking about the war. Always pretended it never happened, probably wasn’t the healthiest way of coping, but it worked for her.

Seeing Draco finally grow into his body, being less pale — than usual, was refreshing. Seeing Harry become less jumpy and finally being able to embrace himself was a right sight to see. She couldn’t be happier for the pair. If they just told everyone else! They were right there, right in Infront of her! She could’ve gone ahead and walked right beside them, indicating she knew but doing so would disturb them. The last thing Luna wants is to disturb someone when they’re happy, she knows what it’s like when people call her out when she’s just doing the thing she loves most. At this moment, Draco and Harry love each other the most.

Luna can’t help but smile; and turn on her heel walking in the opposite direction. She always takes the other route, always has since she found it in 2nd year. But maybe for a moment, change was good.

Change caused them to find each other amidst everything else. Oh, she couldn’t wait until they could be themselves around everyone else.

Though she wishes there was at least one other person she could talk to this about. Luna wasn’t known for her amazing secret-keeping skills it’s a wonder how she managed not to slip up so far. War changes you, that’s what Luna learns.

It's why she isn’t prejudiced against Draco.

It's why when she was stuck in the cellar, she gave Draco pitying looks every time he’d sneak off and give Luna a proper tray of food, rather than some chum.

She can’t say she knows what it’s like, to be on the other side of the war. She can confidently say, however, it mustn’t have been easy, especially if you didn’t have much of a choice as to which side.

Luna doesn’t speak for Draco, but she likes to think that if given the choice to go back in time; Draco would jump at the option. He’d leap to it.

When taking her new route, she can’t help but notice all the portraits in this corridor. The way the light sparkled on the parallel wall. She follows the ray onto a tile, it’s very briefly hidden by some drapes, but she manages to see it.

That’s when she sees it.

D & H

And right above:

J & L

She’s dumbfounded a little, who would J and L be? It’s a mystery for another day.

Today Luna just wants to eat some pudding for breakfast.
