The Runaway Girl

The day that followed came and went much in the same way. She would make breakfast, leave him for an hour to eat, whilst she read. They would leave to the office once he was fully dressed. Thomas would meet them with coffee. He'd learnt over time that Sebastian liked his coffee black, but with two sugars. A unique combination. He had joked with Sebastian one morning.
"It matches your personality.". The girl in the corner, huffed at the remark. What was she insinuating.
They spent hours researching The Red Virtue. Every document the ministry had was read. Every dark wizard in Westminster was looked into. The girl offered no aid in their endeavour, opting instead to focus on her own research. She remained silent for most of the day. Only looking up when Thomas would approach her with a sandwich or another mug of coffee. He could help feeling the pang of regret everytime he'd touch her arm. How she smiled up at him brightly. They were perfect. The perfect witch. Smart and capable. The ministry's pride and joy. And Thomas Rutherford. Handsome. He seemed content to be her shadow always. He thought back to the last night he had seen her. How she felt in his arms. She didn't feel like the chosen one. She didn't feel like the girl who could kill trolls and defeat Goblins. The girl who rode a graphorn and came face to face with a dragon three times. No she felt like none of this. In that small moment she felt like a girl. In the arms of a boy. The boy who loved her.
Did he feel like that. When he carried her to bed that night. When the girl wonder drops her guard.
For the next two days, the trio worked none stop, 9-10 each day. The girl would speak once or twice but for the most part kept to herself. Sebastian wasn't sure if he loved it or hated it.

When he woke up on the third day, she was already dressed. Packing a bag in the kitchen.
"Get dressed, now. No time for food. We got to go." Confusion stuck him to the spot.
"What are you on about?"
"Go get changed. I've got to go and its already a detour to drop you with Tommy."
"Drop me off. What in Merlin's name are you going on about?."
"Go get changed Sebastian I haven't got all day."
And he did, only in hopes that she'd stop acting so cryptic if he did.
As soon as he returned she was crossing the room. He held out his arm, opting to keep his individuality. If he had to be with her at all times he'd at least do it under his control. She relieved him and they were gone once again.
Thomas sat in the same chair he always did. Sipping a mug of coffee and reading a file which he had pinched between two figures. He looked the picture of a stereotypical detective. His red coat had been neglected by the door leaving him in his rather tight white shirt and stripey tie. It highlighted his physich flatteringly. Part of Sebastian envied the mans large, toned arms. A privileged he had lost to the years in azkaban. Perhaps when this is over he'd start working out. He doubts he'd ever look like that, but he was sure he could get close.
"Morning sweetheart, sleep well." He was on his feet instantly.
"Mmmhm, I need to leave, no time for coffee. Send me an owl if you find anything. Bye. Love you." And with that she was gone. She hadn't lied when she said she was in a hurry. And in her haste she had told neither man where exactly she was heading. Alone. With a dangerous dark wizard on the loose. He wasn't sure why he was surprised. She had always been like this. Running off on her own. Solving mysteries, fighting battles.
"Did she tell you where she was going?" Thomas turned to look at the boy. He held one hand infront if him, pointing towards the spot the girl once stood.
"You've seriously misread our relationship if you think she tells me anything. She hardly talks without you there." The gentleman only hummed in response.
"Well whilst she's gone we can go through some more of these reports. Turns out this Red Virtue is rather exclusive. Which means we're going to have to work our way into there."
"Ah."
"It won't be too hard for you. They'll be able to sense your aura. Dark magic doesn't dissipate quickly. We'll have to dress you the part though. And you can't go alone. Fig would probably be able to get in on charm alone."
He laughed at that. He was right of course. The girl had a golden tongue. She could work her way into anything. And she was beautiful, no man would turn her away.
"Sometimes I swear she must part Veela. She wins men over far to quickly."
He was inclined to agree. He couldn't name one man in school who didn't find her at least partially attractive. Every boy in his dorm had mentioned her at least once. And for a girl whose face had been coverd in scars, it seemed she was still the most beautiful woman in the room.
"Yes but I found she get more attractive when she's mad." He made the comment half in jest. Though he wasn't lying. He had always been attracted to her fire. Thomas laughed.
"I can toast to that brother." Both men raised their glasses. They seemed to agree on a lot of things. They were eerily simular.
