An all too Familiar Story

If a look could kill, Sebastian would have been dragged straight back to were he came from.
"Mr Sallow, we've summoned you here today only under the pressing circumstances that have developed in the past few weeks," She spoke like proffesor Sharp used to. As though the person she was talking too meant nothing. He wondered if they got taught this, in training to become an auror, to speak like you had no feelings. Or perhaps, she simply didn't. She had always been eloquently spoken, if a little brash at times. But this, calculated, practiced tone was something new entirely.
"As I mentioned, cases of dark curses have increased exponentially in the past month, all contained the same symptoms." He noticed the hesitation in her voice as she neared the end of her sentence. A moment passed.
" Physical weakness, shortness of breath, sharp bouts of intense pain, a significant decline in magical ability and a pailing of the skin" Rutherford listed the symptom of the life changing curse as though it was a common cold.
"That is why we need you. You've done more research into this curse than the entire ministry combined." The girl turned to look at him. For a moment the boy swore he could see apprehension, as her blue-gold eyes locked on him, before shooting back to her work.
The room fell into silence once more as thoughts danced through Sebastian's mind. Physical weakness. Anne had been unable to leave Feldcroft for months when he last saw her, she could barely cross the village to reach the well. Shortness of breath. Her voice had been nothing more then a whisper, even as she screamed at him over the body of their uncle. Sharp bouts of intense pain. He rememberd his sister hunched over and whimpering, he rememberd how useless he had felt when it happend, unable to help her, unable to save her. A pailing of the skin. It can't be argued that the Sallow twins were ever anything less then pale, though the light dusting of freckles helped to offset the pairs ghostly appearance. But he did remember how gaunt and frail she had looked, almost as though she was already dead. Sebastian remembered how he used to fight to see her smile, tickling her ribs tended to get her face to brighten up, but only for mere seconds. Only as long as her heart could take before it broke inside her once again.
A decline in magical ability. That made him think. The last time he had seen his sister he had been tossed like a ragdoll by her depulso. He rememberd the fiery inferno that had surrounded him as she cleared away what was left of his attempt to free her of the dark magic in her chest. Her magic then, was just as strong as it always had been. Perhaps it was even stronger. But she was angry, undeniably so. If the fire she cast had shone brightly, the fire in her heart would have blinded the young boy. Thinking further back, he couldn't remember seeing her cast any magic. Not since she had left hogwarts. Perhaps her fire was one last stand against him. Perhaps it came from the same pit of rage that had pushed the teen towards the relic in the first place. He knew his powers were stronger then, perhaps so we're hers.
"We've had 12 cases in the last 3 weeks." She finally spoke up again. "All have been sent to a specialist hospital near Winsor. But no progress has been made by any doctor there." He knew the story. Had the victims gone through what his sister had done. Constant visits to St. Mungos before being told they could do nothing, before being left to die.
Rage bubbled to his throught.
" So what exactly do you need from me?" He caught the barrage of insults before they could tumble from his lips, replacing them instead with a question.
" We want you to help us investigate the crimes, research the curses and hopefully not kill anyone in the process." The question had been meant for her, but the man besides them chose answer instead.
Sebastian let out a cold chuckle once more. He could already tell that this man held himself entirely differently to the woman across from him. Whilst the girl held herself with high standards and even higher dignity, Thomas Rutherford was not below winding the prisoner up. Sebastian could tell just by looking at his perfectly pressed clothing, his hand pushing into the side of the table he leant against and the momentary glances towards his female counterpart, that the man was fragile.
He thought back to his first defense class with the girl. Even then she held herself with such pride. And when she beat him, towering over his body which she had so skillfully pushed aside, he could tell that thus was a woman who wouldn't hold back for no man.
Perhaps that's why the tall, sharp man beside her was acting so tough. It must be hard working besides her every day. She was the type of woman who always took care of things by herself. To be her partner is to be invisible. Everyone loved the girl with the magical eyes. The Saviour would always save the day.
Had life gone differently, Sebastian could imagine himself in the mans place. He always wanted to become an auror. Ironic how the dreams of a child could twist.
"Here," She passed him a pile of documents, bound by a leather strap. "Catch up with the case, Thomas," She turned to the man. "A word. Please."
They both turned to leave the room.
"Don't try to leave, Mr Sallow." The door locked behind them, locking Sebastian out of their conversation.
