Visions and Prophecies
In the fall of 1976, Albus Dumbledore was in his office preparing for the back-to-school speech to start off the new term at Hogwarts. Due to his role as headmaster, he is in charge of many things, including charming the sorting hat before the students arrive.
He was a control freak, and everything had to follow his plan. Including where the students are being sorted too. Now the hat can do this on its own and as powerful as Dumbledore thinks he is, he can only charm the hat so many times before the hat breaks the charm.
The last time the hat broke the charm was in 1971 when Sirius Black and Marlene McKinnon wore the hat. He charmed the hat to put Sirius into Slytherin and Marlene into Ravenclaw. As those are the two houses that their families have been sorted into in the past. But to his surprise, they were sorted into Gryffindor. The blasted hat messed with his plans once again.
To his amusement and shock, they have been a great addition to his house and have flourished well, but also his plans had to change. What the students don’t know is that the hat can give you a glimpse of a vision of the wearer’s future. As when he was sorted into Gryffindor, he add a vision of him being a powerful leader and the best wizard in the world, one that would rival the founders and Merlin.
When Headmaster Dippet retired and gave him the position of Headmaster, he took the power of the visions away from the hat. Instead, the visions will take that vision and put it into a vial with a label of who it is.
Then he can watch the visions on his own time and anytime he pleases. The current professors do not know that this feature of the hat has been taken away or that I have all the current students’ “visions”.
But what they don’t know, doesn’t hurt them. If anyone were to find out, he had the perfect reason. That he is protecting the future of the wizarding world by lowering the chance of another Tom Riddle/Voldemort or Grindelwald and the world accepts it. But no one has noticed or questioned him yet.
So, when the sorting hat broke his charm, he had to watch their visions immediately. What he saw, gave him a shock to last a lifetime. He tries to change this vision every year by adding obstacles or giving in to bad behavior, but nothings work.
Even now, he watches these visions repeatedly, hoping in some way he can change this future or at least add it to his benefit. But after 5 years of trying to change this in his favor, nothing was working, and their futures are still the same.
The visions will take away everything he has worked for and accomplished. All the power and influence he has will be taken away from him. On his desk, are the two vials he is worried about.
Sirius Black’s vial still shows that he will right all the wrongdoings of the past and have each person have a fair trial as Head Auror of the British Ministry and 2nd top Auror for every other Ministry in the world. Also, he will be instrumental in the demise of Voldemort.
All of this is bad for Dumbledore as he knows that Sirius will not be swayed or bought as the current Head of Auror and British Ministry is. But it is not as bad as Marlene’s vision which will destroy him and remove him from all power.
Marlene’s visions show her having a powerful child. That’s it. There is nothing else to it. The vision just shows her holding a baby in what looks to be a conference room rocking the child of light. When he tries to zoom in on the child to see any characteristics, the child is a bright ball of light. She is also saying something to the child, but he can’t hear or understand what she is saying. Even when trying to read her lips, he can’t understand what she is saying. Then the door to the room opens and the vision is done.
At this point, he should just face the facts and give up trying to change the future. Hopefully, in a few years, he will be able to change things.
Jump to August 1979
After a long week of working with the Order every night and running Hogwarts every day, Dumbledore was exhausted and to top things off he had to hire a new Divination professor or get rid of this course. Of course, he wanted to just get rid of it because the content was all obscure and inaccurate at most he decided to still look.
The only applicant that applied for the position drew his eye to maybe being promising. Sybill Trelawney who he realized is related to the great Seer Cassandra Trelawney. This prompted him to at least give her a chance to interview.
The interview was scheduled for this afternoon, in Hogsmeade at the Three Broomsticks. Around noon, he made his way to the village and to the restaurant to wait for Sybill. When she arrived, he greeted her and lead her upstairs to a quieter room to meet. When sitting down, I gestured for her to start to talk about herself.
But 30 minutes into the interview and Dumbledore was done. Sybill has never made a prophecy and is not showing the skills that her great-great-grandmother once had. He was about to tell her thank you for coming when suddenly, she went into a trance and then made her first prophecy.
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies..."
After Sybill said this prophecy and blue ball formed and then landed in her hands. The ball was still in her hands, she said a spell that made the ball disappear and she woke up out of her trance. He knew that the prophecy went to the hall of Prophecy in the Department of Mysteries. To keep knowledge of the prophecy safe, he hired Sybill to keep her safe and out of the hands of Voldemort.
During the prophecy, I noticed an individual with black robes, looking like a death eater. He immediately put up a silence spell, so that the death eater only would hear the first part of the prophecy, not the whole thing.
He advised Sybill to allow him to come to her home to get her things and bring them to Hogwarts where she will be safe as it is the safest place. He held out his arm for her to grab onto to disapparate them to her home.
They arrived and she went in to collect her things, while he waited for her. By the 2-hour mark, she was ready to go, as she had all her belongings which were 4 big bags. They walked outside the house together, when they encountered 5 death eaters coming towards the house.
Dumbledore grabbed Sybill’s hand a disapparated to Hogwarts and he led her to her new classroom and living quarters. When they arrived in Sybill’s quarters, she set down her bags, went to the couch, and sat down.
Like she was in a trance again…..Dumbledore knew she was having another prophecy. He quickly went over to her to listen closely to the prophecy.
“Two souls born in summer……one child of the light and one child of the dark……..will bring balance between good and evil, muggles and wizards/witches, creatures and man……the child of light will destroy the darkness of the past, present, and future…….the child of dark will be her greatest and strongest protector….for together they will be the strongest magical force the world has ever seen…and bring balance, unity, and love to a world that desperately needs it…..”
The same as earlier today, the ball of light appeared and as she was about to say to spell, Dumbledore grabbed it from her, and tried to hide it in his robes until she completed the spell and it vanished from his hands. She woke up and asked if it would be okay to talk later as she was very tired.
Shocked by what has happened, in a daze he returns to his office, sitting at his desk unsure of what to do with this information. What could it mean? Two people more powerful than him!! This is an outrage! To a point where this feeling of being powerless feels familiar. Suddenly he knew when and what made him feel this way before.
Dumbledore ran to his cupboard where all of the student's visions were. He grabbed Marlene McKinnon’s vial and Narcissa Black’s vial. He remembered that both these visions were similar but incomplete. So he poured both vials into his pensive. The water turned to gold and showed a bright light. Once it died down, he put his head into the pensive.
Vision: Narcissa holding a baby walked down a hallway in now what he realized was the Potter manor. She was smiling at the baby in a blue blanket and continued to walk closer to another person who was close to a door that led into a dining room if he remembered correctly. As Narcissa approached the woman, she looked up and he could tell that it was Marlene holding a baby wrapped in a pink blanket. Both women entered the room where there was none other than the Potters, Lucius Malfoy, and Fabian Prewitt.
Fabian smiled and walked to Marlene, ‘There’s my little princess! Did you have a good nap, Mia? I bet you did.’
The child, Mia, looked up at her father as he was talking smiling at him and laughing at the faces he was making.
‘Fabian, as much as I would love to watch you fawn over your daughter, we have to move on to why we are all here,’ said Lucius.
Everyone in the room went to circle the table. James, Lily, and baby Harry; Fabian, Marlene, and baby Mia; Lucius, Narcissa, and baby Draco; Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Andromeda, Ted, and Nyphadora; and finally, Minerva McGonagall.
On the table were three bassinets, in which Mia, Harry, and Draco were set down inside with their names hanging on the front of the small bed. Minerva said, ‘We are gathered here today to make a promise to protect these three no matter the cost. It will be our duty to guide, raise, and protect them as they grow. Making sure the three connect, support, and help one another. We are in this protection circle to give them our word and promise. Please grab hands and repeat after me, “Promittimus te adiuvare, amare, protegere in omnibus diebus tuis”.
The adults all said the spell three times, and while they said the spell there was a golden light coming out of the bassinets. When the spell was over, and the light was gone. Dumbledore paused the vision and looked closer at the babies. He looked them over to see if there were any changes until he saw it.
On each of the babies’ hips, there was a sun, moon, and star all in a circle. The mark looked like a birthmark, and it was very light that a normal person would be able to tell unless they looked closely at it.
He unpaused the vision and then he woke up in his office. He ran fast to his desk and wrote down everything he could remember.
Once he finished, he grabbed his journal and started making a new plan so that none of what he saw or heard could happen. He was going to choose which prophecy was going to come true and it was one where he stayed in power.
He knew he was in for a long night, for he knew tomorrow, everything was going to change.
