Chapter 1

'Okay, now here's your lunch, there's a Dollar in there to buy some milk, you can ask an older kid how to do that,'

"Mam I'll be alright-"

"I've wrote down your phone number for you, just in case you forget! Make sure you keep it in your pocket!"

"I'll be fine, just trust me on this, okay?" Remus said softly, brushing his mothers hands off his shoulders and giving her a kiss on the cheek before slinging his bag over his shoulder and giving a small wave goodbye before crossing the street and walking the few minutes to his new school.

Remus is sixteen and he knows it isn't normal for his mother to get so worked up before his first day of school, but he's been homeschooled all of his life. His father was a big political figure in Wales and Remus was never sent to school, as he spent most of his childhood sick and his mother tutored him in everything he needed. They'd moved to Chicago after his Dad got offered a position at the local university and now he is going to a real school for the first time.

The entrance was crowded and he was bumped into several times, though most seemed to move out of his way, one of the only positives of his towering height. It didn't take long for him to find his room and he immediately slinked to the back and tried to find a seat near the far corner. He went to put his bag down by one of the desks but he was interrupted by a smooth voice.

"You don't want to sit there, Thats where Mulcibers girlfriend is going to sit, and they are practically nausea inducing," the mysterious voice informed, and Remus looked up to a pair of icy grey eyes staring him down. The boy, with jet black curls and a fair complexion, shared a look of humour with the blonde and brunette, the two equally attractive boys sat around him, before returning to the book he was sketching in with a pencil.

"Thanks.." Remus started uncertainly, picking up his worn out bag and moving to the next desk over before, yet again, being stopped by a warm, rough voice, this time the blonde boy.

'You don't want to sit there either," he points to the teen sat at the desk in front before continuing, "His hair is so greasy you'll probably slip over if you even get near him," and him and the other boy the one who hasn't yet spoken, snicker. "You should sit with us," he says with a small smirk and Remus gave him a small smile and sat down at the desk next to them.

"I"m Barty and this is Evan and Regulus" the brunette, Barty, informs as he points to the others, first the blonde, Evan, and then the noirette, Regulus, each giving a small wave in turn.

"I'm Remus" he finally says after picking up on the three staring at him expectantly. "Do any of you know where room G14 is? It's where I'm supposed to be next class."

Regulus takes the timetable out of his hands and looks it over "'Health Tuesday/thursday, room G14'", he reads out and hands it back. " Yeah we know where that is. It's in the back building, we'll take you there", he assures.

"What back building-" Barty starts before being cut off by sharp glare from Regulus and a kick under the table from Evan. "Ohh, yeah, the back building." he says slowly and Evan sighs but gives Remus a reassuring smile.

"Thanks" , Remus breathes out, grateful that he isn't going to spend his first day alone and lost.

After homeroom ends Barty and Evan grab hold of Remus and pull him through the bustling hall, occasionally shouting things out such as "New meat coming through!", earning them multitudes of glares from peeved students. Regulus strolls ahead and rolls his eyes and his friends childish tendancies.

Regulus had known Barty and Evan for practically his whole life and was grateful for them, though they were seldom not embarrassing. They were his brothers when his left him and they were the only people he could trust, he couldn't ask for anything more. All he really wanted was for them finally realise how utterly and hopelessly in love they are with one another, but its proving to be a difficult task.

He was pulled out of his thoughts when they got outside and the cool breeze hit him and he decided to slow down and listen to whatever nonsense Barty was talking now.

"Youre taking twelfth grade English Lit?! Why? I can barely pass this years class." Barty marvelled.

"I like reading," Remus shrugged "it's calming"

"Damn this kid is smart!" He exclaims, hitting Evan softly on the arm, as if to prove his point and Evans yes widen and his face becomes a deep crimson. Regulus hides his laugh in a cough and Remus' eyes shift between Barty and Evan before be sends a questioning look to Regulus, who responds with a smile shake of the head and a look telling Remus he'll explain later. The trio settle near a tree outside, overlooking a gym class, while Remus stands, confused.

"Where's the back building?" He asks whilst Evan lets out a soft laugh.

"It burned down in 1987." Regulus simply states, leaning against the tree with his legs crossed and a smirk playing on his face.

"Won't we get in trouble-" Remus starts but he cuts himself off. His only been to one class today and its already torture, so skipping one or two wouldn't hurt, would it? "Fuck it." he sighs, before throwing his bag off his shoulder and onto the grass before sitting down and joining them.

"Why didn't they keep homeschooling you? You seem smart enough?" Evans questions before copying Regulus and leaning against the trunk of the large tree.

"They wanted me to get socialised or something? They think I don't have enough friends or whatever." It was true in a sense, but that wasn't the only reason. His parents had wanted him to go the proper school since his mother had gotten sick and couldn't keep up his studies. He wasn't going to tell people that though, he didn't want to be more of an outcast than he already was.

Evan went to respond but he was interrupted by a small gasp from Barty. "In the name of all that is holy, will you look at James potter's gym clothes?!"

Regulus gave another one of his signature eye rolls and looked up from the sketchbook that he had propped up on his lap and was drawing in with a pencil. "Of course all the Marauders are in the same gym class."

"Who are the Marauders?"
