Remus Lupin
James Potter was sitting in the Gryffindor common room when he suddenly felt a wave of anxiety wash over him. His heart started racing, his hands began to shake, and he felt like he was about to lose control.
Remus Lupin, who was sitting next to him, noticed the change in James' behaviour immediately. He placed a comforting hand on James' shoulder and said in a soothing voice, "James, you're safe. You're in the common room right now; we were just studying for our History of Magic test,"
James tried to take deep breaths, but his breathing only got faster and more shallow. He started to feel lightheaded, and his palms became sweaty. He couldn't focus on anything except his racing thoughts.
"I can't do this," James said, his voice shaking. "What if I pass out? What if I die? What if everyone thinks I'm weak?"
Remus shook his head gently. "You're not weak, James," he replied. "You're having a panic attack. It's a normal reaction to stress, and it doesn't mean you're going to die. You're safe here, and I'm going to help you through this."
He placed his hand on James' chest and encouraged him to take slow, deep breaths. "In and out," he said. "That's it. You're doing great."
Remus could see that James was struggling to stay present in the moment, "James, I want you to focus on your surroundings," he said. "Look around the room and tell me five things you can see."
James looked around the common room and saw the fireplace, the armchair, the bookshelf, the rug, and the painting on the wall. "Good," Remus said. "Now, tell me four things you can feel."
James felt the cushion on the sofa, the warmth of the fire, the texture of his clothes, and the hardness of the floor beneath his feet. "Excellent," Remus said. "Now, tell me three things you can hear."
James listened carefully and heard the crackling of the fire, the chatter of the students around him, and the sound of the wind blowing outside. "Perfect," Remus said. "Now, tell me two things you can smell."
James took a deep breath and smelled the aroma of the fire and the faint scent of the flowers on the windowsill. "Great job," Remus said. "Finally, tell me one thing you can taste."
James licked his lips and tasted the sweetness of the candy he had eaten earlier. "Well done," Remus said. "You did it."
James looked at Remus, feeling grateful for his friend's help. "Thank you," he said. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
Remus smiled warmly. "You don't have to do anything alone," he replied. "We're a team, remember? And we'll get through this together."
