slinkies - golden trio
It was no surprise that when the Weasley family got introduced to none other than Mr. Harry Potter himself, that they also got introduced to a lot more muggle objects.
It was a warm day in April and the 'golden trio' as people like to say, were on their way to Hogsmede. The air was filled with the sweet sent of pollen as the three walked down the hills. Harry and Ron were engaging in a conversation about Quidditch whilst Hermione put her opinion in here and there.
The peaceful atmosphere was soon ruined by two loud gingers. It started with faint yelling coming from the top of the hill, but soon gradually got louder and louder until the two fourth years fell to the floor, the ones responsible for their fall going with them.
The twins laughter filled the air as their younger brother grumbled about being 'irresponsible twats' Harry stayed silent, secretly enjoying the playful nature of his favourite family's twins.
"Hey! Can we tag along with you guys?" Fred asked, brushing off the back of his robes as he helped his twin up.
"We promise we wont be any trouble" George smiled as sweetly as he could, nudging his brother to do the same.
"No" "Yes" "Maybe"
The twins got three answers at the same time, ignoring the disapproval of Ron, they walked down to Hogsmede together. All not knowing the chaos that's about to endure.
------------------------
This is where we find ourselves looking upon the two lanky twins at the very top floor of Hogwarts, both faces as red as their hair as they try and catch their breath.
In both their hands they hold a circular spring-like object, Georges was coloured bright blue whilst Fred's was a clean shade of red. The twins smiled at each other as they gipped the object in their hands. Placing both of them at the top of the stairs right at the very edge, they pushed.
The spring-like objects were called slinkies and they were selling them in Honey dukes, 'To give the muggleborn's a feeling of home' was explained. As soon as harry showed them how it worked they immediately bought some, excited to try out their new toys.
After a few tries and the slinkies ending up at the bottom of the short staircase pushed against the wall, the twins had an idea.
So there they sat at the top of the stairs once again, slinkies in hand, waiting for the perfect moment. As the two felt the stairs move they pushed. They watched as the slinkies raced down the moving stairs, the twins following close behind, and as the toys got close to the end the stairs locked in place continuing the race between the two.
----------------------
Through the next two weeks that's all the twins did in their spare time. They calculated the mass and the speed and all the unimportant science things. They fully predicted the way and the time that the stairs were going to move in, continuing the race of the red and blue slinkie all the way to the bottom of the very large and seemingly unpredictable staircase.
As soon as they found out this knowledge they stared to distribute it between their house mates, first starting with the golden trio and soon explaining it to everyone in a very detailed paper slide, in one of the house meetings. Those Gryffindor's that were friends with other houses spread the word, and the people inside the houses spread the word there. Even the Slytherin's got the gossip from a first year who's friends with a Hufflepuff.
For that week: suddenly no one was late to their classes and it was very rare that a student got lost in the labyrinth that was the stairs, usually a first year that hadn't remembered the layout. Snape was very upset that he couldn't tell his students off for arriving late, because they were all seated when he made his way into the classroom. McGonagall was very impressed with her students work and gave them both 20 points for their hardship.
For that week everything was brilliant and students stayed on top of their workload.
Did I say just for that week?...yeah
-------------------------------------
Friday morning George woke with a start, he got got of bed and woke his brother, who also smiled as soon as he saw the date. It was time.
They've done the planning, the distribution, the mass x speed, and more importantly they've told everyone.
Come on this is George and Fred we ae talking about here, do you really think that the two best pranksters of the decade would want to just get people to their classes?
Oh no no no, they have a much more sinister plan awaiting.
The first lesson, everyone arrived on time. The twins sat at the back, leaning over their text books, pretending that they were writing down what Flitwick wrote on the board but in fact, they were writing letters, notes, messages. All to spread around school in the first three hours. They slipped them into pockets, into bags or just secretly gave them to people in empty corridors, telling them to spread the word.
The twins waited until the end of the day, until the classes were over and the word had evenly spread. As the final bell rang the twins darted out of the classroom, and up the very very long flight of stairs. Excited for the weekend and the day of Christ to come.
They waited, On the Sunday, for all the students to come. all the messengers all the receivers, everyone. and they came, all with slinkies in hand.
---------------------
"Ready?"
"Set?"
the students waited for the signal, as they felt the stairs start to move George yelled:
"GO!"
It was a sight to see, hundreds of colourful slinkies made their way down the moving staircases, many tripped and stopped, as the people who owned them booed and cheered. as others just watched their own. groaning when another bumped into them an stopped their streak.
The teachers came through the corridors to see what the large commotion was about. To say the least they were not expecting a large group of students, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff alike, all racing down the stairs behind a mountain of colourful springs.
The rustling of the swarm of springs echoed through the halls of Hogwarts, and the students who didn't get the word or didn't bother came out of the common room to watch the show, some cheering on friends, some booing on rivals, but all in all it was a good day.
The house elves refer to the dreaded slinky Sunday for centuries.
