As the day of departure approached, James and Regulus were filled with mixed emotions. They were excited for Harry to start his magical education at Hogwarts, but they were also sad to see him go. They knew they had to make the most of the time they had left before Harry boarded the Hogwarts Express.
On the day of departure, they arrived early at King's Cross Station with Harry. James and Regulus showed Harry how to walk through the wall between platforms 9 and 10 to get to platform 9 3/4. Harry was amazed as he walked through the seemingly solid barrier and emerged on the other side.
As they waited for the Hogwarts Express, Harry struck up a conversation with a boy named Draco Malfoy. They hit it off right away, much to James and Regulus's delight. It was a relief to see that Harry had made a friend so quickly.
As the train pulled away from the station, James had tears in his eyes. Regulus had to keep himself from crying as well. They knew that Harry was embarking on a new journey, one that they wouldn't be able to join him on.
A few days before the train left, they had gone to Diagon Alley together to get all of Harry's school supplies. They watched in amazement as Harry blew up Ollivander's wand shop. It reminded them of their own first year at Hogwarts and the mischief they got up to.
The hours leading up to their departure for King's Cross were nerve-wracking for Regulus. He couldn't stop himself from asking Harry every 30 minutes or so if he had everything he needed. James had to gently remind him that Harry was fully prepared and that they had double-checked his supplies multiple times.
As they watched the train disappear into the distance, James and Regulus couldn't help but feel a sense of emptiness. They missed Harry already, but they were comforted by the fact that he was embarking on an incredible adventure that would shape him into the wizard he was meant to be.
