It had been five months since Gideon had written their first letter to their parents explaining how they felt. He still wasn't sure about a lot of things, but the last five months had been the happiest of his life so far. Bill and Charlie had taken to the news with ease, even though Gideon could only tell them through letter. Percy's letter back had been very formal, but he seemed as supportive as he could be as well. It had taken a second to get the concept through to Fred and George, but they had clapped him on the back and promised a 'special surprise' in his honour. The surprise ended up being an explosion of red and yellow fireworks across the Quidditch pitch that spelled out 'GIDEON'. Ron had been thrown by the whole thing, but that was more out of confusion than spite. He became ecstatic once he realised that he was no longer the youngest son. The only ones Gideon was worried about was his parents. He had received a number of letters back asking for more details and refuting the possibility that he could be a boy. Honestly, every letter had been written in his mother's handwriting so he had no idea what his dad was really thinking about the whole thing. The worst part was that his mum kept going back and forth in the letters on what she thought and believed, so he had no idea what it was gonna be like once he got back home.

His mum cried when she saw him.

Honestly, it wasn't exactly the reaction that he had been hoping for. He had thought that the gender-drama would wait a bit, considering the much more recent Battle at the Ministry-drama. But no, she had burst into tears and then ran back into the house upon seeing him. The twins and Ron both turned to look at him with a look that practically screamed 'good luck' and then his dad came up and pulled him into a hug and offered an awkward smile. It was easily the weirdest homecoming Gideon had gotten since starting Hogwarts four years ago.

He found himself in the kitchen, his mum fussing over tea or something. Anything to avoid looking at him, he wagered.

"Mum?"

She lurched to the side, glancing at him with a brief and forced smile before looking away. "Yes, dear?"

"You know I'm still your kid, right?"

She stopped moving at that.

"Like I know I'm not- I'm not your daughter anymore but I'm still your kid. Your son. And I know that you were really happy when I was born because you wanted a girl and I'm sorry that I took that away from you but I can't pretend that I'm something I'm not anymore-"

His mum turned to face him and suddenly pulled him into a tight hug, so tight that for a moment he thought he'd pass out.

"Of course you're still mine, baby." He could hear the tears in her voice. "I love you. Nothing will ever take that away." She pulled back just slightly to look at him fiercely. "And don't you dare apologise for being yourself! Not to me or to anyone else!"

"Really?" He realised he was crying too when his mum began wiping them away.

"Really."

How could he ever think otherwise? This was Molly Weasley. She loved fiercely and unapologetically. She's who he learned it from.

The two of them were sat together drinking tea not five minutes later when Gideon brought it up.

"Do you remember what I told you I changed my name to?" He didn't wait for an answer. "Gideon Percival Weasley."

His mum looked at him, her eyes misty. "I'm sure Fred and George put up quite a fuss about that."

He laughed. "It only made sense. Ron's middle name is in honour of Bill and I couldn't exactly pick one twin over the other. Besides, Percy deserves it. He was really there for me when he was at Hogwarts."

He looked down at his tea. "That wasn't exactly what I was getting at though. I didn't just pick Gideon out of the blue... I did some research on our family." Now he turned to look at his mum, but she wouldn't meet his eyes. "You had two brothers called Fabian and Gideon. Twins, like Fred and George." She still wasn't looking at him. "They died in the first war, fighting against You-Know-Who. You never told us about them.."

She finally looked at him, tears returned anew. "None of you ever met them. I was.. young.. when they died."

Gideon took her hand. "Well, that's why I picked this name. For them. They're our family mum, and they deserve to be honoured and remembered."

His mum smiled sadly at him, then wordlessly pulled him into another tight hug.

Later, he returned to his room to find his dad sat waiting for him with a broom in his hand.

"I know I'm not very up to date with all of these things but-" He handed him the broom and Gideon gawked at seeing it was a Cleansweep Seven. It was nowhere near the most expensive broomstick, but it was a very good one given their family's money. At the start of the school year, Ron had been given a Cleansweep Eleven and that was for making Prefect.

"What's this for?" Gideon was staring at the broom in awe, turning it in his hands slowly.

"For those 'secret flying sessions' you do at night." He winked. "You'll make the Quidditch team in no time with this thing."

Gideon laughed and pulled his dad in for a hug. It wasn't lost on him what this meant. This was his dad's way of saying 'I accept you'. Little Ginerva Weasley had to sneak out to fly because it was too 'boyish', but Gideon Weasley didn't have to hide anymore. He knew who he was now, and so did his family.

They loved him all the same.
