Too Late

Draco spent three days in the infirmary. He spent most of the time either finishing up on class work or sleeping. Despite how long he slept it was like he could never get enough rest. On the last day after signing goodbye to Madam Promfrey he made his way towards the eighth year dorms.

Walking past a hall closet. He jumped as the door opened and Theo grabbed his hand and pulled him inside.

Locking the door with his wand Theo pressed Draco against the wall. His lips smashed against Draco’s, his tongue entering Draco’s mouth. He pressed against him gripping at his cloak trying to rip it off.

No!

Draco shoved Theo, pressing his hands to his chest and shoving him back.

“What the hell?” Theo’s dark eyes glared at Draco furiously.

Draco shook his head his blonde hair flipping wildly. No, he wasn’t going to do this anymore.

“What’s wrong with you” demanded Theo. “I know you need me. I know this is what you want.” He grabbed Draco’s wrist too tightly as Draco struggled to pull away.

Pulling out his wand he aimed it at Theo sparks flew from his wand dangerously and Theo’s eyes widened surprised.

No!!!

Draco shook his head his voice trapped in his throat. He wasn’t going to do this anymore. Shoving Theo aside he stepped out into the empty hallway.

“Draco!” Theo called out after him as he walked away. “Draco, I’m sorry!” Draco turned around to look at Theo. His jaw was clentched and stood rigid his dark eyes softening from his usual angry glare.

“Look I’m sorry I haven’t always treated you right. I heard you were in the infermary and I was worried. There’s a lot of stuff I have to tell you.”

Draco stood frozen as Theo stepped forward. Why was he acting like this? After so long treating Draco like shit. Like some whore he could fuck and leave once he’d gotten what he wanted.

“Theo!” Lavenders voice rang out happily as she jumped on Theo’s back. She pressed a kiss to Theo’s lips not noticing the way his body stiffened. Draco watched the display feeling like he was being punched in the stomach.

That was all he ever wanted. Someone to hold his hand in public. Who wouldn’t be afraid to kiss him. Watching Theo do that with someone else was like torture.

“Draco are you alright?” Lavender flashed him a smile and Draco nodded his response. Waving goodbye he turned away and made his way towards the dorms.

***

“Malfoy” Draco walked into the eighth year common room and Potter stood up from a couch the moment he walked in.

Great what now? Thought Draco rolling his eyes.

“Hey, I heard about what happened. Hagrid told me he found you in the forbidden Forrest.” Draco kept his face frozen waiting for inevitable punchline that was sure to come. “I know we’ve never gotten on. But I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”

Draco raised a dubious eyebrow. Pulling his trusty notepad from his pocket he jotted down his response.

Potter. You are eight years too late to care about how I’m doing. Just leave me alone.

He turned away walking towards the bedrooms only for Potter to yell out after him.

“Draco, I’m sorry about sixth year. About hurting you. I didn’t know what that spell was.” Draco froze in place.

Why was Potter doing this? He had never showed any interest in Draco’s well being before so why start now. Draco would always remember sting of embarrassment on their first night at Hogwarts. When he’d extended his hand in friendship offering to help him chose better friends than the weasel only for Potter to snap “‘I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks.”

No, it was too late. Too late for him and Theo. Too late for friendship with Potter. Too late for his father. Giving Potter one last look he wondered what might have been.

They both loved quidich. They both had ties to dark magic against their wills. They both came from prominent family’s. Maybe if Draco had…

Pushing the thought away Draco walked to the dorms and closed the door behind him.
