Hufflepuff Hypocrisy
Lirum awoke the morning of Halloween, and for the first time they dreaded the idea they where meant to study with Percy. Still being unsure of how to tell him what really happened or if they even should. Guilt from getting him in trouble mixed with that of knowing Luna had done it on purpose for them was eating them alive.
Lirum had made up their mind that today they would really have a chat with Cedric about everything. He was a good friend, a bit dim sometimes but understanding he would know what to do. As they stood from their bed Lirum heard a peck on their window. When they turned they saw it was Grayson with a letter undoubtedly from Tonks.
Dear Guin,
Auror training is going well. It’s far more paperwork than I would have thought, but I guess it makes sense. Keeping records of every interaction, and piece of information regarding dark wizards. Just in case something were to happen. Still I wanted to get out there and fight dark wizards but madam bones is very strict about the proper way to do things. I guess that is to be expected of the head of magical law enforcement though. It’s not as though she’s unfair if anything she is fairness embodied through and through.
But enough about me, and the ministry. How’s school going? Not out crying by the lake again are we? How’s your little first year? Did she end up”taking care of it”? If so, how's Mr lanky, red, and dorky. Remember you’ve got twin trouble waiting to get a piece of you decided he’s not worth it!
P.s. Glad you're safe from teachers this year!
Your sibling in secrets,
Dora
Dear Dora,
Much to my dismay Luna has in fact tried to “remove the obstacle” as she put it. Penelope went and called her Loony Lovegood in front of the whole school! I was ready to hex her, and about to do it when Luna busted out into tears! She hugged me sobbing and stopping me from being able to do much of anything. Percy ended up standing up for her instead and losing house points for both of them. Do you want to know what Penelope called me after? A slag! In front of the whole school! That sket calling me a Slag! As if the paintings around the charms classroom haven’t told of her exploits! Unlike her I’ve never spent my night shuffling awkwardly about a broom closet! You should have seen Percy’s face when she did. It was honestly worth it. After all that I found out Luna was fake crying to get me and Percy angry at Penelope in her bizarre attempt to break them up. Can you believe that the wild day I had don’t even get me started on what happened in care of magical creatures after.
But I digress, I plan to have a conversation with Ced for some advice about what to do with Luna given the fact her attempt to break them up is what started all of this. I tried to before but we were caught by Flitwick. We were pulled into his office and I swear that man laced the sweets in his desk with some sort of truth potion. The second I tried one I couldn’t stop, but guess I did start by shouting at him about house stereotypes before I ate a sweet so maybe not.
P.s. I have to meet with Percy after my classes today so wish me luck.
Your secret sibling,
Guin
Lirum gave the letter to Grayson immediately letting him fly straight back out of their window knowing after the rest of the days events they would most likely need a whole new letter to rant about whatever would happen. They left their dorms and made their way to the common room.As they looked around they noticed the lack of a familiar scraggly young blind. Luna was nowhere to be seen. Lirum hummed wondering where she could be off to and grabbed a piece of fruit from the common room table. Quickly they made their way towards the herbology greenhouses where they would finally be able to talk to their Hufflepuff bimbo.
As they approached the greenhouses they saw groups of students passing by chatting lively, excited about the upcoming feast. As they entered they found their place next to the brunet boy in his signature Hufflepuff robes, a welcoming smile on his face.
“Don’t you look like a breath of fresh air today!” He greeted cheerfully as usual.
“Come in Ced, you know I’m not really a morning person. Our herbology class is scheduled so early I can’t even make it to the hall for breakfast.” Lirum replied, taking a bite of the apple they’d snagged from their common room.
“Hey, I wanted to ask you something. You don’t think that house head of yours puts truth potion in those sweets, do you? What’s it called, veritaserum or whatever? I felt words kept pouring out of me when people asked things after. I admitted to not paying attention in the next class and that I was writing a letter to Cho.” Cedric whispered as professor sprout began her lesson.
“Today we will be having our lesson on bubotuber. How to identify it and it’s uses.” The short barrel chested woman said as she walked around the green house.
“Honestly, I’d believe it. He was far to insistent on me taking some. I mean he seems to mean well but that still feels like their was something off you know. I don’t think the school would allow him to use truth potions on students anyway. It sounds like an invasion of privacy, does it not?” Lirum asked, looking up at the brunet.
“Honestly I don’t think Dumbledore keeps as good of an eye on the teachers as we give him credit for. I mean you’ve seen the punishments Snape gives out. I swear I saw him hit a second year with a book the other day.” Cedric shrugged.
“I mean after last year It wouldn’t shock me nearly as much. But that’s not important either way. I really wanted to talk to you about something else, I need some advice.” Lirum said as they prodded the bubotuber in front of them not wanting to risk getting spattered with puss.
“You? Need advice from me? You’re the smart one here.” He joked with a playful smirk.
“I’m book smart not people smart you nit. It’s a friendship problem.” Lirum replied snarky.
“Well I’m glad to offer you my services. I think you should give up on Percy and give George a chance. He’s the one who treats you the best.” Cedric joked smile growing even wider, earning himself an elbow to his ribs.
“I said friendship not relationship, and even if I was looking for relationship advice you would be the last one I’d call. Mr. You should try swimming naked with me.” Lirum teased.
“Hey-“ Cedric started but got cut off by a sigh from Lirum.
“Luna tried to break Percy and Penelope up because she wants us to get together. Full scene crying and all.” Lirum said giving up on prodding at the bubotuber in front of them.
“That must have been the commotion the other day, and why we got pulled into Flitwick’s office. Did it work?” Cedric asked quietly.
“I don’t know me and Percy haven’t talked yet we’re supposed to today after class our normal study session but I don’t know what to say. When I’ve seen Penelope she’s just huffed and walked in the opposite direction, even if that means out of the common room.” The ravenclaw sighed unsure of how to move forward.
“I mean I understand that you might not like how it happened, but this could be your chance. I mean you’ve been crushing on him for a year now.” He said hushed trying not to let anyone hear.
“But she made a huge scene and got both of them in trouble so many house points and detention for both of them. Just because she wanted us to have a chance to go out. That’s crazy manipulative!” Lirum whispered harshly under their breath. “What about Percy and Penny's feelings? Do they not matter?”
“I mean they do and I get why your upset but are you really gonna waste this opportunity?” Cedric asked, attempting to collect the puss from the bubotuber in front of him.
“And if it were you and Cho she threw the fit in front of because she thought we should be together instead would you still feel that way?” Lirum asked impatiently.
“Well no we don’t like each other and that wouldn’t be fair to any of us.” Cedric answered.
“My point exactly! We don’t know how he feels, and it’s not Penelope’s fault I might have feelings for him!” Lirum huffed, running a hand through their curls.
“Might? I’m pretty clueless about love and it’s still pretty obvious to me. You both have a thing for each other. Plus she called you a slag and Luna loony without hesitation. Luna did you all a service really.” Cedric replied casually as if he wasn’t being an utter hypocrite.
“So let me get this straight. It’s ok for Luna to pull the stunt she did if it’s to break up Penelope and Percy because she thinks I like him, but it would be wrong if she did it to you.” Lirum started crossing their arms looking at their Hufflepuff friend.
“First off, you do like him. Second off you don’t like me. That’s why it’s different.” The Hufflepuff boy corrected.
“So if I liked you, but you liked Cho bit Luna it pulled the same stunt it would be ok.” Lirum argued.
“No, because it wouldn’t happen. Cho would never call anyone a slag or a loon for that matter.” Cedric answered blind to the hypocrisy of the situation.
“And if she did?” They asked.
“Then we’d probably break up, and you’d be there for me because you’re a good friend and maybe we’d fall for each other. In some other life where they would happen.” Cedric sighed. “But in this world I’m straight and into a girl that’s a year younger than us, and I keep saying stupid things that get me in trouble. Things that get me bullied relentlessly by my witty snarky little ravenclaw friend. Who is desperately in love with the one boy in school who’s too preoccupied to realize. As he stares at them all throughout every meal. Instead of his girlfriend, I might add. She who very adamantly hates my little ravenclaw friend because her boyfriend is just as desperately in love with said friend. But neither of them will say or do anything about it because they're mostly dating because they want to keep up some odd public appearance of having this perfect life plan. While they all pine secretly for other people that don’t fit that perfect description.”
“That-that is utter rubbish! None of that is true in the slightest!” Lirum snapped angrily at this make believe life he had painted.
“And yet you and Dora say I’m the dense one.” He scoffed as herbology ended. “Better get going now, don't want to be late for your date.”
“It is not a date, we're just studying like normal. He’s my tutor, he helps because Penelope asked him to.” The ravenclaw reminded him.
“Penelope asked him to help you with divination. A class that you passed and aren’t even in this year. All those letters over the summer and meeting up for your school shopping weren’t something she asked for. If you feel that bad about it tell him what happened. After that it’s up to him how he feels.” Cedric said as he made his way out of the greenhouse leaving Lirum to sit with his words. Lirum packed up their things into their school bag frustrated knowing all they could do was wait to meet Percy in the library
