Troublesome
“No!…No I swear it’s not a potion I can just do this!” Lirum almost yelled. And focused on the thought of their appearance in an attempt to turn back. Too shaken to transform back easily.
“What is your name. First and last, as well as your house and year” Percy was stern looking at the seemingly not Fred frantically trying to turn back into themselves.
“Their name Is Guindelirum Olivander. But they just go by Lirum” the real Fred spoke stealing Percy’s attention back from the Metamorphmagus.
Followed by George who stepped quickly between Percy and Lirum “They’re a Ravenclaw and, in our year as well ” once the attention was off of them it was much easier for Lirum to transform back into themselves.
Lirum stood shocked by the twins. They realized how much more observant and perceptive the twins must be then anyone gave them credit for. They noticed things that Lirum hadn’t even noticed about them self before. From the way their hair changed when they where uncomfortable or right now seeing they struggled to use their abilities as a Metamorphmagus under pressure. Even seeing how uncomfortable the idea of disappointing professor Flitwick was. Even their preference towards McGonagall for not pushing students past their limits.
And then it dawned on them. Trying to recall a single time either of the two had used their name. Lirum had believed up until that moment only their teachers knew their name. Even then no one used their full name wether they use mr, ms, or mx it’s always just Ollivander. And on the rare occasion some one asked they just said Lirum. Brought back to reality by the sound of the angry prefect.
“You truly expect me to believe the two of you convinced a Ravenclaw to sneak around after lights out and, help you with your ridiculous pranks” Percy turned back to Lirum ”now tell me the truth and don’t bother lying to me. If your truly a Metamorphmagus it will not exactly be hard to find your identity” Lirum took a step forward no longer behind the duo.
“What Fred and George said was true. I am a third year Ravenclaw and my name is really Guindelirum but no one calls me that except my grandfather… Since it’s quite long you know.…Garrick Ollivander the wand maker is my grandfather…Ravenclaw sort of runs in our blood” Lirum stood mortified as they realized they have found themself in the worst possible situation that could have come from sneaking out tonight. Being caught by not only the person they disguised themselves as but also their twin brother, and their prefect older brother.
“No there is simply no way. No Ravenclaw would be stupid enough to sneak around after lights out, and surely not with two people notorious for being troublesome.” Appearing even angrier before clearly not listening to a word spoken by any of his juniors.
“So tell me is this the cunning lies of a Slytherin pinning the blame on another house? The misplaced loyalty of a Hufflepuff believing my brothers will save you? If you where a Gryffindor I would recognize you.” He let out a huff “To my knowledge there are only two Metamorphmagi at Hogwarts. A Bright young Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff three years my senior ” Of course the first person to see through the guise of the perfect Ravenclaw would be in a moment Lirum needed to be seen as one.
Being caught by Snape would have been easy he’s always angry. Detention, a few snide remarks, and a walk back to the common room. McGonagall meant house points some speech about how Ravenclaws are supposed to think before acting, and an escort to the common room where Lirum would almost have to run to keep up with her pace, Even Flitwicks disappointment would be more bearable.
“I’m telling you I am a Ravenclaw, and wasn’t sneaking out to help the twins…” Lirum pleaded knowing there was no hope for their case. They had been caught not only red handed but even worse in the red heads hands.
“Then tell me what where you doing wandering the castle at night” Percy demanded becoming more agitated by the second.
“I was on my way to the library-“ they started
“The library! After lights out? That is the most ridiculous excuse I have ever heard” Percy seethed “Foolhardy enough to argue with a prefect! as to why they shouldn’t be in trouble for disregarding the rules! Traipsing around the castle in the middle of the night! When classes start just after sunrise! If you are truly a Ravenclaw the sorting hat clearly is capable of making mistakes as two are in this room. 5 points away from each of you for sneaking around after lights out and another 5 from Ravenclaw for attempting to pin their misdeeds on Gryffindor! I will be hearing no more of this.” Percy turned to leave but not before making sure his brothers where both behind him
“We will be escorting Mr.Ollivander back to the Ravenclaw tower and, then the you two will be coming back to the Gryffindor dormitory’s with me. I will be having a conversation with your prefects in the morning Mr. Ollivander about both your actions and behavior tonight.” They followed Percy back to the dormitories in silence having accepted the fact this was the consequence of their own actions. Even the twins kept quiet. After arriving at the large door with A bronze eagle knocker they quickly answered the riddle and, returned to their bed petrified remembering the events of the night that went wrong at every turn.
No new answers to help with Divination. No sleep and the dread of knowing the whole school will now know the truth. Lirum is no perfect Ravenclaw as the twins put it. Their barely a Ravenclaw at all. Thinking back to the look on the Gryffindor prefects face “He was right the hat made a mistake” Lirum said tossing and turning in bed.
Soon it was sunrise and everyone began pouring into the great hall for breakfast. Lirum who had not slept a single second of the night took their normal seat. They grabbed a light breakfast of fruit and fresh bread to calm themselves and, maybe give them a little energy for the rest of their day. Until they heard someone clear their voice in front of them. They looked up to see none other than Penelope Clearwater one of their houses fifth year prefects. Lirum held a breath knowing this was the moment they feared all night.
“Ms. Ollivander would you like to explain your whereabouts last night” Penelope wore a sour look on her face.
“I was having trouble sleeping and thought a good book would help me. You know me. Ravenclaw to the core” Lirum attempted to appear confident.
“After lights out! You’re a Ravenclaw smart enough to know better. You were no Hatstall! you know what it means to be a Ravenclaw! You have been an exemplary show of how a Ravenclaw should act at every turn since your first day at Hogwarts. Such foolish behavior could be expected if a Gryffindor but not us. Your lucky it was Percy and it a professor! Why? Why where you going to the library in the middle of the night? There are books in the common room so don’t tell me you just wanted something to read.” Penelope snapped
“I’m sorry all I could think about was that I don’t understand divination, I was looking for more information to help me understand the class.” Lirum admitted shamefully
“If you has asked do you think we couldn’t have helped you! You’re in a room full of the smartest students in the castle! But you can’t ask? You are smarter then this. Instead you risk your reputation, detention, as well as the reputation of the whole house lose house points for Ravenclaw in the process. Even worse omit the involvement of two of the most notorious troublemakers in the whole school-” Penelope ranted as other students slowly started to leave the room.
“I swear truly it had nothing to do with-“ Lirum was cut off before they could finish
“Percy told me he found you with his brothers. And from what he overheard it seems you where out to get them in trouble. Cunning plans of revenge are for Slytherins Ollivander! I don’t know nor care what they did to get on your bad side but you will not drag this houses reputation down with you. A Ravenclaw should be wise enough to see when there being played the fool!” That phrase struck a chord inside of Lirum two years of trying their hardest to fit the role given to them. Remembering the day they where sorted.
Standing amongst the group of eleven year olds holding their wand like a security blanket stood Lirum. Watching the older woman who stands between large set of double doors “Welcome to Hogwarts, …The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room.
“The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.”
“The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting.” The speech seeming so well rehearsed, like this was event that happened every day. But lirum knew better this moment would decide their fate.
As the doors opened they saw a large dining area with large tables each with students of various ages dressed in four distinct colors. When they made it to the front of the room the Professor McGonagall began calling names off of the list.
“Cedric Diggory” starting with a young boy sorted into Hufflepuff. Each child walked to the front and the hat took a moment before shouting a house and they would each walk to one of the four tables. Lirum was filled with a slurry of anxiousness and excitement. Trying to calm themselves they looked up and saw thousands of candles floating in midair. Snapped back to reality by the boy in front of her “You know mom would kill us if we got sorted anywhere but Gryffindor” as he moved over they saw an identical boy in front of him “Oh and imagine Percy busting a blood vessel if we where Slytherin-“
“Fred Weasley” the first twin walked to the front a few moments massed before the hat shouted “Gryffindor”
“George Weasley” the second twin walked forward and just as quick the hat answer the same as his brother.
“Guindelirum Olivander” the panic set in as they walk forward.
“There is nothing to fear dear sit down” Professor McGonagall said as they reached the front. Asking the question they where not sure they where ready for an answer to “Who am I?” Lirum whispered to the hat as it was lowered into their head it shouted “RAVENCLAW” that can’t be it no deliberation, explanation, anything. An answer ready like plane as day. But not one that makes sense. Even the twins who seemed to know before they stepped foot in the castle had some small semblance of a conversation. But for Lirum it only meant more questions. “What dose it mean to be a ravenclaw?”
