The trap
In the next memory a few days had passed. Remus was sitting on the ground, his legs pressed up against his chest. He was furious, Sirius noticed. Though Remus was always furious now. The rage was a part of him, woven into his soul.
“Hello” a boy greeted appearing above him. The boy had a cheeky smile and kind dark green eyes. They seemed familiar for some reason to Remus. His hair had grown out just a bit, revealing his ginger hair. Sirius could feel Remus uncertainty. “Hi” Remus said. “Come play soccer with us” the boy grinned. He extended an arm and Remus took it. “I am Simon, Simon Stout” the boy still wore that cheeky smile. “Remus, Remus Lupin” he introduced himself, scuffling his feet nervously.
Simon walked him over to the courtyard with a goal at each end. About 15 other kids was already there, including the roommate Remus had punched in the face. His face was all bruised and his nose crooked. The boy was clenching his fists and staring menacingly at Remus. A few of the kids seamed about 10, others older and some younger. Remus was probably the youngest though.
Simon seemed a sort of leader, Remus thought. Sirius felt inclined to agree. Though Simon was by no measure the biggest of the group he emanated a sort of power and the rest of the kids listened to him. Simon was probably nine and even a tall muscular olive-skinned boy who appeared to be about 13 listened though he could easily have beaten the kid to a pulp.
“I am team captain for my team and Malcolm you can be for the other team. I will have Ricky, Dick, Ian, Lip and I will take care of young Remus here” Simon spoke, winking at Remus.
Ricky, Dick, Ian, and Lip walked forward. Remus stomach clenched and Sirius knew why. One of them, Ian was the kid Remus punched. He didn’t look to pleased to see him. His dark green eyes staring him down menacingly. Ricky was a lanky tan boy with freckles, chocolate brown eyes and ripped jeans. Dick was deathly pale with silvery blond hair cropped short and light blue electric eyes. Lip was burlier than the others and a bit shorter too. Lips eyes were almost black they were so dark, his face was crisscrossed by scars, and he had bruises forming on several spots. He looked like the type you wouldn’t want to mess with Remus thought and Sirius agreed.
Everyone assumed Remus already knew the rules and he didn’t have the balls to confess. The game was extremely boring according to Remus, but Sirius disagreed, finding the game fascinating.
After spending 20 minutes chasing the retched ball, Remus was exhausted.
“Now, to business” Simon was no leering as he turned on Remus. The rest of the boys was standing beside and behind him. Ian was right next to him and only then did Remus realize why those eyes felt familiar. They had the exact same eyes and had several similar features. “Loony here seams to think he can break my brother’s nose and get away with it. He is obviously a nut case but all the same. He was curled up like a little baby and muttering to himself. Someone needs to teach him his place. Boys” Simon sneered cooly. The other boys were cracking their knuckles. Some had an unpleasant leer whilst others looked scared, and others grimly determined.
Remus heart was pounding in his chest. Stupid, I should never have fallen for that stupid friendship trick Remus thought. Sirius wished he could help, but he couldn’t. Simon was looking at Ian. “Care to do it? With Malcolm, Lip, Tony, and Hugo” Simon commanded the persons he mentioned forward as he spoke. “Of course, I want to deal with this asshat arrogant tosser” Ian spat venomously. Tony was the huge guy with olive skin who was now staring down at him.
Ian cast the first blow. Straight to the nose. Sirius felt Remus eyes sting. Like the previous time adrenaline and fury compelled him to throw a punch. He hit Ian in the stomach and then wiping his bloodied nose. It hurt, a lot. Ian toppled backward and Remus felt a sharp blow to his ribs, Tony had punched him. A sharp gasp of pain escaped him. Remus managed to get a blow to Tonys face, but Tony didn’t let it affect him. Remus felt like a child battling in an adult’s arms. It was futile. Lip kicked him hard in the shin whilst Malcom shoved him in the chest. Sirius felt the hard asphalt beneath Remus. Remus ears were ringing. He tried to kick but to no effect. It was four on one, in the end he settled for trying to protect his face. Then he felt a sharp sudden kick to the head and his vision began to blur and fade. Darkness was everything he could see and feel. the memory ended there.
