The attack
Sirius was in Remus mind. He was curled up in a small bed in an only half lit room. The only light was the nightlamp on his bedside table. Remus shivered and Sirius could feel him getting goosebumps. He was only half asleep and then a loud *thud* was heard from the other side of the room. Remus eyes fluttered open. He could only see the contours of things, but he quickly became accustomed to the dark. Sirius could feel his heart beat loudly in his chest.
Mom said monsters aren’t real that there just stories. Liar, she is a liar Remus voice cried. Sirius realized what he must be seeing and was astounded and horrified. He had no idea Moony still remembered the attack. The huge muscular wolf had crashed the window. It was jet black with gleaming amber eyes. It sniffed once and its enormous mouth opened into a leer. Remus began trembling, tears falling down his cheeks as he sobbed. He was so scared. Monster, scary monster Remus inner monologue cried. Even though Sirius knew he would survive he felt scared for the trembling boy. He was so small and the wolf so huge.
The wolfs lip curled revealing pointed razor-sharp teeth. He licked them menacingly and started prowling towards the bed. The breath caught in his chest, and he couldn’t breathe. The wolf jumped biting onto his stomach. It was an unbelievable pain. It hurts, it hurts Remus screamed but not out loud, everything coming from his mouth was a scream of pure agony. The wolfs teeth was sharper than knives and he had so many. His jaw was huge being able to bite almost all of Remus stomach. Sirius heard something break and Remus let out a strangled cry of pain. One of his ribs had been broken. Remus couldn’t breathe, he couldn’t see he couldn’t even hear his own screams. The only thing Remus knew was that it hurt. Kill me, rather die than this Remus childish voice cried in his head. He was not able to think after that, it hurt too much. Something was spreading from the open wound of hell on his stomach through his body. It was warm but not pleasantly so, it burned leaving every nerve read raw.
Sirius had always wondered what it felt like to be bitten. He had though it would probably hurt but he couldn’t imagine actually feeling the venom spread through his body. Sirius knew logically that Remus would survive but he could not see how. It was like Remus was being thrown under water and falling deeper and deeper. He could hear as from a distance his screaming and feel the blood oozing from him. Then it was over. There was a voice but since Sirius at the moment shared Remus weakened senses he could not make out what it said but it sounded like a spell. The wolf quickly raised his head and whined in pain.
If Sirius didn’t know what it had just done he would have pitied it. The pain lessened slightly but it still throbbed, and he was bleeding even more now. He was fighting to get up to the surface before but it was even more difficult now. Sirius could sense Remus fighting the darkness with every ounce of power he possessed. The wolf was gone, and a face loomed over him. Remus fought the darkness clouding his vision.
The face was long with brown eyes and a slightly crocked nose. He had soft short curly hazelnut brown hair. His brow was furrowed, his mouth slightly open and tears streaming down his cheeks. His face was worried, angry, and showed such sorrow. He looked like he had just found his son murdered. “Remus” he cried, shaking him gently by the shoulders. Sirius could feel Remus fighting to not succumb to the darkness despite the crippling agony.
He felt a lump in his throat, and he wanted to hug his dad. Even though the wolf was gone he felt scared. Remus opened his shaky mouth and tried to breath. Remus blinked working hard against his drooping eyelids. “dad” he croaked, and a bit of blood came up from his throat out of his mouth. He could not fight the darkness anymore. Everything went black and he was swallowed whole.
When Remus opened his eyes he were in a bed with a flowery quilt over him. He was aching everywhere but mostly in his stomach. Monster, were monster? He thought and started hyperventilating. That hurt a lot but he couldn’t stop though he felt a stab on his left side every time he breathed. “Shhh, your okey now” a kind sweet earthy voice murmured beside him. She was obviously Welsh judging by her accent. Her voice was reassuring but sad and panic stricken. “Mum” he cried. He turned to his side laying on his right side to face her. Remus gasped in pain. Sirius felt uncomfortable hearing the love in her voice.
Mom Remus thought simply but adoringly. She hugged him tightly singing a Welsh nursery rhymes she stroked his hair. “Where, dad” Remus managed. Every word hurt causing new stabs of pain to hit him. “He is downstairs” her words sounded strangely bitter. It sounded weird with her soft voice, Remus evidently thought the same thing. “He is doing research” she said more evenly and calm.
“Want to see him” Remus managed and coughed. I need to see him, make sure he is safe, monster the voice thought and Sirius understood he was worried despite his mothers words. She did not seem to like this idea but did not seem inclined to argue. “Alright” she said instead. She stood up and she was quite short. She was probably 155 cm. She picked Remus up and from the bed setting him gently on his feet. “Can you walk?” she asked gently. He merely nodded, grateful for an excuse not to walk. She held his hand as they exited the room.
Luckily, they didn’t need to walk down any stairs as Sirius had feared. Though this was all in the past and nothing he could change, he still didn’t want little Remus to suffer. “You have been asleep for a week and your dad is in the kitchen, he has been doing some research regarding…” she faltered. Remus curiosity peaked. What is he doing research on? he thought happy to think of something other than the bandaged wound on his belly.
He was about to ask when they entered the kitchen. His dad was very much there. He was asleep over a pile of closed books. He tried to read what the covers said but the letters kept jumping around and blurring out of focus. No wonder you couldn’t read Sirius thought. His mother dropped Remus hand and fell to her knees, sobbing. Neither Sirius nor Remus had any clue why. “Lyall” She sobbed in two syllables. Then Remus and therefor Sirius noticed the potion bottle next to him. Remus tried to read it but gave up. “Mum?” he asked tentatively. She looked up seemingly having forgotten he was there.
“Come here” she sobbed, tears glistening in her eyes. She stood up shakily and held out her hand. Remus took it and followed her out of the room. What’s wrong? Remus thought but Sirius now had some idea. Remus dad had died. “Lyall, your dad is… is” she took a deep breath to steady herself. “Is what?” Remus asked, scared now. His mother was a very calm person and he had never seen her lose it. It was very scary, and something seemed wrong with his dad. “Dead” she sobbed and fell against the wall. “Lyall is dead” she mumbled he eyes wide. Dead? Remus thought. It had not yet sunken in and he didn’t really understand death. His father was in the room right next to them so why couldn’t he just talk to them? The memory ended there.
