Frozen Yogurt

The streets of Arizona were surprisingly busy, considering it being 1:00 in the morning. The street lights were on, and people were walking around the city, on the sidewalks, chatting away. The city was beautiful, it was nothing like what Regulus expected it to be. He expected just dry deserts, maybe a couple of buildings, with little to no people. But, it wasn’t that at all. The city was lively and bright.

“So, where exactly are we going?” Regulus asked.

“Why? You don’t trust me?” James smirked at him.

“No, not exactly.”

James smiled, “We’re getting food.”

“Yes. I’m aware, James.” Regulus rolled his eyes and continued, “but do you even know where you’re going?”

“Hmmmm….depends. Would you be mad if I said I didn’t?”

“Yes, very.” Regulus stated.

“Then, I do know where I’m going.” James replied with a teasing smile.

James looked up at a bright blue sign on one of the building. The sign read, Helio’s Frozen Yogurt.

“Oooh! Want some frozen yogurt?” James said excitedly.

“Sure.”

They took a right into the place, through the doors, and looked around the yogurt shop. It was pretty much dead, expect for the three people in there; the cashier, and two teenagers. Regulus and James grabbed their cups and filled them up with what flavors they liked. James mixed three different flavors into one cup, strawberry, cotton candy, and cookies and cream. He added gummy bears to the top of his frozen yogurt, as well as M&M’s and Swedish Fish. Regulus just got vanilla in his cup.

James glanced at Regulus, then down to his cup, “Boring!” He yelled.

“Excuse me?” Regulus frowned his eyebrows and stared daggers straight through him.

“You’re getting no toppings? So boring!”

“I’m not a maniac, like you! I don’t mix three different flavors that don’t even remotely taste good together into one cup.”

“It’s called having taste, Reggie. Looks like you know nothing about it.”

“Yeah okay, Potter. I’ll just take my plainness and go somewhere else then.” Regulus rolled his eyes and brought his cup to the counter.

“Hey now, hey now!” James started running to the counter, and ripped out his wallet as Regulus was taking out his. “I’m paying for you.”

“I don’t need you to pay for me, Potter. Thank you very much.” Regulus replied sarcastically.

“I don’t care! I’m paying for you! What do you take me for?”

“A complete idiot.” Regulus shrugged.

“Well, at least I’m an idiot who pays!” James smiled happily as he inserted his card into the machine.

“You’re James Potter!” The cashier says in awe.

“Ahhh, you got me!” James laughs.

“Oh my gosh! I’m such a big fan! I’m literally going to the concert tomorrow! This is crazy! I must be dreaming!” The cashier shook her head smiling.

“Well, it’s very lovely to meet you! I hope to see you tomorrow!” James said.

“Do you mind if I get a picture with you? It’s completely fine if you don’t want to.” The cashier asked hesitantly.

“Of course you can!” James smiled very happily. As they took the picture, Regulus stood there watching them both. He didn’t realize there was a smile on his face until his cheeks started to grow sore.

He couldn’t help from smiling though. Watching James interact with people was like watching happy cat videos or babies laughing, it’s just so adorable that it makes you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. He couldn’t look away from James. There was just something so unique about the way James interacts with people, it’s like he’s known them for years, with no care in the world. He could go up to anyone and strike up a conversation without it being awkward or embarrassing. Whether Regulus liked to admit it or not, he admired that about James.

Regulus also likes to see how kind James is to his fans. He always seems genuinely happy to see them, and also interacts with them online. James Potter is just an absolute treasure.

“It was so lovely to meet you!”

“You too! Bye, James!”

Regulus took his cup and started to walk out, James following closely behind.

“You ready to watch me down this entire, yummy, scrumptious, tasty frozen yogurt!” James asked, nudging Regulus.

“No, I am not. I honestly think that you’re a danger to society, and should be locked up.” Regulus said. “Who mixes strawberry, cotton candy, and cookies and cream together? That’s disgusting!”

James pouted and eyed Regulus, “You just wish you had as good of taste as me.”

“No, I’m good actually!” Regulus smiled sarcastically.

James dipped his spoon into his frozen yogurt, and piled a big scoop on the spoon. “Here, try some.” James stuck out the spoon for Regulus.

“Uhhh, no I’m good.”

“Please! For me?” James whined.

“No, that’s gross!” Regulus argued.

“Well, fine then. More for me.” James frowned, and took a bite of the yogurt. James pulled his eyes away from Regulus for a moment to bring them on his spoon. He licked the spoon clean with his tongue, slightly sucking on the spoon. His mouth sucked the end of the spoon, creating noises and sounds that Regulus did not want to hear right now. He let go of the spoon with a pop of his lips.

Regulus was going to explode, he felt it. His skin was on fire.

“Um alrig-“ Regulus stood up abruptly, and tripped, almost falling over.

James looked up confused at Regulus, “You okay?”

“Uh,” he looked away for a moment and pulled himself together, “Yeah, I’m fine.”

Pull yourself together, Regulus.

“You wanna walk and eat so we can actually get some sleep before tomorrow?” James asked.

“Yeah, sure.”

The walk back was pretty silent. It was comfortable silence that Regulus enjoyed very much. He never knew James could actually be silent for more than two seconds. He didn’t think he had it in him.

They walked side by side, eating their frozen yogurt on the way home. There were many times where Regulus could sense that James did want to say something, and interrupt the silence, but he never did.

Regulus was so lost in thought that he didn’t even realize that they were at the hotel until he noticed James turn a corner, and disappear out of his view. He sped up a little to catch up with him.

They walked past the front desk in the lobby and into the elevators. James shifted nervously inside the elevator. He doesn’t do comfortable silence. Never has, never will. It’s been slowly killing him the entire walk home.

“So, um….thanks for coming with me tonight.” James said quietly as the elevator door opened to their floor.

“No problem.” Regulus nodded.

They walked down the hallway, shoulders slightly brushing up against each other, which was driving James crazy. They stopped at their doors, and took out their key cards.

“I had fun tonight. I’ll see you tomorrow, James.” Regulus smiled slightly, and squeezed his arm. He then walked into his room without looking back.

James swore he felt his knees buckle. He wanted Regulus to touch him again. He not only wanted him, but he needed him, he craved him. He stood there for a moment or two longer than he intended. He was frozen in time, replaying the events that just occurred.

His arm felt warm and tingly, and his face felt hot. He needed more of Regulus Black.
