Sometime during their shower one of their elves had laid out their robes for tonight.
Sirius had taken his time picking out just the right robes for a night like tonight. Tonight Severus was finally being recognized for his abilities. His potions master apprenticeship was coming to an end and he was about to become the youngest potions master in Europe in the last 100 years. Sirius was so proud of his man.
"hey handsome, ready for tonight" Sirius put on his flirtiest smile hoping to get lucky
"you know I hate being the center of attention, but it's all been worth it"
"you're worth it," Sirius winked "it's just one night. I really am so proud of you Sevvy...you've accomplished so much." Sirius took a step closer to put his arms around his boyfriend's waist.
"are they going to talk about your newest patent? you've been killing it. I was looking over our joint vault yesterday and it's impressive, even without the Black family gold in there."
Severus smirked. "I know."

After he was done speaking Severus came and sat on Sirius' lap. Sirius leaned his face into his chest.
"You did amazing babe"
"I'm just glad it's over." he gently kissed Sirius' forehead and got up
"I'll be back."
Severus wandered over to his colleague Kacper Khan and Sirius couldn't help but notice that they smiled a small smile at each other. Severus never smiled at anyone other than him and sometimes Lily.
What the fuck was going on?
Sirius tried to pay attention to the conversation he was in with some of the folks from his department at the university but his eyes and mind kept wandering over to his boyfriend.
Now that he was thinking about it he hadn't felt the press of his family's consort ring when he leaned into Severus' chest. Sirius had proposed with it when he first became Lord Black earlier this year and Severus had put an engagement on hold until he had his own future in order. He wore the Black Consort ring on a necklace and Sirius was used to feeling it under Severus' robes when he'd lean on him.
His mind was moving a million miles a minute.
His boyfriend wasn't wearing the consort ring...he smiled at his colleague...he was quite distant and short with him this afternoon while getting dressed...when was the last time they had sex?
Suddenly all the pieces fit together and Sirius had to excuse himself to the restroom before he threw up. Not that he could even hear what everyone was talking about right now. Dear Merlin he should have known they couldn't have lasted after Hogwarts. What made Sirius ever think that a brilliant man like Severus could ever find true happiness with an immature prankster like him. Sirius was pretty sure his heart was stuttering to a stop in his chest as he apparated straight home. He took a dreamless sleep from their cabinet, one of the extra potent ones Severus makes and instead of taking a small sip he drinks the entire thing and curls up onto Severus' pillow.

he woke up the next morning in a haze. his mouth felt like cotton, his head was pounding and he refused to open his eyes as he remembered that Severus was leaving him. Sirius stifled a sob, Severus deserved to be free to find someone more interesting than him. they'd been together since they were 12, it was only a matter of time before he got sick of Sirius.
"Sirius?"
he slowly turned his head to the side and saw Severus was on a chair next to their bed holding a pepper up and a black coffee. he felt his heart break further and harder
he couldn't hold back the tears anymore. he burst out crying.
Severus went from looking livid to worried.
"Sirius what is wrong? You disappeared on me last night and I came home to find you passed out on my pillow. What possessed you to drink this entire bottle of dreamless sleep?"
"Well I love you, you're the love of my life and you're leaving me"
Severus paused "okayyy...that's news to me. I absolutely do NOT plan on leaving you"
Sirius sniffled and continued on "I saw you smile at Khan last night. You never smile at anybody. We never have sex anymore and you took off the consort ring"
Severus' face softened.
"yes I did" he held out his hand as he wandlessly wordlessly summoned a box.
Sirius froze.
"we were smiling because he knew I was planning on doing this, I used the jeweler he recommended"
he took a deep breath and continued before Sirius could try to form words
"when you proposed to me I told you I wanted to wait to be engaged until I was done with my apprenticeship and was more stable. part of that was I didn't want you to get any credit for my success. I didn't want news of our relationship to reach the world before news of my accomplishments did because I wanted people to know I Did this myself, without the influence of Lord Black helping me. The other reason was I knew people would wonder why beautiful, intelligent, charismatic and both magically and politically powerful Lord Sirius Black would want to be with Severus Snape son of a poor muggle. I wanted to show them that I was powerful on my own, that I became rich on my own that I was chosen bc I am able to stand next to my man on my own. I am quite possessive as you already know Sirius and I wanted to be able to back up every threat I issue to anyone who comes for my man. I want them to know that I am not to be taken lightly." he smirked and opened the box
"I've been distant bc I've been nervous. I'm not the best at expressing my emotions, but you've been so patient so I really wanted to do this right. However I'll just say what I'm thinking. I don't know how to properly express to you the depth of what I feel for you Sirius. I love you, I've always loved you and I will love you for the rest of my life... I choose you and I will always choose you... I don't just want to marry you, I want to bond with you"
Sirius looked at the box and saw the consort ring nestled next to a platinum band with a Black diamond in it. His heart swelled and he felt like he could cast a thousand patronuses.
"Holy crap. Fuck yes Severus, fuck yes." Sirius screamed and jumped onto his man.
As they laughed and kissed Severus slowly made them get up.
They put the rings on each other and just as Sirius got lost in another kiss with his fiancé...
"so you were complaining about lack of sex, Black? can't have that can we" he raised his eyebrow as they fell back into their bed...
"Seeeevvvv....don't tease me..."
