A New Game of Chess
Summary
I had inspiration for this story. It's only a one-shot. Basically, a narrative of all the wizarding wars and how it has to do with Dumbledore. I'm not explaining it very well. But this was just an idea. I hope you like it. I think it's worth the read. It's not very long.I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER OR ANY OF IT'S CHARACTERS. ALL RIGHTS GO TO J.K. ROWLING. ANY PLOT DEVERSION AND MY PERSONIFICATION OF DEATH BELONG TO ME!

They watched them. Watched them all. Watched as each side slowly got angry. Angry that they weren’t being accepted, angry that their beliefs and rights were being stripped away from them. You might ask which side they are referring to? Both. The Dark and the Light. Both pieces on a chess board. But one must remember there are players.

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Headmaster, Grand Sorcerer, Chief Warlock, formerly Supreme Mugwump, half-blood, on a quest for the greater good.

The next question would be, how does the game end? But to know this, you must know the true motives and why.

Albus Dumbledore, white pieces, moves his first pawn, Gellert Grindelwald. Albus sees the power within Gellert. Becoming infatuated, he holds on to this pawn, moving it across the board. But then… the pawn becomes queen. The Queen becomes the first chess piece of Albus’ opponent. Gellert has become the first of the second player.

The game begins.

Checkmate. The opponent has lost. White wins. Albus has secured Grindelwald. A pawn is put aside, Grindelwald no longer holds power. Albus sets up for a new game. Waiting for a new opponent, Albus opens. Setting the pieces for the greater good.

The Greater Good. A title. For whom?

A new pawn has emerged, it is infected with darkness, the white fading. But it still has not wavered to the other side. Albus pushes this pawn away, hoping it will be set aside and never played again. But this pawn fights and emerges on the other side. Not as a piece to the board, but a new player.

Tom Marvolo Riddle, Lord Voldemort, the Dark Lord, half-blood, on a quest for immortality.

For the first time fear is seen in Albus’ eyes.

The game begins.

The game is long. Beginning with calculated moves, the opponents are matched. The game lengthens. The power is wavering. Tom is gaining pawns. Albus is losing many. The dark side is almost there. A win is not far away.

Tom slips.

Tom scrambles to hold onto a fading sanity. The maddening sparkle gleams within Albus’ eyes. Time is fading quickly. Mere minutes on the clock. Tom makes a drastic move.

A new pawn emerges, a baby protected by a mother's love. The board rattles with uncertainty.

Adjourned.

Tom has disappeared. Albus has gained a blind knight. The clock stays frozen. The baby, now a boy. A boy destined for the purpose of the Greater Good. The boy is stuck in one spot. Outside forces fracturing the boy from all sides. A light appears, the boy reaches for it, the blind knight emerges.

Lord Voldemort has started the clock. Headmaster Dumbledore plays. The blind knight ahead of the other pieces. Headmaster Dumbledore favors this piece. Headmaster Dumbledore sees the ending with this piece. Many rounds, many favors.

The blind knight meets Tom. The blind knight feels empathy? For Lord Voldemort? No. For the boy, the boy who was only known as Tom.

Dumbledore pulls the blind knight back.

The game is much longer. Too many plays. No longer calculated but irrational and rushed. The ending is coming quickly. Both sides are gaining power. Erratic choices are made. Headmaster Dumbledore makes a frantic choice, he now plays from the in-between. The blind knight is a pawn in the game. The blind knight is tired, but the war is coming.

Lord Voldemort declares check.

The blind knight meets Headmaster Dumbledore again.

For the Greater Good, for the immortalization of the Greater Good, the blind knight must go back. The blind knight is confused. The blind knight questions. The knight comes face to face with Albus. Albus urges the blind knight to get back on the board, to win the game.

They are tired of this game. They decide to interfere with the game. Albus and the knight meet Death. For the second time, fear is seen in Albus' eyes. Death gives a set of choices to the knight. Go back on the board, checkmate and the white wins, but many secrets will stay buried, and soon there will only be darkness. Or…. take hold of the game, go back, know the plays, and change the game. The knight is fearful but agrees.

Death greets their new master.

A new player emerges. Harry James Potter, the boy-who-lived, the blind knight, the Master of Death, half-blood, immortal. Harry takes his place on an entirely new side. Grey pieces emerge.

A new game is afoot.
