Heavy is the heart
Summary
They had started this, knowing it could never end well. And how could it? There was no such thing as happy endings for her – not for a Black. Because that´s what she was. She´d been proud of it for most of her life, but more and more it felt like curse rather than a blessing. Yes, that´s what it was – a curse. A curse that even true love´s kiss could not break. She´d spent her whole life trying to be perfect, striving to meet her family´s expectations. And she had. She had been the grand jewel in her family´s crown, a heavy crown under whose weight she seemed to fall. And in these moments it had been Alice that had helped her up, whose hand had reached for her, who had been the one that saved her. But in the end, it had always been clear that she had to let go of the hand, so that she wouldn't drag her down with her.
Note
The story begins with a conversation between Alice and Narcissa. Oh only if they knew it would be their last.

How could you?

Narcissa sat down at the breakfast table next to Lucius. It felt wrong to sit there and keep the facade on while she was dying on the inside. Itfelt wrong to carry on as if she hadn´t lost the love of her life. It felt wrong to sit there as if she her hands weren´t covered in the blood of a love she had never imagined she could have - a love she had killed. “Good morning, Cissy” “Good morning, Lucuius”. He hadn´t noticed her absence last night and if he did he didn´t care. He never did. She probably could´ve been murdered last night and he wouldn´t have noticed. Just like he didn´t seem to notice her red swollen eyes that she´d tried to cover with a charm. But nothing seemed to have helped. She felt herself not capable of performing the most simple spells.

It felt like the magic was drained out of her. It was as if her body had been shut down, limiting her functions to breathing and simply existing. And right now, she could have done without it. Empti- amd Heaviness seemed to be in her, simultaniously trying to drain her. Alice had been the air in her lungs, the wind in her back, the light in her darkness. And now she´s gone and so is the light. Now she´s just sitting in the dark, waiting for the air to go out.

Lucius head was still hidden behind the daily prophet when he let out an amused chuckle. “What is it?” Narcissa asked. To be honest, she nornally didn´t really care what he found amusing and what not. But for some reason she had a tight feeling in her stomach, telling her something bad had happened. If Lucius chuckled it was in most cases because the most morbid and horrendous things – it was not a good sign. Some muggle had probably been murdered. Perhaps it had been Greyback or another one of his abhorrent pack, who knows.

“They got them. They really did” he chuckled and turned the page around, so she could take a look at it. As she read the headline she felt her heart shatter to a thousand pieces. In that moment, the world went quiet. No, that couldn´t be true. It couldn´t. She couldn´t… Her whole world seemed to collapse and fall apart. She wanted to scream, to shout, to kill. The only thing she could think about was Who. Who did this? Whose abominable work was this? She apparated to Grimauld place and found her family sitting at the breakfast table as if nothing had happened. All eyes turned to her but she didn´t mind. She no longer cared what they thought of her. They could think she was insane, because she was already close to it.

“Who was it?” she screamed “WHO DID IT?” she faced each and everyone of them, pointing her wand directly to their faces. But someone was missing. One chair was empty. Footsteps were approaching. Someone was coming. And as she wanted to turn around she felt cold breath on her neck. And a voice so familiar whispered something in her ear. “Me. I was it" her words were felt like a stab in her heart, "Isn´t it done beautifully? I guess till death us parts really did come true” ,she looked Narcissa in the eyes, “although technically they aren´t dead. Yet”. Her own sister. Her own sister had done it. The love of her life was gone by the hands of her own sister. “What now, Cissy? Are you too stunned to speak?” she laughed. It sounded manic, insane. But perhaps that´s what she was. Insane. Narcissa knew Bellatrix had always been somewhat sadistic and cruel. But this?

Oh, she was going to pay for that. The drained feeling left her body, anger took it´s place. Rage consumed her and she let it. It gave her strength, it gave her power - it pushed her to do what had to be done, what she wanted to do. And before Narcissa had realized the word had left her mouth. “Crucio” she whispered. Bella fell to the ground, screaming. But then…she laughed. Perhaps she really had gone mental. “Come on, Cissy. I´ve endured worse. Is this all you got?” she was winding on the ground, her body slapping against the floor up and down. And Bella was right with one thing. She had more up her sleeve. She used every curse she knew and threw them right at her. It brought her satisfaction, but revenge, revenge she did not get. There was no way to make her feel the pain she felt. Because Bella never had loved. Perhaps she had never been capable of loving. And so, she would never know the pain that was consuming her at that moment. Narcissa knew killing her was no solution, otherwise there would be no way of lifting the curse, but it also would spare her. It would protect her from facing the full expand of her wrath. And that, she could not let happen. Because right now, all she wanted her to feel was pain until she begged for mercy which she would not receive. And until then, Narcissa would love to hear her laughter turn to screams.
