"What the hell is going on?" Pansy asks, her voice full of confusion.
"The pranking war just got taken to a whole new level," Blaise replies, watching the twins with a sort of awe in his eyes.
"They're insane," she mutters, crossing her arms over her chest.
Blaise doesn't reply, but he hums in agreement. There's no way he can disagree with her.
"And they're Gryffindors," Draco says, sounding a bit disgusted.
"That's not their fault," Pansy says, glaring at Draco.
"It's not like they chose to be Gryffindors," Blaise says, turning to look at his best friends.
"Yes, but they could have chosen to be less annoying," Draco says, his voice still full of disgust.
Blaise rolls his eyes and looks back at the twins. They're still laughing and Blaise can't help but smile. He's not sure what it is about them that draws him in, but he can't stop himself from watching them.
"I'm going to go study," Pansy says, giving Blaise a weird look as she leaves.
Draco glances at Blaise, a curious expression on his face.
"What?" Blaise asks, looking away from the twins and at his friend.
"You're staring," Draco says, his voice almost teasing.
"I'm not staring," Blaise says, turning his gaze back to the twins.
"Yes, you are. You're also smiling. And you look like you're about to blush," he says.
Blaise scowls and turns his gaze away from the twins. He doesn't know what's gotten into him. He's never had any kind of attraction to boys before. He's never had any kind of attraction to anyone. But now he's staring at two Gryffindors and he can't stop himself from smiling.
"You're so weird," Draco says, rolling his eyes.
"I'm not the one who thought it was a good idea to befriend a Weasley," Blaise says, smirking at his friend.
"I've been friends with them for years, Zabini," Draco says, taking a seat at the table the twins are sitting at.
"Yeah, well, I've been friends with you for years and I'm still not sitting with them," Blaise replies.
Draco rolls his eyes and turns his attention to the twins. They're still laughing about whatever prank they pulled and Blaise can't help but wonder what it is. He's never seen anyone pull pranks like the twins do. He's always been a bit envious of their ability to make others laugh.
"So, what'd you do?" Draco asks, grinning at the twins.
"You'll find out soon enough," George says, grinning at Draco.
Blaise can't help but wonder what it's like to be so carefree. To not have a care in the world. To not have an agenda. To not have to spy on Dumbledore. To not have to worry about what's going to happen to the world. To not have to worry about the Dark Lord.
He's a bit jealous of the twins.
"You know, we have a lot of pranks in our storage cupboard. You're more than welcome to take what you want," George says, grinning at Draco.
"I think I'll take you up on that offer," Draco says, smirking at the twins.
Blaise watches as the twins pack up their stuff and follow Draco out of the library. He watches them go and can't help but wonder what it's like to have that kind of freedom. To not have to worry about what will happen if they get caught.
He takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly. He can't help but wonder what it would be like to be a Gryffindor. To not have to worry about what will happen if he gets caught. To not have to worry about what will happen to his family. To not have to worry about what will happen to the Dark Lord. To not have to worry about what will happen to his friends.
He wants to be carefree.
He wants to be a Gryffindor.
He's always thought of himself as straight, but now he can't help but wonder if he's wrong.
