When Hogwarts finally entered 21st century, it was mostly thanks to headmistress McGonagall. She was the one who decided to implement many much needed changes - Starbucks was just one of them. It was the first location in Magical Britain, even before the Muggle world. Neville decided to get a job there, as he really liked latte art and wanted to learn how to do it.
He was the first one to arrive to work on that summer day. The coffee shop wasn't open yet, but the Hogwarts' resident coffee-obsessed dragon was already there, waiting for the manager to arrive.
"Morning, Norbert!" he greeted the dragon enthusiastically. "How are you today?"
Norbert, who obviously didn't understand a word he said, just hissed at him. Neville patted his head and continued to wait, humming a song he learned at muggle coffee shop.
The manager arrived just in time, and both of them unlocked the doors. As the first customer, Neville had an opportunity to make the first latte of the day. He spent a long time trying to make a heart, but it was just a mess. However, he didn't give up and continued to practice every morning over and over again.
Many students were coming to the coffee shop in the morning, as it was the only place they could get warm beverages. Be it latte, hot chocolate, or even just a cup of tea, the coffee shop was always the most visited place in Hogwarts. The older students usually came to caffeinate themselves before staying up all night to finish their assignments, while the younger kids usually came to get a nice refreshing lemonade or cozy hot chocolate.
"Morning, Neville!" greeted a small blonde boy enthusiastically. "Can I have a cup of hot chocolate?"
"Sure, Dylan!" Neville smiled and began to make the drink. "How's your summer going? Are you excited for the new school year?"
Dylan nodded enthusiastically. "I can't wait to see the new changes!"
"I'm looking forward to it too," Neville admitted. "I heard that we are going to get a new coffee machine. I'm really excited to try it!"
"It's not a coffee machine, it's a coffee shop!" corrected a voice behind him. "And it's not a new change, it was implemented at the beginning of summer."
"Oh, right," Neville turned around to greet the girl. "Good morning, Luna. How are you today?"
"I'm good, thanks," she sat down at the bar. "And I think you're excited for the new coffee shop."
"I am!" he agreed. "I like latte art and I want to learn how to do it. But I can't practice on my own at home, so I decided to get a job here. And it's been nice so far, I like all the people I work with."
"I'm glad," Luna smiled. "I like your coffee."
"Thank you!" Neville finished the drink and handed it over to the girl. "Here you go."
"Can I get a lemonade as well?" asked Dylan.
"Of course!" Neville nodded and turned to make another drink.
As the morning went on, many students came to get warm drinks to start their day. Neville was always enthusiastic and happy to make new drinks and chat with the customers. It wasn't long before he made so many friends that his shift was always the busiest one.
Not everyone was coming to drink coffee though. Some of the older students preferred tea, and some of the younger kids needed a nice refreshing drink in the middle of a warm summer day. Neville was happy to provide them with whatever they wanted, and he even created special drinks for them.
"Good morning, Neville!" greeted a tall boy as he entered the coffee shop. "Can I have a muggle lemonade and a cup of hot milk tea, please?"
"Sure, Justin!" Neville smiled and began to prepare the drinks. "How's your summer been? Is it nice to be home after spending months in a Muggle school?"
"It's been great, thanks." Justin sat at the bar and watched Neville work. "You're really good at this, I was sure I was going to get a drink with lemon peel floating in it."
"I've been practicing," Neville admitted. "I want to be really good at latte art. I like how it looks."
"Well, you're already better than me." Justin sipped his drink when it was ready. "That's perfect, thanks."
"You're welcome!" Neville smiled and continued to chat with the boy. It was nice to have someone to talk to during his shift. Then someone else entered the coffee shop and Neville greeted him with a big smile. "Good morning, Cedric!"
"Morning, Neville!" Cedric sat down at the bar and ordered a cup of tea. "Can I have a coffee later?"
"Of course!" Neville nodded enthusiastically. "I'll make you the best coffee ever!"
As the day went on, the coffee shop got more and more crowded. Neville was making drinks left and right, and he was really happy. He liked making new friends and chatting with them, and he liked to have something to do. He was also happy that he could help caffeinate older students to finish their assignments, as well as provide younger kids with nice refreshing lemonades or cozy hot chocolates.
Everyone was happy, and the coffee shop was a nice place to be. Neville was hoping for it to stay that way, as he really liked his new job.
