Chapter 1
Hermione was sitting outside Director Lounder's office when a very large, ugly man came out. He glared at her and she glared back. The man left and Director Lounder came out with a small, black-haired, green-eyed boy with broken glasses and clothes much too large for him that had quite a lot of holes in them. Director Lounder looked at her. "Miss Black, this is Harry Potter. Mr Potter, this is Hermione Black. Miss Black, I called you up here because I need you to show Mr Potter to your room. He's to be your new roommate. Please try to get along with this one. We're running out of space to put the roommates you scare away, Miss Black," he sighed.
"Yes, Sir." Director Lounder went back into his office and I showed Harry to our room. He flinched every time there was a loud noise. I sat down on my bed and gestured to the bed opposite. Harry sat down on his new bed. "So, Harry, who was the man that dropped you off? Most would assume he's your father but he didn't look like you."
"Uncle Vernon. He married my mom's sister. My parents died three months after my first birthday so I was sent to live with Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and my cousin Dudley. I turned three last month... This is a nice room. Lots of space."
"Lots of... This room is tiny. That's why I drive out my roommates. There's only enough space for two beds, one wardrobe and a bedside table between the two beds. We can't even get to the radiator under the window because it's blocked by the bedside table and there's nowhere to move the table. I figured if I got rid of enough roommates, they'd give up hope and take the other bed out. Then, I could re-arrange the room." Harry winced at my words.
"Sorry."
"No, it's fine." Harry's eyes went wide.
"What the..."
"What?"
"Your- Your hair... It... It's just turned dark blue!" Harry exclaimed. "Now it's black! And green! And silver! And back to brown! How are you doing that!? That's so cool!" I smirked at Harry.
"I don't know. I can change my appearance whenever I want. My hair, my eyes, my height, my skin tone, all of me. I can even do this." I changed my face to look like a cat-human hybrid.
"Cool," Harry whispered in awe. "I wish I could get rid of my scar."
"Why do you have an N-shaped scar on your head anyway?"
"It happened in the car crash that killed my parents."
"I doubt that happened in a car crash, Harry, but okay... It's weird it's an N-shape, though."
"Aunt Petunia said it's a lightning shape but when we drew lightning at school in art class when we had to draw a picture of the weather of our choice... Which I thought was stupid to do... Lightning was one diagonal line, a straight line and another diagonal line this is a diagonal line, then another diagonal line and then another diagonal line and not diagonal, straight, diagonal so it is an N-shape and not a lightning shape."
"You're Aunt Petunia is stupid, Harry."
"I know. So are Dudley and Uncle Vernon."
"Why were you left here by your Uncle Vernon, Harry?" I asked.
"Uncle Vernon dropped me off here because of my 'Freakish Behaviour' when my hair grew back overnight. Aunt Petunia had shaved my head because she was fed up with trying to control how 'unruly' it is. I like my hair the way it is, though. Things like that happen to me all the time. I can understand snakes and talk to them in snake language, I can teleport myself when I'm really scared and I can move things without touching them... I'm a freak."
"No," I said firmly. "You're not. I can do all of those things too... I'm a Witch. I can do magic. And so can you... Although, you can call yourself Wizard if you don't want to call yourself a Witch... I've never met someone else like me before... I always wonder if my parents could do magic too," I whispered.
"Aunt Petunia once said 'You're a Freak just like your parents were' so I think my parents could do magic too but Aunt Petunia and Dudley can't so maybe not everyone in a family can... But now I have no family," Harry whispered, sadly.
"Well, I don't have any family either... And you're like me so..." I thought about it and then decided. "You and I can be family. Brother and sister... If you want, Harry?"
"Yeah, I'd love that! I've never had a sibling before!" Harry was really excited and I was too.
"First, we're going to teach you how to control you're magic like I mostly do... I sometimes struggle with the whole change-my-appearance thing and whenever I get too angry, things tend to set on fire and I've been told people can see little flames in my eyes... I'm still working on control too but I think I'll always have anger issues."
"As long as you're you, Hermione, it doesn't matter. Anger issues or not, you'll still be my sister." I smiled at him.
"Thanks, Harry," I whispered.
...
I woke up and was really excited. Today is the first time Harry and I have something to celebrate together. "Harry, wake up! Come on, Harry!" I shook Harry several times and he just groaned. "HARRY, WAKE UP!!!" Harry groaned and sat up rubbing his eyes.
"Morning, Mia," Harry groaned. "Happy fourth birthday." Harry opened his eyes, looked at me and screamed. "Mia! You look like a female me!" I looked in the small mirror we had on our bedside table and Harry was right. My hair is black and messy like Harry's, I have a scar like Harry's and my eyes were now the same shade of green that Harry's are.
"I don't know why I didn't think of this before, Harry. Now, not only can we be siblings but we can also be twins." Harry grinned at me.
"My scar won't look as weird... Do your hair the same length as mine?" I shortened my hair and Harry grinned again. I looked in the mirror again. I kinda like my hair like this. "But we don't share a birthday, Mia."
"Well, now we have two birthdays we can share. Happy birthday, twin bro."
"Happy birthday, twin sis... What's our official birthday going to be then?"
"Well, your Uncle Vernon didn't tell anyone here when your birthday is, so my birthday?" I asked him and he nodded. "What's our name going to be then? Because I don't have a middle name, that I know of at least, but you might so..."
"If I do, I don't know what it is," Harry said. "How about we go with Potter as a middle name and Black as our surname but say it like it's hyphenated."
"The Potter Black twins... I like it," I told him. "Let's go and celebrate our fourth birthday."
"Let's," Harry said.
...
"Harry! Harry! Come here! Look what I got!" Harry walked over.
"Is that an owl?"
"Never mind the owl, Harry. Look!" I showed Harry the letters I just got from the owl. I handed him his one. "The owl was carrying them. We got Owl Post, Harry! Post from an owl!" We opened our letters.
HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)
Dear Miss Black,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl no later than July 31st.
(A Professor will come to take you to Diagon Alley to get your school supplies on August 31st if you accept your place at Hogwarts.)
Yours sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall
Deputy Headmistress
I swapped letters with Harry and his letter said the same except his had Mr Potter on it. "We're going, right?" Harry asked.
"Definitely." I penned a response on a spare piece of paper on our bedside table. Harry and I signed the letter and we rolled it up and tied it to the owl's leg. The owl flew out of the window.
...
Harry and I were called to Director Lounder's office on August 31st. "Do you think this is because of the Professor?" Harry asked.
"Has to be. They'd have to get permission for us to leave the grounds and go to the school," I said. I knocked on Director Lounder's office.
"Enter," he called. Harry and I went in and saw a guy dressed in a black suit with a white shirt and black bowtie. He turned around and looked shocked at them.
"By the Gods, there's two of him," the man whispered. He looked like he was about to faint. Harry and I smirked at the man and he paled impossibly more.
"Hi," Harry and I said in unison as Director Lounder left and shut the door. "We're Harry and Hermione Potter Black. It's nice to meet you." The guy looked creeped out but slowly pulled himself together.
"Hello, I'm Professor Severus Snape. I'm the Head of Slytherin House and Potions Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I wasn't aware you looked alike. How do you, if I may ask?"
"I can change the way I look whenever and however I like," I said. "When I met Harry when we were three, we decided we'd be siblings. I woke up a few weeks later, on my fourth birthday, looking like him. So we decided to not just be siblings but twins."
"Changing your appearance at will is a very rare ability. Other than you, I believe there is only one person currently that can do that. Her name is Nymphadora Tonks. She's a Metamorphmagus like you, Miss Potter Black... Why did you choose that as your surname?"
"Well, our surname is Black as that was my surname but Potter is our middle name so we decided to say Potter Black as if it were hyphenated as neither of us knew what our middle names are. Our letters still came as Miss Black and Mr Potter, though. Can that be changed?"
"I'll talk to the headmaster about it, Miss Potter Black."
"Hermione."
"Hermione," he said. "So Mr Potter Black and Hermione, are you ready to go?"
"Harry and yes," Harry said and Professor Snape nodded his head. He looked at me so I nodded at him and we left.
...
Professor Snape was talking to the goblin in charge of Gringotts about the Potter Vault for Harry to get money from when I remembered something I had wanted to ask. "Professor?" Professor Snape looked at me.
"Yes, Hermione?"
"Is there any way to find out who my parents were?" Harry perked up at this. He wanted to know more about his family history too.
"Yes, Hermione. Gringotts can do an Inheritance Test when you turn 17. The Ministry for Magic would pay for an Inheritance Test as all of-age Wizards and Witches are entitled to know about their family history. However, if you wish to know before your seventeenth birthday, you can do a Heritage Test, which is the same thing, but you must pay for it yourself."
"Can Hermione and I both do a Heritage Test and the money come from the Potter Vault?" Harry asked. Professor Snape looked at the goblin and he nodded. Professor Snape handed over the Key to the Potter Vault. We were taken into a room which the goblin said was his office. He had us sit down in front of his desk as he sat down behind the desk. Professor Snape stayed standing and looked annoyed at the goblin.
"Which one of you wants to go first?" The goblin asked us.
