A Tourney to start the adventure

Once they felt ready Harry and Hermione stood in front of the door with 5 settings, everything they could possibly need was there, in their personal Hobbiton. Harry and Hermione looked at each other, turned the dial and pushed open the door. Adventure awaits.

They stepped out into a sea of tents as they heard a loud voice calling loudly about signing up before the competition starts. Hermione surreptitiously shrunk the door into a pendant before clipping to her necklace and then quickly transfigured their clothes to match those around them (very thankful for the wide area notice-me not Harry had done). Harry meanwhile was craning his neck to try and find out what sort of competition it was. Then he heard it. Tourney competition. His eyes brightened as he turned to look pleadingly at Hermione. Hermione rolled her eyes, Harry had found Tourney and was quite a natural at it, she knew that If she didn’t give her consent Harry would be so disappointed and Hermione didn’t want that (He had such a pitiful hang dog expression that she was pretty sure he learnt from Sirius that was lethal). She nodded her head and Harry was striding off, Hermione being towed along with him. Suddenly Harry stopped

“I don’t think we should use the Potter or Granger name here, they won’t fit in. I think we should use the name Peverell instead.” Hermione cocked her head as she considered it was wise to use a more old fashioned name and Peverell was certainly old, but then she shook her head and pointed to the sword of Gryffindor “We should use Gryffindor instead to match the sword and we should use a griffin instead of a lion on our coat of arms.” Harry nodded as Hermione pulled a Gryffindor slightly altered to have a griffin with wings spread instead of a lion shield out and handed the heavy thing to Harry, Harry blinked and looked at Hermione “What I came prepared for anything. Harry shrugged, hoisted the shield into a more comfortable spot on his arm, and held out his other arm for Hermione. Hermione took his arm and walked with him as they approached the sign-up table.

Hermione made her way into the audience ready to see if Harry’s skills lined up here, seating herself next to an older lady and gentleman with white and silver hair respectively. Once she was situated she turned to the lady next to her “Hello, I’m Lady Hermione Gryffindor of house Gryffindor” The woman looked curiously at Hermione and with a look at the gentleman said “Princess Rhaenys Velaryon previously of House Targaryen, and this is my husband Lord Corlys Velaryon. May I know where you are from? It’s not often I have to introduce myself especially around here.”

“Ah, well yes, I come from a land called Britannia, it is a long way from here. My husband and I are travelling everywhere to see everything.”

“Your Husband?” she reached up to touch the dragon cuff on her ear, drawing their eyes to the piece of jewellery.

“Yes, Lord Hadrian Gryffindor of house Gryffindor. One of the ruling families along with Emrys, and Pendragon” Hermione mixed Gryffindor with Merlin and King Arthurs houses. Praying like mad that the two would believe her. From the look of them nodding they were buying it. “Is he competing today?” Hermione gave a long-suffering sigh “Of course he is, silly man, any chance to show off with a chance of injury, he’s in” Her audience raised their eyebrows at the injury comment amused and looking forward to seeing and eventually meeting such an interesting sounding character.

The three stopped talking as the royal family was introduced and Hermione worked hard to prevent her eyebrows from raising at the matching white hair of the royals (matching her seat mate). She then listened calmly as the event was introduced.

When Harry first came out on his black steed with crimson and metallic gold colours Hermione pointed him out to her seat mates. He made an impressive figure, dark hair, piercing green eyes, sitting comfortably, proudly upon his horse, a small smile curling his lips as he looked over directly at Hermione. Princess Rhaenys watched the married couple smile at each other, almost in their own world. Hermione watched particularly closely when Harry competed, muttering darkly under her breath when anyone performed dirty tricks or smiling when Harry won each of his matches.  When Harry competed against the rogue prince it was a tie as both men were unsaddled, so it came to swords. When the sword of Gryffindor was pulled, Hermione leant forward, muttering under her breath. The sword was poisonous but only when Harry wanted it to be and as cuts appeared on the rogue prince without him crying out in pain, Hermione concluded that he had remembered to prevent its poisonous effect. Eventually both men stopped and shook hands. Both realizing they would not be able to get the upper hand against the other and neither wanting to pull any dirty tricks. A tie, with both men congratulating each other with slaps on the back, laughter and smiles.

The rogue prince was beat by some person name Criston Cole who turned to dirty tricks? With Harry beating the gent afterwards with ease. Harry had won the contest and when he was given the crown of flowers to present to the queen of love and beauty he turned towards Hermione’s direction, who with her eyes indicated Rhaenys. Harry placed the crown upon Rhaenys’ head pronouncing her the queen of love and beauty. After the ceremony and harry had collected his prize he went to find his Hermione, who was standing chatting with a white haired couple and was being approached by the royal family. Harry quickly made his way to Hermione, pulling her hand to his mouth for a kiss before turning to the couple to be introduced “My lady! My love! You’ve made some friends I see, care to introduce us?” Harry played the fool to cover any blunders he may accidentally perform.

“My Lord Hadrian Gryffindor or house Gryffindor, may I introduce Princess Rhaenys Velaryon previously of House Targaryen, and her husband Lord Corlys Velaryon of house Velaryon” Harry smiled brightly “Charmed, did you enjoy the competition? I love some good injury provoking fun” Hermione indicated to Harry with a look at Rhaenys who smiled. Rhaenys smiled, yes, a couple very much in tune with each other and very much in love. She could tell he was playing to a crowd, but was unsure of the reasoning why. Oh well, doesn’t matter.

Just then the royal family joined their little group. More introductions were made with Hermione bowing and curtsying when needed. Daemon immediately gained Harry’s attention asking about where he learnt to fight and where can he get a sword like that, meanwhile the King and Queen had started talking to Rhaenys and Corlys leaving Hermione to talk to the two teens Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. When Rhaenyra started talking about taking Cristen Cole as her Kingsguard knight, Hermione had nodded “I’m sure he will do the job admirably, rigidly, to the book, overwhelmingly much like his fighting style in that regard.” Rhaenyra had paused, that didn’t sound like any fun, so she asked Hermione what she meant. Hermione had then explained that although his movements got the job done, there was no finesse, just a lot of brute force and efficiency. Rhaenyra scrunched her nose. She made it sound dreadfully dull and boring and when she thought about it she did see that. The only reason he had won was that her uncle had gotten angry (and was probably drunk). No, she did not want a boring knight following her around. She’d much prefer to choose Ser Harwin Strong or Ser Harrold Westerling, who were a bit more humorous and not as rigid.

Later that day Rhaenyra would go on to chose Ser Harwin Strong as her Kingsguard knight. Criston Cole would go back home never to be seen again. The Kingsguard who had been following the royal family exchanged looks when Rhaenyra made her choice, realizing that by saying no they were basically daring her to do it. They were thanks gods for that foreign lady, as they had known that Criston Cole would not have been a good fit.

Hermione was sitting with Rhaenys when Rhaenyra approached to like a child rub her being heir in Rhaenys’ face. When Rhaenys had said that men would rather let the world burn then let a woman sit on the throne, Hermione had nodded and said “unfortunately for us, this is a patriarchal world where men want power and to keep it and will cut off their nose to spite their face as long as they believe that they hold power and stop others from gaining it. Especially women.” Rhaenys had nodded it was a very accurate statement. “But, they are also stupid, hang a carrot in front of their face and they may just forget that you hold a stick and a bigger carrot.” Both princesses cocked their heads, it was an odd statement not one they had heard before, but it was understandable. Rhaenyra nodded, find something they want and offer it to them, to prevent them from remembering the threat she presents as well as what she had to gain. Rhaenyra left the group pondering upon what she could do.

Harry and Hermione had told their new friends that in the morning they were riding to continue their travels. They had said their goodbyes and hopes to see them soon. So as dusk touched the land Harry and Hermione on their horses left Kings Landing.

Two hours later they were guiding their horses back through the doorway into their little slice of paradise. They were home.
