Remus had just finished his latest painting, a stark depiction of a breadline outside a soup kitchen, when his friend Peter suggested they go to a speakeasy that he had heard about. Remus was hesitant at first, but the promise of free booze was too good to pass up.
They arrived at the speakeasy, and the first thing Remus noticed was the music. It was a sultry jazz number, and the band was playing it with such passion and energy that Remus felt himself swaying along with the rhythm.
That's when he saw Sirius. He was tall and elegant, with dark hair slicked back and a three-piece suit that fit him perfectly. He was surrounded by a group of people, but he seemed to be in his own world.
Remus couldn't take his eyes off of him. He had never seen anyone so captivating.
Before he knew it, he was walking over to Sirius' table, his heart racing with nervousness.
"Mind if I join you?" he asked, gesturing to the empty chair.
Sirius looked up at him, a hint of a smile on his lips. "Not at all. I'm Sirius."
"Remus," he replied, taking a seat. "Nice to meet you."
They started talking, and Remus found himself drawn to Sirius' quick wit and easy charm. They talked about everything from politics to art to the latest fashion trends.
When the band started playing a slow song, Sirius took Remus' hand and led him onto the dance floor. They danced together, their bodies moving in perfect sync, and Remus felt a warmth spread through him that he had never felt before.
As the night wore on, they moved from the speakeasy to a nearby park, where they sat on a bench and talked under the stars. Remus told Sirius about his struggles as an artist during the Depression, and Sirius listened with empathy and understanding.
"I wish I could help you," Sirius said, taking Remus' hand in his. "You're too talented to be struggling like this."
Remus smiled. "I appreciate it, but I can take care of myself. I've been doing it for a long time."
Sirius leaned in and kissed him softly on the lips. Remus felt his heart skip a beat.
"I know you can," Sirius said, pulling back. "But that doesn't mean you have to do it alone."
They spent the rest of the night together, walking through the city and talking about their hopes and dreams. As they said their goodbyes, they exchanged numbers and promised to see each other again.
As Remus walked back to his apartment that night, he knew that he had found something special in Sirius, something that he had been searching for his whole life. And he knew that no matter how difficult their circumstances might be, they would find a way to make it work.
