A Connection

Draco was frustrated, to say the least. For days he had been following leads now. Weeks even. And for what? To come up with nothing. Possibly even less then nothing. Because by bugging his parents over the last few days, and maybe annoying them a little bit,

- a lot actually. His father had to ban Draco from his study, since he hadn't  wanted to stop asking questions about the night he'd been bitten-

he had probably stopped his primary sources from ever talking to him again.

His mother had been nice enough, to at least tell Draco the lie they'd always told him. A group of rogue vampires storming their house, after aimlessly roaming around the near forest. Just an ambush without a motive other than hunger.

Draco didn't believe that anymore though. He had never really believed it. But back then it hadn't really interested him either.
Of course he had found it odd for his parents to so blatantly lie to him. But parents just did that sometimes. It was to protect him, Draco was sure. But what his parents didn't seem to get, was that he didn't need nor want their protection anymore.

The only thing he did want was to find the vampire that had turned him and slice his head off before playing quidditch with it afterwards. Contact-sport his ass.

At least he knew how many vampires there had approximately been. Five. With the two dead in their backyard, there were still three to hunt down and slice open.

Easy enough.

He had been down by the vampires' grave at least a dozen times in the last few weeks, noting the names on their headstones and trying to research them in 'influencial vampires over the years'. But of course he came up blank. They had been freshly turned back then. Maybe ten, fifteen years as vampires. His parents had still found their family's, and had been able to find out their names.

Just other victims of the same fate that had befallen Draco as well.
But Draco wouldn't die a death as pathetic as theirs, he was sure.

When Severus arrived to celebrate Draco's birthday belatedly, Draco was even more excited to see the man, questioning him about that night repeatedly.

Severus hadn't been there when the vampires struck, but Draco had a feeling that his godfather knew something Draco didn't.

And when Severus left, way earlier than intended, because 'something came up',
-probably only a ruse to get out of there-
Draco wasn't even angry. Because he had got something out of his godfather. No names, or possible motives.

A connection.

A string between the Malfoys and Vampires were the Death Eaters.

--

The Malfoys didn't really talk about Lucius Malfoy's past much. Draco's father always wore dark flowy robes, covering all his limbs. Most specifically his left arm. Draco still knew about the mark though.

Over the last few years the Drak Mark had faded visibly. But Draco knew it was still there. A part of his father's past nobody could very well deny, although Lucius had tried to. Even successfully. Clinging to the prospect of not having known better, of being under the Imperius curse.

With how much Lucius Malfoy praised the Dark Lord though, when under friends and family, Draco had never believed for a second, that his father hadn't willingly partook in the dark lord's scemes.

So Lucius Malfoy was a Death Eater. Narcissa Black Malfoy was a Black. That whole family had probably invented blood prejudice.

So they were already a target to any Muggle or Mudblood - sympathizers. But those light wixen didn't often support dark creatures. They also often didn't hire people to attack others. That was more of a Death Eater and dark wixen thing.

Although, It had been pissible before.

But now that Draco knew that more than a few Vampires had fought for the dark lord in the war, that seemed even less plausible. So it had to be someone on the dark lords side. Most likely a death eater.

Someone unhappy with how thr Malfoys had handled themselves after the war perhaps. But everyone that had stood up to the ministry without defying the dark lord had been locked up in Azkaban, and still residet there. There had never been a breakout.

So either whoever had ordered the attack on Malfoy Manor was either a Hypocrite or Draco was missing something.

This leading theory was, however, a step up from nothing, so Draco was going to stick with it. Now he only had to find out who had ordered the hit. And there couldn't be that many Death Eaters that had survived the war, could there?
