Snow Angels

Pearl stood by watching Mitsy lay back in the snow in her light blue fashion coat all pretty and smiling. There she began waving her arms and legs in the frozen ground to make a snow angel. She giggled while Pearl felt some type of way.

“Are you just going to stand there and watch me? Come make an angel, dear Pearl!”

“If you say so,” the braided-loop haired farmer’s wife spoke with uncertainty. She squat down in Howard’s old flannel hunter’s jacket and dungarees she wore for the outdoor occasion.

Her muskrat fur hat fell off her head the moment she sat up after waving her arms and legs in the snow.

“Now what?”

“Now we get a good look at ourselves, you silly!” Mitsy was already on her feet; reaching down to help the troubled girl up.

They both stand together alongside the farmhouse to admire the twin angel patterns below. Mitsy squealed with glee and hugged Pearl excited. Pearl pushed parts of the sister-law’s platinum curls off her mouth to peer over her shoulder.

Ruth had been spying on them the entire time through the upstairs bedroom curtain. Seeing her daughter interact with Margaret’s spoiled offspring made her feel guilty for not having the special bond she could have with Pearl.

How could she when the two of them were on different sides of the same coin? Neither one could agree on anything.
