A painful night in the Astronomy Tower
Summary
James Potter does not feel good and Regulus is there to be the shoulder to cry on.

After what felt like an eternity, the class was finally over and everyone left the classroom as soon as possible.

His friends started to exit the room but the rush made James anxious so he slowed down and left after everyone else.

The marauders had already gone to the tower, not even noticing that James was not with them. Due to this James’ thoughts started to spiral.

Instead of going to the common room he went to the astronomy tower.
When he arrived tears were already streaming down his face.

He sat down on the edge, his legs dangling down. The feeling of loneliness only became worse. His friends didn’t like him, otherwise they would have noticed he was gone, right?
The rest of his thoughts only got worse.

His hands started shaking and the tears started streaming down his face even harder. James tried taking a few deep breaths to calm down but it didn’t work.

The robe he was wearing was already soaked by now and he must’ve been sitting there for over an hour.

Because of his unsteady breaths and loud sobs he didn’t hear the approaching footsteps and only noticed there was someone else in the tower when a soft voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

James couldn’t make out what the person said but the voice sounded familiar. When the figure approached, he tried taking a look at who it was but couldn’t recognise them because of his tear filled eyes. It was not until the person wrapped their arms around the crying boy that he realised who it was.

He could have known that Regulus would find him here as it was the place they had spent a lot of nights in, cuddling and talking until the sun had started to rise. Regulus held him closely and let him cry out.

After James’ breath steadied and his loud sobs were nothing more than a few tears he found the strength to wrap his arms around Regulus. It made the other boy tighten his arms and they spent the rest of the evening wrapped around each other. Later they fell asleep in the same position.

The next morning James woke up, his head leaning on Regulus’ shoulder. He smiled at the sleeping boy and felt a kind of happiness he only felt when with Regulus.

“You’re staring.”

It made James giggle and blush a little.

"It's because you're so beautiful."
Now it was Regulus' turn to start blushing.

"How do you feel?"

"I'm fine."
James didn't like that Regulus had seen him cry since he now knew he wasn't always the happy smiling boy he was with his friends.

"What happened last night?"
Regulus' tone softened at the question as he didn't want to make James shut him out.

"It was nothing."

"It didn't look like nothing."

"It was nothing."

"James, you can talk to me. I won't judge you."

"I wasn't feeling so good."

"What happened?"
The returning question made James shrug.

"James?" Regulus's voice had a warning tone to it, making sure the other boy knew lying wasn't an option.

"I just felt this sudden pain and I started thinking about stuff."

"What stuff?"

"It felt like everyone hated me, and I know it's not true but it felt like it was and it hurt so bad." His eyes filled with tears again which made Regulus wrap his arms around James again.

"It's fine James. You are allowed to be sad. You're always helping everyone. Next time come to me."

James wanted to argue but Regulus' expression left no place for that. He just nodded and relaxed in the arms of his lover. Happy to know love like that.
