Chapter 2
I get off the train and go straight to the great hall, avoiding the rest of the marauders.
Why is Sirius acting like such a prick. Just because I have changed since the last time he saw me doesn’t mean he has the right to treat me as if I’m not the same Remus I was last year. I’ve known he was always a twat but come on. The way he was acting is complete rubbish.
I get to the great hall and I’m one of the first forth years to sit at the Gryffindor table besides Lily who somehow is always there early no matter what.
“Hey Remus” Lily turns to me with a bright smile “hello Lily. Read any good muggle books this summer?” “Oh yeah tons. I brought some with me if you want to borrow them.” Lily says eagerly “I would love to” I say with the same amount of excitement.
At the end of last term, Lily gave me this sheet so that I could actually read. I guess I didn’t put that into much use this summer.
“Oh! And I love the new look Remus” Lily says sincerely. “Thanks Lils.” Why couldn’t Sirius have acted like that. Why is he such a snob. Like my new attitude is nothing compared to his new snobby one. I guess this is what I get for becoming friends with a posh pureblood.
I space out waiting for the sorting ceremony and the food to come out. I look up and I see the marauders walk into the great hall. I make eye contact with Sirius almost right away. He looks away immediately. Seriously what the fuck is his problem.
All three of them sit across from me. James is flirting with Lily, Pete tries to start a conversation with me about chess that I only half participate in. I catch Sirius staring at me and when I look at him, he immediately looks away.

After the sorting ceremony, Pete and the girls are having an argument about God knows what, and James and Sirius are also having an argument about quidditch. I have zero interest in all the bickering so I tune them out as best as I can and try small incantations. I rest my head on my hand and get my glass to fly in the air until I get bored and put it down. I look at the Slytherin table and see snape giving me a dirty look as soon as I make eye contact with him.
Suddenly I have an amazing idea. “hey lads watch this” I say as the marauders look at me. Under my breath I say “Alarte Ascendare” sending snape high in the air as he screams at the top of his lungs. The marauders and I burst out in laughter as the rest of the people in the great hall join us. He is in the air for a good 30 seconds wailing like a little girl begging to be let down until lily gives us all a dirty look and I let him go.
James is the first to say something. “See, I told you lads, same old moony.” I smile and looks away.
When I look back I see Sirius looking at me again, but not in the way he was before, this was new. He had a small smile on his lips and his eyes were soft while he looked at me, and this time when I looked back at him he didn’t look away. All of a sudden my hands started sweating and my heart started racing a little. My face softens a little as I continue to watch him. He smiles a bit more before he looks away. I stare at him a bit longer before I also look away.
What just happened?
I stare at the table thinking about what just happened when Mary turns to me, knocking me out of my own thoughts. “So Remus, have a nice summer?” “Yeah, pretty boring though” I say forcing myself to fully participate in this conversation. “Bull shit” she says giving me an amused face. “What?” “I can smell the cigarettes Remus, I’m not an idiot. I’m guessing you had loads of fun this summer.” She say’s. “Maybe I had little fun.” I say in an almost joking voice. “Well, I’m glad. I can’t wait to hear all about it very soon. I’m sure you have some great story’s to tell.” “Don’t hold your breath.” I say with a small giggle. She rolls her eyes at me and turns around to continue talking to Lily and Marlene, forcing me to be with my thoughts again.
