Chapter 2
A godparent, huh?
Remus assumed that was the closest he would ever get to having children. Not that he really wanted any. Children were a handful.
Despite being barely a year old, Harry was already too much for him and Remus only spent two or three days out of the week with him and Lily. It was enjoyable most of the time. Still, he won’t say that hanging out with a baby makes him want one of his own. Babies are loud and smell and they like to tear books and sweaters and piercings.
Which was funnier when it happened to Sirius rather than Remus.
“Happy birthday, Bambi!” Sirius grinned, scooping Harry out of Remus’ arms, “Guess what Uncle Padfoot brought you~”
Harry babbled something incoherently.
“Mm-hm, that’s right! Uncle Padfoot got you your very own bike. It’s just as cool as mine!” Sirius said, presenting Harry with a miniature motorcycle.
Remus rolled his eyes, “He’ll break his skull if he plays with that.”
Sirius huffed– their horrible date may have occurred two years ago at this point, but they were still forced to interact (both being named godparents of little Harry)– “Oh please, he’s a big boy.”
“One, he can’t walk. Two, he hasn’t even said his first word yet.”
Sirius looked at Harry in mock offense, “Are you listening to Uncle Moony, kid?”
“Don’t call me Moony,” Remus said.
Harry giggled, squirming in Sirius’ arms, “Mooe-y!”
“Excuse me?” Sirius gasped.
Remus stared in shock.
“Was that your first word?” Sirius asked, “Did you say Uncle Moony’s name?”
Harry kicked his legs playfully, “Mooe-y! Mooe-y! Mooe-y!”
Sirius laughed, “James! James come’re and bring your wife!”
James and Lily, who had been putting the finishing touches on the god awful ugly cake they had made for Harry’s birthday, rushed into the den, frazzeled and covered in icing, “What? What happened?”
“Is Harry okay?” Lily asked.
“He’s better than okay!” Sirius cheered, turning Harry in their direction, “Go on, Bambi, show Mummy and Daddy what you just did for Uncle Moony and Uncle Padfoot.”
Harry giggled cutely, chewing on his hand, “Uc-le Mooe-y,”
James and Lily gasped, holding onto each other, “His first words!” James sobbed.
Lily jumped up and down, “My baby said his first words!”
“The uncle part is new,” Sirius said, turning Harry back around and holding him high in the air.
Harry kicked his foot into Sirius’ mouth, “Uc-le Patty!”
James and Lily gasped again, squealing in excitment.
Sirius’ jaw dropped, “He said my name! He said my name!”
Sirius placed Harry in Remus’ arms, jumping up with joy. It was cute. It reminded Remus of how he would act when their house would win a soccer game back at school.
Harry tapped Remus’ cheek, “Moo-ey?”
“Yes, Harry?” Remus asked, poking Harry’s chubby cheek with his finger.
Harry giggled, pressing his face to Remus’. Suddenly, Lily pushed Sirius to stand next to Remus, “Okay, okay, pose pretty.”
“Huh?”
James grinned, already taking pictures on his phone, “Look pretty for the camera. We need to remember Harry’s first words!”
Harry giggled gleefully, holding his hands out to James and Lily, “Mama! Dada!”
Remus smiled as he watched James and Lily melt a bit. They took their baby, crying like the saps they were. Remus took it upon himself to take a picture of the lovely, lovely family.
