A Night's Comfort
The corpse was fresh, you could tell by how beautiful she still was......and all the blood pouring from her stomach......
All sound ceased around Bride when she saw Nina's corpse......she could, however, hear a loud noise, one that would've ruptured anyone's hearing, and for some reason, her throat felt hoarse and sore.
It wasn't long until she realized that the sound she heard was coming from her own screams. She practically sprinted towards Nina, only slowed down by the water......until it felt like she was trying to trudge through thick mud.
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't reach Nina.....who then started sinking, sinking into the water, deep into the dark depths where Bride would never see her again......
"NO!" Bride screamed as she shot up from her bed, sweating and panting. She soon calmed herself and looked around the room she was in. She was no longer in Polikastan, she wasn't near the lake, she was in her Belle Reeve cell.
"Mmmmm...." Bride turned her head to the noise and saw who made it.....it was Nina, sound asleep next to her.
That's right, Nina did die....but she came back months ago, and thanks to Flagg, the original team got their own wing in the prison. It was still a prison.....but at least know it was more bearable.
Nina was back....back with her. Flagg was able to get them their own shared cell.
Bride relaxed as she laid back down behind Nina, gently wrapping her arm around her waist. Unfortunately, Nina was slightly awakened.
".....mmm, Bride, what's wrong....." She wasn't fully awake, but her kindness was always automatic.
"It's nothing, love....." Bride never told anyone about her nightmare, but she wanted to tell Nina.....but she just couldn't.
"I thought I heard you screaming....." Dammit, why was she just so......perfect.....
"Just a bad dream, nothing to get your panties in a twist." She knew Nina wasn't any right now......but the saying still stood.
"Okay......we'll talk about it some other time......"
Uuugh, why did Nina decide to take a study in psychology.....why did she believe she needed to be 'more' useful. Flagg assigned her as reconnaissance, she observes the number of guards and defenses.
Her skills helped them defeat a cult that wanted to summon an eldritch deity that would've destroyed the world, bit Nina still felt useless as she did little fighting. Flagg did teach her a few self defense techniques, she wasn't a Lady Shiva, but she could defend herself better.
The Bride will admit, their teammates have been benefitting from sessions.
G.I.'s actually been talking less about killing Nazi's.....he still does, just less constantly. Bride keeps wondering how therapy actually worked on a robot? Did she open his head and crossed some wires or something?
Phophserus unloaded a lot in his sessions, and thanks to Nina's upgraded suit being resistant to extreme temperatures, and even radiation, he was able to hug out his problems. He actually started getting back to his scientist roots, possibly even back to his research on another way to cure cancer.
Weasel......he doesn't really talk, but Nina found alternative ways around that. Least Nina convinced the team to take shifts in walking Weasel to use the bathroom outside......Phophserus is extremely grateful he doesn't have to burn his piss-scented pants.
It's only been the Bride whose been the most stubborn. She wants to tell Nina everything she feels.......and maybe her nightmare was reminding her just how afraid she is that the next mission they go on......she'll just watch helplessly as she gets Nina killed.....again.
Bride is taken out of her thought process when she felt Nina's hand over hers, the fish's webbed fingers intertwining with hers.
......fuck, Nina was truly an angel with scales. One day, she'll tell Nina everything.....
