chapter 12
They sat in silence for a while. Draco lost in thoughts about how to reach Loki while Freyja was thinking about how she could have missed such important parts of Loki’s life. Sure, she knew about when she once caught him trying to sneak back in to the castle after visiting Midgard. After then, Loki had shared everything he had been doing in past decade or so. But she never knew the things he had been upto. She certainly didn’t know he played the lyre.
She sighed. She deserved all the cutthroat remarks from Draco. She didn’t tell the truth to Loki when it was actually due. She certainly shouldn’t have left him alone when he found out. She shouldn’t have maintained the pretence Odin was so dying to keep. but she was still a war bride. The fate of her people lied in her hands even after thousands of years. But, she has had enough. Odin will accept what she has to say or he will the wrath of her children.
No matter what Odin says, Loki is Freyja’s child. Even if she didn’t gave birth to him.
For that, she needs to be truthful.
“Do you know about the Doom of Old Valyria?” she asks. Startling Draco out of his thoughts. He faces her and gets comfortable on the chairs.
“No, After our talk about Aerion, the first Dragon Rider, I did research about the Old Valyria. I could go as far as how Jaehaerys Targaryen named Viserys Targaryen his heir.” He replied.
“Yes, Yes, Jaehaerys the wise king. It was quite cunning how he let the noble choose his successor. As the son of Jaehaerys’s second son, Baelon, Viserys was chosen over his cousin Rhaenys for the throne for one reason: he’s a man, and she’s a woman, and no woman had ever sat on the Iron Throne.” She said. Dispondent.
“All of Targaryen history was disheartening when you think about how men used their dragons for the iron throne.” Draco concurred.
“The doom was years before the Aegon’s conquest. Over the course of several thousand years, the Valyrians grew in power and pride, establishing an empire that ruled most of Essos, and the men who lived there. Their gods looked on as they saw what they had seen before beginning anew. The Valyrians, like the dragons before them, had become a destructive force that couldn't be controlled. The gods resolved to stop the Valyrians and the dragons and let the other men rule over the earth. However, Tessarion took pity on one girl, Daenys Targaryen, a noble girl from a small noble house of freeholder dragonlords. To Daenys, Tessarion sent dragon dreams of what was to come. Aenar Targaryen relocated his entire household to Dragonstone, a small volcanic island off the east coast of Westeros. The Targaryens were one of the forty major families of dragonlords in the Valyrian Freehold, though they were not one of the more powerful ones. Aenar was encouraged to flee Valyria by the prophetic dreams of his daughter, which warned of the coming disaster. Along with them the Targaryens took five dragons, who became the only dragons to survive the Doom. Balerion was one of these, but the other four later died through unrevealed circumstances. They did leave eggs behind, however, and from these hatched Vhagar and Meraxes.
Meanwhile, the gods began their plan. One day, the unsuspecting freehold and its capital of Valyria were awakened by a rumbling sound. Mount Valyr above them exploded in smoke and ash and fire. The tremors destroyed the beautiful architectural marvels and the fires destroyed the great works of art. When it was all done, the city laid in ruins. The dragons choked on the ashy air and died. Valyria was no more.”
“So, Aegon’s conquest was years after The Doom?”
“Aegon Targaryen, Lord of Dragonstone, aspired to unite the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros under one ruler. Slightly more than a hundred years after the Doom of Valyria, in 2 BC, he began his conquest, in which he was aided by his two sister-wives, Rhaenys and Visenya. All three were dragonriders, and used their dragons, Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar in battle. Aegon's Conquest lasted for two years.”
“Then what about the Great Winter?”
“King Aegon the Conqueror, had a vision that the world of men would fall, and understood that only his family of Aryan inbreds could save it. Aegon foresaw the end of the world of men. It is to begin with a terrible winter, gusting out of the distant North. Aegon saw absolute darkness riding on those winds and whatever dwells within will destroy the world of the living … if the world of men is to survive, a Targaryen must be seated on the Iron Throne.”
“If I am correct in assuming that Targaryens were not seated on Iron Throne during the long night, why?”
“Because of Robert's Rebellion, also known as the War of the Usurper, was a rebellion against House Targaryen, primarily instigated by Eddard Stark, Jon Arryn, and Robert Baratheon, for whom it is named. It lasted "close to a year" and resulted in the end of the Targaryen dynasty in the Seven Kingdoms and the beginning of Robert Baratheon's reign.
When Daenarys Targaryen arrives to the Dragonstone, she is visited by the High Priestess of Lord of Light. She convinces Daenarys about the prophecy and Aegon’s dream, that she is the Princess that was promised. She fights the war with the White Walkers along with the Starks, she even loses one of her Dragon. They barely survive when Odin went to Midgard, to aid them. The war went on for years. Odin had successfully rid Midgard of White Walkers and force them back to Jotunheim. –“
“W-Wait, the White Walkers were Frost Giants?” Draco asked. Flabbergasted.
“Yes, the war then went for centuries on Jotunheim, until Odin defeated Laufey and lost an eye. He confiscated their power, the Casket of Winters. And returned home with a babe. That baby looked like Odin, the nose, the light tan skin. But the eyes, they were blood red. Over the years Loki learned how to glamour his eyes without even us teaching him. He got the power of shapeshifting from his mother, and power of seidr from his father. He is half Aesir, half Frost Giant” She completed.
“No, no, no, no, no, Loki is Odin’s son. Laufey was his mother.” Draco gasped. “Odin cheated on you.”
“Yes,” She chuckled humourlessly. “He had an affair with an enemy. But that does not mean Loki is not my son. He may not be my blood but he certainly has my magic, my love.”
Draco grasped her hands in his. “I apologize, for ever doubting your love for him.”
“Its because of these secrets, Loki is not here right now. I intend to bring Loki back him. I will do whatever in my power to find him.” She said as she patted his hair.
Draco smiled, for the first time since he was here. “I believe you.”
