The dog and the snake

“Where’s Sirius?” Lily asked when she saw Remus come into the kitchen.

“He’s not feeling great.” Remus replied, grabbing some food, “Christmas has always been hard for him.”
“Oh yeah. Would he be up to do something for Christmas or would he prefer to just have a quiet night?” Lily said.

“Maybe something with the order.” Remus though a loud as he walk upstairs, “Thats what we did last year remember?”

Lily looked at him confused and then Remus made an o shape with his mouth, “You guys weren’t there.”

Lily looked sad for a moment thinking about the last Christmas she had and would ever have with her James. “What if we invited Pandora over for Christmas?”

Remus smiled, “I think Sirius would love that. Would she like to stay at the house till New Years? Sirius always loved a party. That might make him feel better.”

“I’ll ask.” Lily responded. She then watched as Remus headed back upstairs with the food. She then turned back around and went to the kitchen. She then grabbed some mashed potatoes from the fridge and fed them to Harry who was strapped into his highchair.

Remus came back down about 5 minutes later. He then proceeded to get a plate of food. Once he had made his plate he sat down across from Lily. Once Lily noticed him Remus said, “So,”

Lily, still focused on feeding Harry, replied, “So?”

“Your little sex adventure from last week?” Remus said.

Lily groaned and rolled her eyes, “Remus can we just not? It was a one time thing and I was pretty drunk.”

Remus raised his eyebrow, “You invited her over for Christmas.”

“She was lonely!”

“She’s your ex!”

“We ended on good terms!”

Remus rolled his eyes, “Come on Lily. I know you and I know that you don’t do the whole meaningless sex thing. You still like her.”

Lily groaned and threw her head back, “Remus! I still like her!”

“So, I don’t really see the problem.” Remus replied.

“But I’m married!” Lily whined.

“Well technically, you kinda aren’t” Remus reminded her.

Lily sighed, “It felt so good. And so bad. It was so wrong. But so right at the same time. Am I making any sense?”

“Yeah,” Remus nodded, “I understand.”

“I just don’t know what to do. Maybe it was just a one night stand for her. But I really like her, and I feel bad about it.” Lily ranted.

Remus nodded his head during her rant and when it was over he thought for a moment on the best way to explain this to her. “You have a garden Lily. You following me?”

“Nope!” Lily shook her head, “There is no garden in any homes I have lived in.”

Remus rolled his eyes, “It’s a metaphorical garden.”

“Oh,”

“Anyways,” Remus continued, “You have a garden. And James helped to take care of it. He helped make it a nice garden. Now that he’s gone, you haven’t had anyone to help take care of the garden. So the garden died, but since you’ve met Pandora, the garden is thriving again. You understand?”

Lily, who looked absolutely mortified, said, “Yes I get it.” She picked Harry up out of his high chair, “And I don’t need you to call my sex life a garden.”

When Lily was walking up the stairs she bumped into Sirius, “Hey, you alright?”

“Yeah,” Sirius nodded, “I’m alright.”

“I invited one of our school friends over for Christmas and New Years. Is that okay?” Lily asked.

Sirius smiled, “Yeah. That sounds awesome. You coming down to eat?”

“I’ll be right down. I’m just going to put Harry down for a nap.”

“Ok.”

After Lily had set Harry down for his nap she came back down to join Remus and Sirius. Once she had made her plate and sat down with them. Sirius asked, “So who did you invite over for the holidays?”

“Pandora.” Lily admitted.

“PANDORA!” Sirius shouted.

“Keep it down, Harry is sleeping.”

“Sorry,” Sirius apologised, “But Pandora! As in the girl you dated but then she broke up with you because she thought she was straight?!”

“How did you know that!?” Remus interrupted.

“I just did Rem.”

“Yes.” Lily rolled her eyes, “That Pandora.” It was silent for a moment while Sirius digested this new peice of information until Lily said, “And remember that time I went out with Dorcas and Marls.”

Sirius sat there for a moment and then his mouth made an o shape, “You were with Pandora that night. Weren’t you.”
Lily nodded.

“And did you, y’know?” Sirius asked.

“Yeah.” Lily buried her head in her hands.

“Do you like her?”

“We aren’t talking about this anymore.” Lily said, putting her foot down. “We should go out once Harry gets up.”

“It is literally raining outside.” Sirius pointed out.

Lily groaned, “Come on! I hate England!”

Remus laughed, “You can say that again.”

As the three were sitting in silence and sipping their tea there was a knock at the door. Lily got up, “I’ll get it.”

Lily walked to the houses entryway and opened the door, she was absolutely gobsmacked when she opened the door and was greeted by none other than-

“Hi Lily, I heard you were here.” Severus Snape said.

“Severus? What are you doing here?” Lily asked, stepping outside and slightly closing the door behind her.

“Well,” Snape looked through his pockets until her pulled out a ring, “I came to ask to marry you.” He got down on one knee, “Lily, I have loved you since I met you and now that James is out of the way I decided there no better time that now. So, Lily Marie Evans, will you marry me?”

Lily looked so surprised and disgusted that she could throw up.

“No.” She said quietly

“No?” Snape asked back. “What do you mean no? I can give you shelter, comfort, and a father figure for Harry.”

Lily had so many thoughts at the same time, she wanted to tell him to leave, that she never loved him, to go fuck himself and punch him all at the same time. “What?” She ended up saying.

“Well the young boy shouldn’t grow up without a father.” Snape explained, “Minerva told me that he does resemble James quite alot but I am willing to look past that for the two of you. I promise that I would treat him any different than our other children.”

“Other children!” Lily exclaimed, “Severus I am not marrying you.”

“It’s okay Lily, we can get married in a while. I’m not dragging you to the courthouse right this second, you deserve a proper wedding.”

It was then that Sirius, who had been listening for a behind the door opened it, “She said she’s not marrying you, git.”

“See Lily, why do you want your son around men like these? You don’t want him becoming one of them-”

“A what?” Lily challenged, “Go on! Say it!”

“A dirty, diseaesed, queer.” Snape said, making direct eye contact with Sirius. Lily took a step forward, looking like she was going to punch him, until she was stopped by hand from Sirius. Sirius took a step forward, “I think it’s time you get the fuck off my property mate.”

“Oh I’m terrifed.” Snape mocked.

Sirius scoffed, “You like your job? Being a potions proffesor? Well if you want to keep it I suggest that you get the fuck out of here.”

Snape opened his mouth to say something but instead huffed. Sirius added, “And if you come near my home, Lily or my godson ever again, you will fucking regret it. So you better hop to it and get the hell out of here.”

Snape turned around and left. Once he was no longer in earshot Sirius muttered, “Now we’re wet. Great.”

Lily laughed. “Lets go back inside."
