Chapter 1
This year pulled on everyone’s nerves and reserves. The Carrows were relentless in their mission and ideology. Even the castle itself seemed to feel as glum as the students in it. There was no more laughter in the halls and corridors of the old Castle. Students hurried from place to another. Their head held low as to not attract the Carrows wrath. Most of the teachers tried their best to protect their students, but honestly, there wasn’t much they could do, if they didn’t want to be sacked. Yet there was a resistance. Of course, there was. There always was. A last bastion of hope. Students that rallied behind the last glimmer of hope. No matter the House they were sorted in. Even though there were very few Slytherins in their ranks. Most of the higher profile members, never left the Room of Requirements due to the severe risk to their life. But Luna Lovegood never was afraid of the risk. Some might call her Loony and maybe she was, but it didn’t really bother her.
That was one of the reasons she was on her way to the astronomy Tower now. The Room of requirements was at its limits, what it could do for the students, and something pulled her to the tower in the middle of the night and so she began to wander. She wasn’t as reckless as many might believe her to be, so she put a Disillusionment Charm over herself, before she left the sanctity of the Come and Go Room. Hidden from prying eyes she walked through Hogwarts Corridors until she reached the stairs to her Destination.
She began climbing them. Step by step. One after the other, never two at a time like she would have done in old times. She was careful not to make a sound while climbing the Tower.
When she reached the top of the stairs and stepped onto the Platform, she froze for a second. It wasn’t often that something made her freeze but the sight before her, was definitely one of those few things.
Before her stood no one else, then Professor Snape. His back turned to her, his forearms resting on the railing of the Tower, looking over the Hogwarts Grounds. He seemed more like a statue then a human being. She couldn’t even see him breath. Yet she simply dropped her Disillusionment Charm and stepped next to him. Looking over the Grounds of Hogwarts.
He didn’t move but kept his gaze straight ahead. Not saying a word. Well, not until Luna broke the silence.
“There are very few Wrackspurt here. Its peaceful.”, she said quietly, turning her head, to look at Headmaster Snape. She noticed how pale he was. The dark Bags underneath his eyes told her, he probably didn’t sleep for at least 2 days straight.
“You know I Should just hand you over to the Carrows, for being out of bounds after curfew, Miss Lovegood.”, his voice was silky smooth. A blade laced in velvet. But she didn’t even flinch, just smiled softly at him.
“You probably should, yes.”, she said but made no attempt to run away. “But Hogwarts trusts you. More than most.”, she said and moved her gaze back to the sight before her. The Grounds of Hogwarts, illuminated by the Moonlight breaking through the heavy clouds.
She wasn’t afraid. In her heart she knew that Hogwarts must be right. Even if the rest of the Resistance refused to see it. Hogwarts trusted the dark-haired man, which meant to an extent that he could be trusted. After all, the castle refused to let Umbridge into the Headmasters office, during her time as a Headmaster.
Suddenly the blond began rummaging through her Bookbag, before pulling out a strange looking bracelet. It was made from shards of Moonstone and Unicorn Horn, bound by Unicorn Hair.
“May it help you, find some peace, Sir.”, she said, while handing it to the Headmaster, before leaving the Tower as quickly and quietly as she arrived. His gaze following her for a very long time.
