[Lance Crown x GN!Reader] Coming back for more

"[Name], if you continue to perform so badly on your exams, I'm afraid we'd have no choice but to expel you."

Your History of Magic teacher scolded you in the middle of the classroom hall.

You've always known that you weren't the brightest bulb, but being talked to privately by the teacher was another level of humiliation.

None of your subjects was nearly as bad as History of Magic since it was the only subject requiring more memorization and little critical thinking. Being absent for many days also led to your bad marks.

"That's why I've decided to assign you a tutor." Your teacher pushed his glasses up his nose bridge.

You looked at him, puzzled. "HUHHH?"

Moments later, you were in the library reading a huge history textbook. Sitting across from you was Lance Crown, the student who ranked first in the class.

YUP, that's right.

Your teacher made Lance-fucking-Crown your tutor.

Like you guys didn't even know each other!

You turned to him awkwardly: "Sorry about that."

He just shook his head as if it were no big deal. "My name is Lance Crown."

"Oh, oh right, I'm [Name] [Last Name], but you can call me [Name]. Nice to meet you."

He's one cold guy, isn't he?

Your first impression of the other person didn't go well.

Lance sat with both legs and arms crossed as he stared at your old tests with a twenty and a sixteen percent.

"..."

"How did you even get into Easton Magic Academy?"

"Hey, that was rude!!" You exclaimed, only to receive glares from other students in the library.

Your voice lowered into a whisper: "Besides, I'm not dumb, this subject just sucks."

Lance raised an eyebrow, showing suspicion.

"Really. How come?"

His question was a trigger to your pent-up frustration: "I swear I did well on Herbology and Potion without any real problem, but when it comes to memorizing the dates that this spell and that spell was made, and that-one-greatest-magic-user-that-everybody-knows, and what happened to him, my brain just... kinda short-circuited, you know...?"

"I see. We need to work on your attention span, then." He glanced at the window next to you.

"No shit Sherlock." You grunted.  "Had I been able to do so, you wouldn't need to be my tutor."

Upon opening your notebook, you noticed it was partially empty, with some pages featuring only titles.

"Damn... I missed a lot of lessons, huh?"

"I'll let you copy mine." Lance passed his binder to you. "Next time, remember to come to class."

You nodded quickly and grabbed the papers from his hands like a life ring.

While you were working, your blue-haired tutor casually checked on the necklace locket that he wore.

Out of curiosity, you took a quick peek at it and were shocked to see a picture of a blue-haired little girl looking a little like him.

"????"

"It's my sister."

Noticing that you were looking, Lance closed the locket and calmly said.

You didn't know what to say. "That's... nice to hear...? She looks adorable, by the way."

The other person immediately turned to you, face beaming bright.

"I know, right? She's so precious, she's the most precious thing on this planet-"

"CAN'T YOU TWO QUIET DOWN A BIT?" The librarian yelled at both of you for being loud. "There are other people here trying to study!"

You sent him a half-lidded glare. "Good job, you got us scolded."

Lance Crown stared at you with his pale ash-blue eyes. He let out a tiny scoff.

"Didn't you also-..., never mind, just shut up and study. Our session is timed, so ask me questions if you have any." He started working on his assignments.

"I don't even understand the subject enough to form questions..."

You chewed on your pencil and frowned.

Minutes passed, but you still couldn't comprehend the questions on your old tests. Frustration brought tears to your eyes, making your vision blurry.

Aghhh, what if I'm going to fail againnnn...

Because you were so worried, you didn't notice how Lance put down his pen and walked to your side.

"Why don't you try highlighting the questions?"

He swung one arm over your shoulder, guiding the highlighter in your hand.

His presence calmed you down a little.

"You're right, I should."

You waved at Lance. "Thank you for your help today."

He nodded and walked back to his dorm room.

"Who's that?" Dot Barrett appeared suddenly, pulling his friend from behind the corner. "Did ya get a partner?"

The redhead gritted his teeth, making scraping noises, face twisted with envy. Lance just averted his eyes, breaking the intense eye contact. He hit Dot in the head.

"Will you calm down? They're a student in my class; I'm tutoring them."

"Really..."

Dot frowned. His instinct was telling him that Lance was hiding something.

Lance, on the other hand, was checking his contacts.

After the first session, you begged him to give you his number in case you needed help with another topic, which he deliberately agreed to do. At first, he thought, "Nah, it won't be a big problem."

You proved him wrong with twenty-two calls that afternoon.

"Sorry, I know I'm being a bother, but what was your answer to question seven?" Your voice sounded cheerful on the call, the exact opposite of what Lance was feeling.

He ended the call with a "Don't know, I'm in the shower right now."

After being bothered two more times that night, he blocked your number and deleted your contact.

"Over here!"

You waved at the guy. Lance walked over to your table.

"We're having another test coming up soon." You said very seriously while crossing your fingers like a villain plotting their crime.

The dude just looked at you like:...??

You spread all the papers onto the table and continued speaking: "I need your help, 002."

"But we aren't spies?"

"We are sworn brothers, linked by bond, not blood." You corrected him.

"That doesn't make it any better!!"

Lance was truly left speechless by your unhinge manner.

Back to the point, you told him how you needed at least a fifty-one on your test to pass.

"I need your help."

The other one quickly refused, "Not happening."

"It's a win-win scenario." You explained. "I get to stay in the class, and you get to not tutor me."

"..."

After some consideration, Lance agreed to help you achieve your goal. His only condition was that you stop texting or calling him.

After thinking for a while, you decided to refuse!

Lance said it's not an option for you to choose, it's for him to still be your tutor and not fucking losing his mind at the same time.

You two came to an agreement that you could call at human time, meaning no later than 10 PM and no sooner than 7 AM.

...

World peace was achieved.

_____________________________

You two have been studying together like this for some time now.

Your teacher had recently said that there was no need for tutoring anymore since your marks went up on the quizzes.

However, you kept "randomly" finding Lance Crown sitting in your favourite study spot every time you visited the library, what terrible thing could happen if you just sat down with him and studied like before, right?

Also, for some reason, he had been really, really clingy lately.

"I heard there's a new coffee shop in town..."

"Wanna visit the library?..."

"Let's go buy food together..."

"..."

"Ugh, another question about Adam Job's feet." You complained to the blue-haired about the upcoming exam. "I got nothing in my head!"

He flicked your forehead.

"Focus."

"Ouch."

"By the way, great job on that test." Lance gave you a thumbs-up.

In response, you complimented him: "It's because you were the one teaching me!"

He deflected that one quickly. "I only helped you achieve your full potential; you did most of the work yourself. Be proud."

"Thank you for everything. After this semester, you won't be my tutor anymore, right?" You smiled like an idiot. "Congrats, you're free now."

"You sounded like you're gonna die." He paused with a scowl on his face.

You jokingly agreed. "Imma die if they don't give us fewer assignments, haha."

"It's not funny." He thought he was calm, but his voice didn't cooperate. "Don't die."

You were surprised at how serious he was.

"Geez, I was just kidding. Do I look like I'm gonna-" Before you could finish your sentence, Lance had already stood up and covered your mouth with his hand.

His face was hidden behind his blue hair, so you couldn't see his expression. However, you could tell he was upset.

"Don't die, don't disappear, don't cut off contact, don't say things like congratulations." His trembling voice reached your ears. "I will continue studying with you as long as you want me... as long as you want us."

"Lance..."

What do I do?

You didn't want to say anything to upset him but couldn't think of anything to say.

In the end, you've decided to be honest.

"To tell you the truth, I enjoyed our time together a lot. Every time you were with me, you put a smile on my face. You have always been nice to me, and I wanted you to also be happy. Sometimes, I thought about what I would do if you found me annoying, and I realized it would be better if I stopped bothering you..."

Lance shook his head, his eyes were filled with sadness. "No, you're not bothering me... I also had a great time being your friend. That's why I-..."

That's why I made up so many excuses to keep spending time with you! He kept that thought in his mind.

"You did?" You grabbed his hand.

He sat back in his seat, nodding quietly. You could see some redness behind his ears.

"Oh..."

"Then... why don't we start hanging out more often?"

You leaned over the table and held his shoulder firmly with determination.

Lance looked up at you, his once widened eye softened as he broke into a smile.

"You're right, we should."
