Chapter 9

Harry follows mindlessly behind Draco, barely thinking through his morning tasks. He felt completely fulfilled. Like it was something he should’ve done a long time ago. He lets himself stew in it for a while but eventually, he breaks out of it.

“Let's eat breakfast in the Great Hall today.”

Draco turns surprised. It's the first time Harry had spoken in a good fifteen minutes and Draco was beginning to worry it wasn’t as beneficial as he thought.

“We can sit with your friends since we sat with mine last time,”

“Are you sure you’re ready?” Draco asks.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine.”

Draco shrugs and they walk up to it.

Harry waves at his friends as they walk towards the Slytherin table. A lot of the Slytherins were shocked but Harry and Draco paid them no mind and just sat down and looped their bare ankles against one another.

“Wow Dray, you look like death,” Parkinson says, flicking a pumpkin seed in his direction.

Draco rolls his eyes, “Thanks Pans, I really appreciate that, truly.”

Harry is still dazed and barely registers what's going on.

He eats slowly bringing the food to his mouth as an afterthought. Parkinson's eyes dart between the two and she raises an eyebrow.

“What did you two get up to last night,” Parkinson says with a sly grin.

Draco takes the liberty of kicking her hard in the shin.

“Okay, okay, Do you think he’s ready for Hogsmeade?”

“Huh,” Harry says speaking up at last

“Its tomorrow,”

“But I haven’t gotten any better,” Harry says frantically, “I’ve only gotten worse.”

“You’re going to be fine,” Draco says.

“People can’t even approach you without me growling, that's not progress,”

“You felt comfortable enough to come eat in here,” Draco points out before yawning.

“Yes, a room full of people who know that if they approach you I might just attack them, so threatening, so much progress.” Harry slumps putting his head in his hands.

Draco yawns again and a, fifth year maybe, Gryffindor approaches the table.

“Aw, poor sweepy Malfoy,” The boy mocks in a baby voice, “Stay up all night looking for more ways to sabotage the savior of the wizarding world?”

Harry stands up but Draco yanks him back down to his seat.

“Of course what else would I do with my time,” Draco says fluttering his eyelashes sarcastically.

“Hmm, I could think of a few things, be a pain in the ass, torture people,”

Harry was audibly growling at this point the only thing keeping him from tearing out of Draco's grasp was the fear that it would hurt him. He still strained away from it. His teeth were too big for his mouth, he could hear the grinding of Parkinson's teeth from his seat, and he could smell the Gryffindor across from him deodorant (or lack of).

But suddenly and all at once there was a gentle humming in his head and calm energy was being pushed through his body. His senses were all directed on Draco now his brain mostly focused on the lingering smell of his scent on his skin. He had the strong urge to shift to be in front of him. Draco had said to embrace some of his wolfish tendencies, hadn’t he?

He moved in front of Draco and sends a message with the link.

“My wolf wanted it.” The humming continued and a sense of affirmative coursed through him but Draco didn’t let go.

“Fuck off,” Harry said. Not growled, not threatened, said. If not calm then slightly angry.

The younger Gryffindor looked at Harry pityingly, “I’m sorry he did that to you, Harry.”

Harry laughed, “I’m the one who cocked it up.”

Draco sent another surge of calm energy through the bond.

“Yeah, but he must have messed with the instructions in your book.”

“Grasping for straw I see,” Draco drawls.

Draco noticed that Harry had mostly relaxed now, no longer straining to escape his grip. Draco notes the way Harrys friends are beginning to stand up.

Granger, Weasley, Longbottom, She-Weasel, and Lovegood who was priorly residing in the She-Weasels lap.

They all sit down around him and go back to their conversations as if nothing had changed. The younger Gryffindor opened his mouth several times in an attempt to continue berating Draco, but every time he tried the Gryffindors would start all but shouting their conversations at each other. Eventually, he gave up scoffed, and walked off.

Draco looked around with similar disconcertment.

Without offering any explanation Weasley turned to Draco, “What an arsehole huh,”

He then shoveled six servings of scrambled eggs into his mouth. Harry grinned at Draco wildly before joining his friends in eating like a pig, Draco blinked several times.

“Wow,” Parkinson said looking at Draco, “Look what you’ve brought to the table.”

The older Slytherins were staring at the table with horror but the younger ones seemed happy.

Soon the entire Great Hall was filled with mixed tables. McGonagall stands at the front and stares forward with happy confusion.

Before the only one who had mixed the tables was Luna but with the entire golden trio plus some merging tables, well that set off a trend.

But even with all the inter-house unity he couldn’t help but notice a couple of Slytherins inching as far away from him as possible. Not just Slytherins though, at least two students in each house were giving him a wide berth as they walked by him.

As the day continued the same students continued to walk around him with a lot of space. He confronted one of the Slytherins in the hall on his way to class. Draco dragged Harry over to confront him.

“Why are you looping so far around me,” Draco asked pointedly.

With that, the confusion melts off Harry's face and turns to suppressed laughter.

“You read the book, Draco,” He whispers in his ear.

The student looked to Harry, “Can I speak to him,”

“What?” Draco asks.

“Yeah,” Harry's face was red with laughter.

“Um- Potter has scented you,”

Draco goes slightly red, “I didn’t think it would be that bad.”

Harry finally lets the laugh that had been bubbling out.

“I thought he was going to kill that boy.” The slytherin laughed.

A dark look drifted over Harrys face, “Shame scents don’t work on wizards.”

Suddenly Draco remembered.

“Did you just out yourself as a werewolf,” Draco sent through the link.

“Oh he already knew,”

Draco frowns, “I’ve never seen you talk to him before,”

“Didn’t need to,” Harry said, “Werewolfs already knew, the won’t tell anyone anyway,”

He nods and says good bye to the student before dragging Harry to aritmancy.

When they sat down, the all nighter Draco had pulled seemed to really be getting to him. When he had finally fallen asleep against Harrys shoulder Harry looks at his notes. They were detailed and had every single thing the teacher had said thus far written down word for word.

He would be mad at himself if he realized he had missed some notes. Harry began scribbling down everything Professor Vector said. It was the least he can do after Draco did all that research on werewolves and its his fault hes asleep in the first place anyway, its really just the right thing to do.

Harry tries his best to keep his notes legible.

When the class was finally over and he shook Draco awake, after reorienting himself he started to panic.

“I missed all of the notes, shit why didn’t you wake me up?” Draco said gathering his stuff hurriedly.

Harry sends calming energy through the bond, “You can copy mine.”

“You don’t take notes,” Draco says dryly.

Harry hands the notebook to him with a smirk. Draco rolls his eyes and flips through the notes.

“Wait this has everything,” Draco says shocked.

“Well I had to make up for you pulling an all nighter,” Harry says shrugging.

Draco just stared him.
