Dogday watched on in horror as Chief Proto pulled out Catnap's heart. And true to what he said, Catnap still had a fleshy, biological heart, that Chief Proto crushed in his hand. Chief Proto didn't even look behind him in time as Dogday dropkicked Chief Proto into the wall. Right as Chief Proto falls down, Dogday is already back up and punching away at Chief Proto's face. After a while, Chief Proto was able to gain the initiative by blocking the punches that Dogday was throwing at him, and eventually throwing some of his own at him. Dogday knew that he wasn't gonna last long in a one on one fight against Chief Proto, but he already asked for help, it was only a matter of time until the rest of the Smiling Critters, Poppy and Doey gets here and helps out Dogday with Chief Proto. Eventually, Chief Proto looks like he's not even trying as he dodges and blocks whatever attacks that Dogday tries to do to him, and his attacks and counter attacks hit probably three times as hard. Dogday stumbles backwards and tries to hit Chief Proto with a roundhouse kick which Chief Proto blocks and pulls Dogdays' face into his knee. Dogdays' ears rung and his vision went blurry as Chief Proto punched him right in the stomach, pushing him onto the ground as Chief Proto walks over.
"Don't you understand? I fucking loved Catnap! A borderline obsession! Ever since I saw him in the academy, I knew he was the right one that I could break and rebuild, time and time again, and he would still get back up. He was the perfect soldier, but his personality was more fit as a naughty slave to be broken, not a soldier. The feeling of the cold metal tightly squeezing around Dogdays' neck felt like an old execution method. Dogday then felt his senses get duller and dark spots appear in his eyes because of a lack of oxygen. Just before he felt like he was gonna slip away, right in the corner of his eye, he saw the elevator doors open to reveal the backup that he requested. A gunshot rang out which shot the arm that was currently holding and choking Dogday, causing him to fall to the floor. Chief Proto grunted out in pain while Dogday took in deep breaths, trying to get as much oxygen as possible.
"Well if it isn't Poppy and Doey, set aside your differences just for me, eh?" Chief Proto mockingly said to Poppy and Doey, who were there with the entirety of the Smiling Critters, including Kickin and Bubba who were with a restrained Allister and a not restrained Dr. Sawyer. Dogday quickly ran towards the body of Catnap, who was closer to the vault entrance door, the exact opposite side of where the reinforcements are. Dogday crouched down next to Catnap, his eyes were closed and there was a large gaping hole where his heart would be. Dogday then started to cry as he fell on top of Catnap's body, wrapping it ina tight hug as tears fell down his face.
"Death by firing squad, a preferred way of execution that I used to use on death row inmates while I was a warden, ironic that I am likely the last living thing to be ever executed this way." Chief Proto remarked as he brings out a large cigar from his pocket, lighting it and taking a long drag from it as everyone readies their firearms. Chief Proto breathes out a long puff as smoke as he rests the cigar in his mouth.
"I'm waiting for a count!" Chief Proto shouts out with his arms outstretched. At that point, everyone starts to unload their weapons at Chief Proto, and they didn't stop firing and reloading until 20 seconds of non-stop gunfire had passed. During the entire volley of bullets, Chief Proto was able to stand straight while only getting pushed back a slight bit. Once the volley was done, Chief Proto shakily grabbed onto his cigar as he trembled and and breathed in, some cigar smoke came out of the many holes that were now in the chief as he fell face down, finally dead. The group went over to where Dogday was at, seeing Catnap dead and Dogday crying over him made everyone mourn his death. After a while, Dogday stopped crying and stood back up, wiping away his tears.
"Doctor Sawyer, Catnap said that you would be able to help him out if he were to die. What can you do?" Dogday asks with a hoarse voice.
"Yes, how could I forget? The entire reason that Catnap was brought here to begin with." Dr. Sawyer then started to think and mutter. To himself as Dogday gripped onto Catnap's shoulder before letting go.
"We'll need his body for this, it could work if he's dead but that's only in theory." Dr. Sawyer said as multiple people, including Dogday, carried Catnap's body into the elevator, setting him down. Dr. Sawyer then walked over to the cold and lifeless body of Proto Amalgam and grabbed onto one of his large metallic fingers, pressing a button on his wrist and dislodged the entire hand. They then went up the elevator to one of the higher floors, and then followed Dr. Sawyer for a bit until they came across what seemed to be a dead end.
"Experiment 1188 - 1, Harley Sawyer." Dr. Sawyer said out loud, making a small hole in the wall appear. Dr. Sawyer then took out the metallic hand and inserted it's index finger into the wall. The wall then opens up, revealing a large opening that goes into a room. The group follows the doctor inside of the room to reveal what looked like a vat that has tinted glass. Dr. Sawyer then went to a computer and turned it on, typing out a command.
"Set Catnap down, there." Dr. Sawyer said as he pointed to a chair that was right next to the vat. Dr. Sawyer then finished the command, just as Catnap was set down, the tinted glass then faded and looked like normal glass, revealing a clone of Catnap with a tube down its throat, wearing some kind of electrode headwear, and floating in a cloudy liquid. Dogday stared at this clone and was switching looking at Catnap's body and the clone. The clone looked a bit smaller, it was closer to Dogdays' height. It's fur also looked more vibrant while Catnap's looked quite dull. But other than that, the clone looked nearly identical to Catnap.
"Is this a clone of Catnap?" Dogday asked Dr. Sawyer as the entire group also studied the clone.
"Yes. tailor-made to suit the late Chief Proto's odd taste." Dr. Sawyer said as he finished typing out stuff and went to grab another electrode headwear that was on a table and put it on Catnap's head, plugging it in to the vat.
"How does this work?" Dogday asked, making Dr. Sawyer stop and turn to him slowly.
"Are you sure you want to know? I have a video on the clone, explaining it in greater detail, but probably too much detail. When Catnap watched it he started to regurgitate." Dr. Sawyer said as he fidgeted with his hands. Dogday didn't exactly know what he was getting into, but it was better than not knowing what is currently in front of him.
"Yes, I want to see it, just give me a warning first." Dogday said. Dr. Sawyer then took a deep breath and described the contents of video. Dogday, the Smiling Critters and Allister, Poppy, and Doey all had their eyes widen at what Dr. Sawyer was saying, multiple people started to grimace and yell at the doctor but Dogday stopped them.
"I... I need to know every single detail. So show me the video, in it's entirety." Dogday said as Dr. Sawyer nodded and went back to the computer to play a video, when he was done, he stood up from the seat and motioned Dogday towards it. Dogday walked over and sat down as everyone else was behind Dogday, watching the video with him. After a while, the video was finished, and silence filled the room. Everyone was contemplating and processing what the hell they just watched. Dogday had an unreadable expression as he stood up and walked to Dr. Sawyer, who until this moment, had his eyes closed. He braced himself for Dogday to start punching him.
"Where is this remote that controls Catnap?" Dogday said. Dr. Sawyer was a bit surprised but then he nodded and waked over to a painting on the wall, taking it off to reveal a safe. Dr. Sawyer then inputted a long code which opened the safe, revealing only one item inside, the remote. Dr. Sawyer then handed the remote to Dogday who took it and inspected it in his hands. It looked like a simple remote for LED lights, but Dogday knew better than to start playing with the buttons, even if he already knew which one did what.
"If anyone should have this, it's Catnap. Lets bring him back." Dogday said out loud as he pocketed the remote. Doctor Sawyer then nodded as he walked over to a control panel that had its wires connected to the vat and the other electrode helmet on Catnap's body.
"This should go by pretty fast, so don't blink or you'll miss it." Dr. Sawyer said as he started to flip a few switches and turn some dials. Finally, slowly pushing a large lever forwards as the electrodes started to lights up and make Catnap's body and the clone spasm slightly. After a short moment, the lever was fully pushed and the bodies stopped spasming, and the clone started to stir awake. Dogday ran forwards and held his hands and his face up to the glass.
"Catnap?! Are you there?! Can you hear me?!" Dogday shouted to the clone as he tapped and knocked on the glass. Catnap then started to wake up and Dogday saw as Catnap's eyes widen seeing Dogday, shakily extending out his arm to meet Dogdays hand. Dr. Sawyer then pressed a button on the control panel which made the liquid drain from the vat and lower a portion of glass of the vat, making an opening. Catnap saw this and started to slowly pull out the tube and remove the headgear as Catnap tries to stand but falls to his knees.
"Dogday!" Catnap shouted through the glass with his hands slightly banging on the slowly opening glass. Once the water is fully drained and the opening is fully open, Catnap falls into Dogdays' arms and Dogday clutches and hugs Catnap as they both fall to their knees. "Oh, right. You're legs weren't being used in this new body, so you might take a while before you could walk again, you could probably go home now, though." Dr. Sawyer pitched in as Catnap nodded. "I think I could walk to my front door now." Catnap said as he opened his door while Dogday was turning off the engine.
