Chapter 6 There’s a First For Everything, Right?
The next few days flew by, even if it was full of his little sister Rome complaining about ‘having nothing to wear’ for the first day of school. She was starting at Blue Bonnet High, this year. She had also dyed he hair black over the summer.
Soon enough it was the morning of the first day of school. Remus woke up at 6am, it was hard to get back into his old school routine, but not as hard as it was for Rome. Their mom told them they were leaving the house at 7 so they better be read or they were going to be left. So Remus was surprised to see Rome at 6:55 hobling down the stairs trying to put on one of her shoes, her hair looked brushed but not as neat as it usual looked when she wanted to make a good impression. “Hey Remus, can you tide me an apple?” She asked falling on the couch finally pulled on her shoe. “Ya, did you wake up late?” Remus asked tossing her and apple as she caught it. “Is it noticeable?!” She asked panicked, popping up from behind the couch. “Never mind I’ll just ask Pandora for a brush or something at school” she said under her breath. Remus wasn’t sure if she was talking to him or herself, but he didn’t really care anyways.
“Out of the door!” Their mom, Hope, said opening the front door. Remus, who was fully ready at 6:30, came out the door first. “Get your ass out here Rome!” Hope yelled in the house. Rome cam running out of the house a moment later with her backpack half on. “That’s why you should wake up to your fucking alarm” Hope said closing the door.
The ride was full of Rime mumbling song lyrics and remembers while she did her makeup. When they were going down Courtney Lane, one of the bumpiest road sun town, they hit a pot hole. “Shit!” Rome yelled, the sudden movement made her get eyer on her cheat. “Watch your fucking language at school, okay?!” Hope told them. She always said she didn’t know where they got there cussing from. Remus knew where, it was her. She cussed in basically every sentence!
“Okay, don’t get in any trouble, I don’t what to get a call from any of those office bitches.” Hope told them as they got out of the car. They both nodded their heads in understanding.
As soon as they got out Rome pulled out her phone and started typing. “Who the fuck are you already texting? It’s 7 in the morning?!” Remus asked “It’s actually 7:15 first of all, and second of all it’s Pandora. I need to know where she is so I can use her brush.” Rome answered not looking up from her phone. Remus was so happy he didn’t like girls, they were so annoying. Well, most of them, not Lily, Marlene, or Mary, but every other one. “I’m so glad I’m gay, so I don’t have to deal with a girl like you’d bullshit every day.” Remus said before looking around to see if he saw any of his friends. Rome rolled her eyes before saying, “I did think there was something going on between you and Lily it you and Marlene, for the longest time!” She still didn’t look up from her phone. Rome was the only one who knew Remus was gay, and she promised she would keep it that way until he was ready.
“Remus!” Someone called from behind him, it was James. Remus turned around, it wasn’t just James. He was with Peter, Marlene, and Sirius. James was wearing a plain gray shirt, with a red flannel overtop, dark blue jeans, and his normal cowboy boots. Peter was wearing a ‘Star Wars’ hoodie, and blue jeans with some tennis shoes. And Sirius…oh Sirius. His hair was brushed over to one side, he had a white V-neck T-shirt with a black leather jacket and blue jeans.
Remus took a deep breath before walking over to the group. “Hey, so are we actually going to first period or Ms Karls?” Remus asked. Ms Karls was their freshman reading teacher. “Probably Ms Karls” James answer “Ya, but first who’s that hottie over there?” Sirius asked pointing somewhere behind Remus. Remus turned around to see he was pointing at it was…it was Rome! Rome his sister! “Fuck off, Black, that’s my little sister!” Remus said protectively turning back to the group. James and Peter started laughing their asses off as Sirius’ eyes got big with fear.
Sirius started to stutter trying to explain himself, when Remus said “Stop your fucking babbling nonsense, let’s get to Ms Karls. Her students this year are shit!” They all let out a light laugh before finally going into the school. Remus was surprised to think it, but he was excited for this school year.

It was Regulus’ first day of high school and his first day of school in Texas, how much worse could it get? He walked in as soon as their personal driver dropped him and Sirius off. Sirius saw James and Peter, and stayed with them as they tried to find Remus.
The school was full of people, way more then Regulus was expecting for the little town, that he learned from James, was not Fort Worth, but a small town right outside of Fort Worth. James taught Regulus a lot about Texas that day after the fair. He even introduced Country music to Regulus. It was okay, not his favorite, but Regulus didn’t really like listening to music anyway. One song James introduced Regulus to was ‘Heads Carolina, Tails California’ it was one of James’ favorites and Regulus really liked it too. It wasn’t the typical kind of music he enjoyed, but this song was different. Maybe because James introduced it to him, he doesn’t know, and doesn’t really care at this point. All he knows is that he likes it, and that’s the end of it!
Regulus’ parents requested a personal tour of the school for both Regulus and Sirius, but Regulus knew Sirius wasn’t going to show up. Regulus was though, he had no better to do. Well he could find Barty, but he was probably hanging out with his other friends like at the fair. Regulus didn’t mind, he needed to make more friends anyway.
Regulus made his way to the office where someone should be giving his tour, but no one showed. He waited there for about ten minutes before he was getting impatient. He would figure it out somehow.
Regulus started mumbling to himself trying to find his first period, it was room 125. Was is upstairs, or downstairs, was it to the left, or to the right, Regulus had one clue. He stood in the middle of the hallway for a minute looking at the room numbers. “You lost?” A voice came from behind him. He turned around it was a girl, she had black wavy hair, she had a red bandana with two front strands that were bleached blond, out of the bandana. She was wearing a white cropped top and blue bleach-tie-dyed jean shorts. “No I’m just standing in the middle of the hallway looking around like a dumbass.” Regulus said sarcastically. “You got some sass, I like it, I do to. My names Romulus, but you can just call me Rome.” She said with a laugh. Regulus was taken back, the amount of sarcasm he just used usually scared people off, thinking he was a rube bitch.
Rome took his schedule out of his hand and looked at, “Hey we have like all the same classes!” Rome excluded. She took him by the hand and drug him though the school hallways showing him all his classes. Rome was right, they did have all the same classes, well for the most part. They had different gym classes, one different elective, but other than that all the same. Regulus was fine with this, he got along with her. “The only thing that I didn’t like about my schedule is that I have the same lunch as my older brother.” Rome said when they were finally going to their first period, “same!” Regulus exclaimed. They had so much in common.
Regulus thought to himself for a moment before saying, “Rome do you know Barty Crouch Jr?” She stopped ubruptly “Ya, why? Did people tell you shit? Because that was over in 8th grade!” Regulus was curious now, what was over in 8th grade? “No, no one told me anything. I was just wondering because….he was my first friend here. You know, because I’m new.” Regulus said “Oh, okay. Ya I’m know Barty, he’s usually with Evan and Pandora, mostly Evan.” Rome said continuing to walk. “But what happens last year in 8th grade?” Regulus asked lightly bumping Rome in the arm. She let out a sigh before answering, “ Well, we might have dated,” before Regulus could stop himself he said, “What?! I thought Barty was gay?!” Rome cleared he throat before answering “He is, that’s the problem, but most of the school thinks he is straight but he definitely isn’t! I’m almost positive him and Evan fuck or at least have!” She exclaimed. Regulus let out a laugh “Ya I think he has had to had fucked someone with that kiss-“ he was too late he said it. Rome stoped upruptly again grabbing Regulus’ arm. “You kissed him?!” She exclaimed. Regulus shushed her. “Wait you’re gay?” She asked now in a whisper respecting Regulus wanting her to be quiet. Regulus nodded.
Rome started laughing, Regulus looked at her confused. “Sorry, it’s just I should have guessed, that’s all” Regulus looked at her still confused. “They way you talked about the mystery boy, and what happened at the fair.” Rome explained. Regulus told her everything that happened in the last few days while she was showing him around. Regulus rubbles the back of his head then continued walking to their first period.
Their first period was Science, personal Regulus thought it was way to early for science. Thankfully because it is the first day, they just went over the drills and rules. It was going to be a boring day, but at least he had Rome. Later that day he also decovered he also had Bart in a good bit of his classes too, but he wasn’t much help he was always with some blond kid.
Regulus thought lunch couldn’t come any slower. The first half of the day was going by as slow as molasses, as Rome had said. But when lunch finally did come around they busted out of the boring classrooms, and ran to the cafeteria.
Rome and Regulus were looking for an empty table for them to sit when someone called out “Hey Reggie! Come here!” It was Sirius, why did he have to do this?! When Regulus is with his new friend too! He took a deep breath before turning around. Sirius, Remus, James, Peter, Marlene, Mary, and Lily were all sitting together at the table right behind where him and Rome were standing. “You got yourself a girlfriend?” Sirius teased, just to see what reaction he could get out of Regulus in front of James, because Sirius knew damn well Regulus was gay. Regulus just rolled his eyes, he knew what Sirius wanted from him but he wasn’t about to give it to him. “Wait that’s your brother?!” Rome asked, Regulus nodded his head confused. “Remus is my brother!” Rome exclaimed, Regulus instantly realized, Rome was the girl Peter was telling him about at the fair. She was nothing like Peter described though, which made Regulus glad, because Regulus hated girls like Peter described.
Rome went over to Remus and whispered something in his ear, but Regulus could make out what she said, she said “I understand why you like him, he’s fucking hot!” Regulus cringed at the idea that his new best friend thought his brother was hot. Remus’ eyes got wide, but he took a breath before answering “Mom said to watch your fucking language, you little shit” Rome took a step back from Remus before her comeback “like you’re watching your fucking language, bitch”
They were about to continue looking for a table when “Hi Regulus, how has your Freshman year gone so far?” James asked kindly. “Uh…good I guess it’s just boring stuff right now no actual school work yet.” He tried to keep his voice steady, man why did James have to do this?! He was so nice, and kindhearted, fucking hot all the time!! Why did he do this to him!? It was like torture! “Well if you shitheads don’t mind we are going to find a seat away from y’all.” Rome said pulling Regulus by his wrist.
They found an empty table a few tables down, nether of them had their lunch yet but they needed to talk about a few things first. “Okay, first things first, you think my brother is hot?!” Regulus asked in shock. Rome nodded defiantly. Regulus face gaged a little at the thought. “I think I know who mystery boy is though!” Rome said excitedly. “I don’t it” Regulus said defiantly. “It’s James.” Rome said quickly. “What?! How? Am I that obvious?!” Regulus stuttered. Rome nodded and laughed.
Suddenly there was someone standing behind them. They turned around slowly in their seats, “Narrcissa?” Regulus said, it was his older cousin, but how was she here? She was in New York. “You two are in our seats,” she said sternly. “Well can you just find a different seat, we were here first.” Rome shot back “Get your asses up! We are Seniors, you are Freshman. We had those seats first” Narrcissa said getting in Rome’s face. Regulus grabbed Rome’s wrist and got up, and went to the lunch line.
“Reg, why did you do that?! We can’t just let her boss us around!” Rome said pulling her wrist away from Regulus. “Rome it’s just a seat, and it’s the first day of school. I don’t want to already make enemies especially with my cousin.” Rome looked shocked “she’s your cousin?! But I thought you had no family here?” “Me too” Regulus said confused. After they got their lunch they found another table.
After lunch they had a free period, it was for for studying, but because it was the first day there was no studying. It was just students making friends and/or catching up with their old friends. Thankfully they were allowed outside in the field. They both sat down under a big tree and Regulus got out a book.
“Oh my god, they look like chickens with their heads cut off!” Rome said, she was watching a few girls attempt to do cartwheels, “I can’t do a cartwheel, either” Regulus pointed out “Ya but you aren’t attempting it!” Rome shot bake still looking at the girls. “I’d like to see you try” Regulus challenged Rome looked at him intensely then got up. Regulus looked up from his book to watch Rome.
She stood for a second before running, then doing a round off, then 5 backhand springs in a row, then ended with a sack tuck. Regulus was amazed. But he wasn’t the only one, the whole call surrounded her asking her tons of questions. When Rome was able to push out of the group she sat back down next to Regulus. “You proved me wrong!” Regulus said amazed. “You want to go inside now?” Rome asked, she was out of breath. Regulus nodded and put his book back into his backpack.
When they got inside they saw a few flyers. One said, “Cheer Tryouts This Friday!” And other one that said “Football Tryouts This Friday” Regulus grabbed Rome’s wrist so she would stop. “You should tryout” Regulus said pointing to the cheer flyer. “No, I will literally suck!” Rome said with a laugh. “With your tumbling and shit you will have to make it!” Regulus encouraged. Rome let out a sigh before saying “I’ll try out for cheer is you tryout for football.” Regulus looked confused “why?!” “Because you have a good arm! You throw that pencil from across the classroom in reading perfectly!” Rome exclaimed. Regulus thought for a minute before finally saying “Fine, I’ll do it” They both walked away from the flyers with smiles on their faces.
The rest of the day was slow and boring like the beginning. Just drills and rules, all day, but he did have a friend to suffer with him. Rome also destacted Regulus from the boring teacher and PowerPoint. She told him all the drama and shit from last year, not only from the Freshman but the Sophomore too! Regulus learned that Rome was close with Sirius’ new friend group, and was not invited to the fair by her “bitch ass big brother” as she said, Regulis told her that he was happy she wasn’t at the fair because then she would have to witness the most embarrassing moment of his life. Passing out on a fares wheel because the only person that could stop him from passing out/his major crush, was with his girlfriend. Rome laughed at how Regulus explained it.
When the school day was finally over Regulus went out to the front of the school to wait for their car, but it wasn’t there. Sirius came from behind him and started dragging him on the sidewalk. (not actually dragging him) “Sirius where the fuck are you going?!” Regulus asked flinging, Sirius’ hand that was on his shoulder “dragging” him, off of his shoulder. “Mom and Dad aren’t going to be home until 6, so I called the driver and pretended to be dad and told him we didn’t need to be picked up today.” Sirius answered. “Then how are we going to get home?!” Regulus asked, thinking Sirius is the stupidest person on earth. “James, and everyone walk home together, so we are going to join them.” Sirius answered.
He wasn’t giving Regulus the choice to walk home with them he was telling him what they we doing if he liked it or not was not his problem. Regulus agreed not wanting to start an argument, at least Rome was in the group because she was Remus’ sister.
She was talking to Lily, Regulus never took interest into talking to Lily. She seemed nice and all but he didn’t really feel comfortable casually talking to his crush’s girlfriend. But he was going to give it a try.
“Hey Rome, hi Lily” Regulus said trying to sound friendly. “Oh hi Reg!” Rome greeting him, Lily just waved politely. They small talked for the rest of the walk, Lily was also trying out for the cheer team. But Regulus found out probably the worst thing that could have happened with this deal between Rome and himself. James ‘Fucking Hot As Fuck And Athletic As Fuck’ Potter, was on the football team last year and is trying out again this year.
“So did you do anything interesting today? Or find anything interesting?” Sirius asked when they were finally home. He was in Regulus’ room. Regulus never knew why Sirius always talked in Regulus’ room and not his own, he had did the same thing in New York too. “What do you mean ‘find anything out’” Regulus asked confused flopping onto his bed, he was exhausted. “Like if that hottie you were hanging out with all day is single. Or are you dating her?” Sirius teased. “Remus already told you to fuck off because that is his little sister and I thought you liked Remus?!” Regulus aaked now sitting up. “I do like Remus, damn I’m in love with that boy, but if I can’t have him, I might be a boot have his sister.” Sirius said cheekily. Regulus hit him lightly with a book on his side table.
“Ok, ok, but are you two together or something? Why was a hot ass girl hanging out with you?!” Sirius asked snatching the book from Regulus. “You know we aren’t together, I’m gay, I know that, you know that, and she even knows that!” Regulus exclaimed. Sirius looked shocked, “she knows you’re gay?! Does she also know about your whole James obsession?!” Sirius asked still shocked, Regulus nodded his head.
They talked there on Regulus’ bed for the next 20 minutes before their parents got home and asked them about school, their parents didn’t really care what good they did at school, they just wanted a reason to punish them. When the ‘interrogation’ was over Regulus thought about James, but not how he usually did. He thought about what it is like for James when get home from school, with his caring mother and father. Regulus wished he had James’ life, it would be so easy to be happy and kind, but Regulus was stuck with this life, his miserable painful life.
