“I’ll go with you.” Hermione said with tears rolling down her face. Harry could feel his heart breaking more and more. He was not going to back out of this.
“No, Kill the snake, then it’s just him.” He said. Hermione launched herself and Harry, hugging him like her life depended on it. Harry put his arms around her and looked over at his other longest friend. He didn’t have to say anything, but they both knew. That was the thing he loved about his friendship with Ron, they just know without words. Footsteps came from behind Ron and Hermione pulled back and Harry looked up.
He wished he didn’t.
Draco Malfoy was standing a few feet away from Ron on the stairs. His beautiful, sweet, charming boyfriend. He was even beautiful with bruises and dirt covering his face. The prat. Harry could feel the guilt and sadness rise up to his chest instantly, hitting him like a punch to the gut.
“Draco.” Harry said quietly, loving the way his name sounded in his mouth. Draco. My Draco. They didn’t need to say anything else before Draco was hugging him tighter than he’s ever been hugged. He couldn’t care at this moment because he was sure he was doing the same thing.
“Please, j-just stay.” Draco’s voice cracked a little as he pleaded. Harry choked back a sob. He wanted nothing more than to stay with Draco. Maybe they could just run away from everyone and everything, never look back. They could get a nice cottage north. They could farm even. They could start a family. They could get a pet cat. They could grow old together. They could just be happy.
But it wasn’t that easy.
“You know I want to, and if you asked me again I probably would.” Harry said, lifting his face up to look into Draco's eyes. He searched for any happiness or hope, and all he got was sadness and heartbreak. More tears streamed down the blonde's face as he shook his head.
“This can’t be the end- it wasn’t supposed to end like this.” Draco said, refusing to look Harry in the eye. Harry swallowed.
"It's going to be okay Draco. I want you to tell-"
"Shut up, Harry! You're not going anywhere." Draco said. Harry shook his head and leaned his forehead against Dracos and closed his eyes.
"Take care of Hermione for me, please. Tell Blaise and Pansy they are amazing friends. Please try and get along with Ron." Draco choked back a sob.
"You are the best thing that has ever happened to me Draco. I'm not going anywhere. I'll always be with you." Harry whispered, and then leaned in and kissed him one last time. He would never feel these lips on his again. It was salty from the tears and full of bittersweetness goodbyes, but Harry needed this. He pulled back after a few seconds.
"I love you. Keep your eyes closed." Harry whispered. He pulled back slowly from Draco. He backed away and made one final glance to his friends, who were comforting each other. He looked at his boyfriend, the man he was going to marry one day, have a family with, grow old with, the man he was now saying goodbye to.
Goodbye, My everything.
Harry turned and walked down the stairs to his death. He couldn't look back.
If he were to look back though, he would have seen Draco on his knees crying, Hermione hugging him also crying, and Ron's hands on both their shoulders.
He didn't look back.
