Soulmates exist. But you have to have psychical contact with them. Then a soulmark appears that represents your soulmate.
(it's the same as the show but they are soul mates)
Villanelle always thought she would never have a soulmate but then she meets eve.
Eve came from a family who hates soulmates. She was raised that having a soulmate is wrong. Her family was also quite emotionaly abusive
So when she met Niko her family told her that he would the best she would ever be able to get.
When she meets Villanelle she trys to ignore the bond.
Thinking that her family was right as her soulmate is a killer.
