Sunday

Linggo na.

Maki was curled up on the chair beside Coleen’s hospital bed, her head resting on the mattress, exhausted from the whirlwind of emotions. Hindi niya namalayang nakatulog na siya doon, clutching Coleen’s hand like she was afraid to let go.

Coleen stirred, blinking her eyes open as she adjusted to the dim light of the room. She felt something warm against her hand and turned to see Maki, fast asleep. Her heart skipped a beat at the sight.

"Maki..." she murmured hoarsely. "Anong... bakit andito ka? Also, nasaan tayo? Napaano ako?"

Maki jerked awake, instantly alert. "Coleen!" Relief washed over her face as she sat up straight. "Pahinga ka lang, nahimatay ka sa stress. I'm sorry for stressing you."

Coleen gave her a tired but confused look. "Sunday na, Maks. Paano yan? Hindi mo na maabot ‘yung deadline. Paano ang kumpanya mo?"

Maki exhaled, shaking her head.

May masakit ba? Maki asked.

Coleen looked down at her left hand and frowned. "Ah, mahilig naman talaga ako sa bling-bling. Bakit?"

Maki forced a smile. "Wala naman... sige, kain ka lang."

She spent the entire day with Coleen, making sure she was comfortable.

In between conversations, she would discreetly study her, searching for any flicker of recognition. But Coleen seemed like her usual self—sarcastic, witty, effortlessly charming—but with no hint of their past engagement.

Maki’s phone rang. Atty. Silverio.

"Maki, remember your deadline. May board meeting ka bukas."

Maki sighed. "Okay na ko, Atty. Silverio.

There was a pause before Atty. Silverio spoke again. "Maki, sigurado ka ba sa desisyon mo?"

Maki nodded to herself.
