The day it all started
Regulus knew this day would come, he had known it for a long time.
He just didn't expect this day to end with him standing next to Remus Lupin.
A few years before, Regulus' first day of year five in Hogwarts.
Today is a normal first day for him, he arrives at the platform on 9 3/4 and meets with Pandora and Even Rosier.
Regulus met the twins in one of the events his parents had set up for purebloods. They found the very only children there and started talking about how much they didn't want to be their parents and this conversation between them at the age of seven heralded years of friendship.
As they boarded the train to Hogwarts and found their regular carriage they entered to the sound of giggles coming from Barty and Dorcas.
Dorcas was in the same house as Regulus and Even “Slytherin” and was a good friend of Barty's who was in the same house as Pandora “Ravenclaw”.
The five arrived at the Hogwarts castle entrance and went to dinner but Regulus decided he was too tired and instead went straight to the dorms.
On his way to the dungeons someone ran straight into him, he was about to tell whoever ran into him that he should look where he was going but as soon as he looked up he saw that the figure was already standing and holding out a hand to help him not to get up from where he was on the floor.
It was Remus who reached out to him and apologized as he did so “I’m sorry, I wasn't looking and… um,”.
Suddenly Regulus had nothing to say, he had seen Remus around the school before but never noticed him, never noticed the scars he had on his face that looked like silver and his brown sandy hair and his moss green eyes that glowed in the candlelight, and he never notice Remus Welsh accent. Regulus didn't notice but he was staring.
Later that night Regulus was in his dorm sitting on the edge of his bed when Evan entered the room and started telling him straight away what he had missed because it turns out that Regulus' brother Sirius and his friend James got on the table and started singing to welcome the new students and Sirius slipped and fell into Remus lap.
Regulus didn't listen to the story until the part where Evan mentioned Sirius falling for Remus, he doesn't know why it suddenly bothered him but he knew he didn't like it.
"ho, why the face?" Even asked him.
He didn't even notice that he was making a face. "What face?".
"that face like you're going to kill someone." There was a pause and then Even added "It's not because I mentioned Sirius, is it? because I thought you worked things out between you two."
"Everything is fine between me and Sirius, I'm just tired and have no patience for the stupidity of my brother and his friends"
"Ok, good night then"
"Good night"
He laid back down and fell asleep almost immediately due to the long day, but one thing stayed in his mind and that was why he felt this way about what Evan had said about Remus and his brother.
The next morning Regulus awoke to the sound of the door opening and whispers between Evan and Barty.
"You have to go before you woke up Reg "
"Seems too late to worry about that, good morning Raginals"
"Berty, I swear if you call me that one more time, I'll make sure you can't sneak in here anymore"
"Reg, I'm sorry I tried to get him out of here before you got up" Even looked at Barty with an annoyed and tired face
"It's ok Evan I know you are doing your best to deal with this idiot," Regulus said in a tired voice
"Yeah, but he is my idiot"
Regulus sighed and Barty laughed as Evan pushed him towards the door.
