Chapter 2
Walking into History of Magic class, [Name] sits at their seat and waits for the rest of the class to come. Once everyone was sat down and it was time for class to start, Professor Binns immediately started his introduction which then spiraled into a lecture, already getting into the classes subject. Next, they went to Transfiguration where Professor Mcgonagall was waiting. After that class was over and break time had started, [Name] walked down the lane between the tables, stopping just beside Harry and Ron. A space was available in between them so they sat down there, causing the two boys to look over. "What are you doing here?" Harry asks his upperclassman.
"Sitting."
"Wouldn't you prefer to sit with your Ravenclaw friends?" Ron asks this time, curious as to why they would sit with them when they have hardly spoke.
[Name] looks over to Ron, their steely gaze making him feel nervous causing him to look away. "I thought we could be friends."
"F-friends?" Rons head snaps up, staring at [Name] baffled.
"Yes."
"Well, uhm.. I guess." Ron tries to sneak a peak past [Name] at Harry.
Harry shrugs, "I don't mind."
[Name] grabs both Ron and Harry's hand into theirs, causing both of the boys to stare at them in shock, Rons face flushes a light red while Harrys cheeks flush a nice shade of pink, both being flustered at such a bold move and from someone they both started to fancy at that!
"E-Excuse me.." Harry starts off, staring down at their intertwined hands. "Why'd you.." He holds up their hands to show what he's trying to hint at.
"Friends commit various acts of physical contact. Unless.." [Name] lets go of both their hands and reaches into their own uniform and starts digging around for something in one of their pockets. [Name] eventually pulls out a book and opens it up to a certain page, skimming the lines. "Was I wrong?"
Both Ron and Harry lean over, closer to [Name], trying to see what they're reading.
"No, it says right there." [Name] snaps their book closed and puts it back into their pocket. Harry just barely caught the name on the cover, it read 'How to Make Friends'. Harry covered his mouth and looked away, barely being able to stifle a laugh at the book his new friend owns.
When Harry turned away from [Name], a boy a little further down the table caught his attention.
"Eye of rabbit, harp string hum, turn this water into rum." He chanted, flicking his wand at the cup in front of him. "Eye of rabbit.." He continues to say as Harry turns to [Name].
"What's Seamus trying to do with that glass of water?" Harry asks, [Name] glances at Seamus before returning Harry's gaze.
"He's trying to turn it into rum. There's a spell that allows you to change the liquid of certain things."
Ron jumps into the conversation upon hearing the topic, "I actually managed a weak tea yesterday, before..." A loud sound erupted from Seamus' cup, his face covered in soot while his cup has smoke leaking out of it. The students around him laugh at his failure but it soon dies down as the loud screeches of owls echo through the room.
Ron looks up as owls fly above them, "Mail's here."
Various packages and letters land on the table in front of the students they belong to. Along with the owls flying overheard, a black cat jumped onto the table and dropped a sealed letter in front of [Name]. "Thank you, Schmoopie." The cat meows, rubbing its head against [Names] hand while they pick up the letter.
"Can I borrow that?" Harry gestures to the newspaper Ron received, Ron nodded so [Name] grabbed the newspaper and passed it to Harry.
"Hey, look! Nevilles got a Remembrall."
"I've read about those. When the smoke turns red, it means you've forgotten something." Hermione informs them as the ball turns red, Neville turns to look at her.
"The only problem is, I can't remember what I've forgotten."
"Hey [Name], Ron! Somebody broke into Gringotts. Listen. 'Believed to be the work of Dark wizards or witches unknown.. Gringotts goblins while acknowledging the breach, insist nothing was taken. The vault in question, number 713, had, in fact, been emptied earlier that very same day.' That's odd. That's the vault Hagrid and I went to." Hermione, Harry, and Ron glance around at each other, confusion evident on their faces.
A small ripping sound catches their attention as confetti, glitter and quite a lot of chocolate frogs suddenly spring out, the chocolate frogs jumping around a bit. Everyone in the surrounding area looks at where it came from, seeing [Name] covered in glue, confetti, and glitter, a few chocolate frogs on them while they are holding a now opened letter. "Oh."
Further down the table, George and Fred snicker quietly, examining [Name] for their reaction. Wordlessly, [Name] stands up from their seat and walks out of the room, not a single change in their expression. Fred and George groan in disappointment, "Guess we'll have to try harder."
"Agreed."
George suddenly groans in slight pain, holding his side. Looking over at the culprit, he sees Percy glaring at him. "Will you two stop that? After last year I thought you two would give up."
"Aww, lighten up Percy. Just havin' a bit of fun. They don't seem to mind it."
"Wouldn't you wanna see them show us something else rather than that boring deadpan expression."
"I'd rather see them smile, not be scared or mad because of one of your stupid pranks."
After watching them walk out, Harry turns to Ron and Hermione. "Think they'll be all right?" Ron shrugs while Hermione sighs, grabbing all of her stuff and she too, walks out of the room.
"What's up with her?" Now it's Harry's turn to shrug.
Hermione sees [Name] down the hallway from her so Hermione quickly picks up her pace to reach them. "Excuse me!" Hermione calls out, catching [Names] attention. [Name] stops in their tracks and turns to the girl. "Are you all right? That was quite the nasty prank."
"I'm fine, they have done worse before anyways. I'm thankful it was just this, they gave me a snack along with it as well." [Name] plucks a chocolate frog stuck to their shoulder and takes a bite into it.
Hermione cringes a little at the sight before focusing back on the task at hand. "Do you need help taking all the glue and glitter off."
[Name] stares at Hermione, thinking for a bit. 'Friends.. help each other.'
[Name] finally nods, making Hermione let out a breath of relief she didn't even know she was holding.
"Lets get you to a bathroom then." Hermione gently grabs onto the not dirtied part of [Names] sleeve, tugging them along in the direction of the bathrooms. Hermione secretly being thrilled at being able to spend time with them.
...
After getting all the glue, glitter, confetti, and chocolate frogs off, break had ended and [Name] was on their way to their next class until they suddenly stopped in the middle of the hallway, their eyes becoming noticeably unfocused.
Grass field..
Hanging boy...
[Name], without any hesitation, turns around and runs down the hallway in the direction they just came from, bumping into a few students along the way.
_
"Welcome to your first flying lesson." The gray haired professor said, standing in front of her students. "Well, what are you waiting for? Everyone step up to the left side of their broomstick. Come on now, hurry up."
Everyone moves forward, doing as she says and stands on the left side of their broomstick.
"Stick your right hand over the broom and say, 'Up.'"
Immediately, all students stick their right hand out over the broom and say "Up!", Harry's broom immediately flies into his hand, Draco's following soon after.
"Up. Up!" Ron commands his broom only to receive no response.
"With feeling." Professor Hooch adds.
"Up. Up! Up?" Hermione tries, only for her broomstick to shake around a little.
"Up! Up!" Rons broomstick shoots straight up and smacks right into his face. Ron groans a little in pain, Harry chuckling at the display.
"Shut up, Harry."
"Now, once you've got hold of your broom, I want you to mount it." The class all move their broomstick underneath them in a mounting position. "And grip it tight, you don't wanna be sliding off the end. When I blow my whistle, I want each of you to kick off from the ground, hard. Keep your broom steady, hover for a moment.. then lean forward slightly and touch back down. On my whistle. Three, two.." Professor Hooch then blows her whistle.
Neville immediately starts floating in the air while the rest of the class stay planted to the ground. Neville begins to whimper out of fear for the sudden height he has gained from the ground.
"Mr. Longbottom." The Professor says sternly as he hovers unstably as he begins to go higher.
Neville starts to scream as the rest of class chatters loudly.
"M-Mr. Longbottom!"
"Down! Down!" Neville shouts at his broomstick but it doesn't listen.
"Neville!"
"Help! Help!" Neville screams as his broom begins to go even higher and faster.
"Come back down this instant!"
Nevilles broom flings him around a bit before crashing into a stone wall before diving down towards the crowd of students, who all quickly dodge out of the way.
Nevilles broomstick takes him under a nearby archway before flying back up again while passing a statue holding a long spear, but due to the proximity, Nevilles clothes gets stuck onto the spear. "Help!" Nevilles uniform begins to rip, students were gathering below him shouting up at him. Nevilles uniform finally rips, making him fall again only to get stuck on metal framed torch. Neville soon slips out of the overcoat on his uniform and plummets once more, only to get caught again but not on something, it was someone.
Neville had his eyes closed tight but once he realized there was no pain from impact, he peaked up at the person holding him. "Are you all right?"
"Everyone out of the way!" Professor Hooch yelled out, making the students create a clear path to Neville and the student that caught him. "[Last Name]! What do you think you're doing here!?" Sighing, Professor Hooch looks at Neville, who whines in pain from getting tugged around so quickly in such little time. "Might have a few sprains.. Poor boy." She sighs before looking at the other students watching. "Everyone's to keep their feet firmly on the ground while I take Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing." Professor Hooch then faces [Name], whispering, "And you, to class. Come along now, then." Professor Hooch places her hand on [Names] back, them still holding Neville in their arms.
"Do you all understand? If I see a single broom in the air..." Professor Hooch continues speaking to the rest of the students as she and the two students walk away, "..the one riding it will find themselves out of Hogwarts before they can say, 'Quidditch'."
"You can stand, right Neville?" Professor Hooch asks.
"Uhm.. Yeah." Neville nods at her causing [Name] to reposition their arms to let Neville down.
"Now then, off you go to class [Name]. I'll let you off this time since you saved one of my students." [Name] nods at Professor Hooch and gives a small wave goodbye to Neville before walking down the hallway in the opposite direction of the two.
After a bit, [Name] finally reaches their class where Professor Quirrell was teaching. [Name] wordlessly enters the class and sits in the only seat left open, the one right next to Oliver Wood. Professor Quirrell noticed them entering late but decided not to say anything and continue his lecture. "...putting the ingredient in-"
"Professor Quirrell, excuse me. Could I borrow Wood for a moment please?" McGonagall suddenly appears at the door of the classroom, interrupting Professor Quirrell.
"O-Oh, yes, of course." At Professor Quirrells answer, Oliver sits up and follows Professor McGonagall out of the classroom, allowing Quirrell to continue his lecture.
...
"Seeker? But first years never make their house teams." Rom and Harry are seen walking out of their class, students and ghosts talking about the news of Harry Potter being the new seeker for his Houses quidditch team. "You must be the youngest Quidditch player in.."
"-A century, according to McGonagall." Harry cuts in.
"Hey, well done, Harry. Wood's just told us." Harry hears one of the Weasley twins voice behind him, causing him to turn around and see Fred with [Name] tucked under his arm, George being on the other side of the group walking next to Ron.
"Fred and George are on the team too. Beaters." Ron tells Harry, catching his attention. Seeing this, George decides to pitch in as well,
"Our job is to make sure that you don't get bloodied up too bad. Can't make any promises, of course. Rough game, Quidditch."
"Brutal, but no one's died in years. Someone will vanish occasionally." Fred adds-
"But they'll turn up in a month or two!" George finishes as Harry and Ron walk off, Fred still holding onto [Name], forcing them into hanging out with him and George during their break period in between classes.
"We've gotta task for you, [Name]."
"You up for it? Don't worry, we're thinking of starting off slow this year."
[Name] nods their head, causing the twins to cheer. "Alright, I'll go get the bucket." Fred tells them, running ahead before disappearing around the corner further down the hall. George takes this as his turn to wrap his arm around [Name], although less tightly than Fred's, and leads them down a different hallway.
Suddenly, George ducks down behind a pillar, bringing [Name] with him, the two practically hugging as they try to stay hidden. Ignoring his flushing cheeks, he peaks around the corner, "Do you see those group of first years over there?" He points towards a small group of a few Slytherins and a Ravenclaw.
[Name] leans against Georges chest, peaking around the corner with him, trying to see who he was pointing to.
"Yes."
George turns back to them, "The plan is to dump a bucket of bugs onto them. The beetles have a weak sticking charm to them so they wont be easily shook off. And since this is the first prank of the year, we decided to let you have a go at it first."
[Name] would smile if they could.
Suddenly, a pressure is felt on [Names] back. Hot air tickled their ear causing them to turn around as much as they could, being met with familiar red hair. Fred smiles down at them, his face flushed and slightly out of breath from all the running around. A bucket was set beside him, the clank noise unnoticeable from all the students walking around in the halls.
Thankfully, there weren't a lot of people wandering the hallway they were in. The scene of the two Weasley twins squishing another student in between them with a bucket of beetles beside them would be a bit awkward for any onlookers.
"Well, let's get started, shall we? Don't want to lose our chance of an easy target."
[Name] nods in agreement, taking out their wand. "Wingardium Leviosa." [Name] whispers, doing a swish and flick at the bucket with their wand. The bucket smoothly floats up into the air, high enough for no one to notice it unless they were looking at the ceiling. Gently guiding it in the direction of the students, [Name] stops it right above the group of freshman. They take a quick glance at George, who was staring at the scene in anticipation. Fred leaning even closer over [Names] shoulder to get a better look.
Without another moments waste, [Name] flicks their wand causing the bucket to tip over, spilling the bugs over the younger students.
Screams immediately erupted out the second one of the students noticed the sudden abundance of beetles covering them and their friends. They desperately started to shake their clothes and try to wipe them off using their hands, realizing it was futile, they started taking off their robes and sweaters only to realize that some of the beetles had already crawled underneath their shirts and are now crawling around directly on their skin. And due to all the panicking and screaming, the bugs grew frightened themselves and released their defense mechanism- a liquid like spray with a strong fume that will have you smelling like dung for weeks.
"We should probably get out of here soon, can't be getting caught. Especially with you around." Fred gives a quick wink, grabbing [Name] by their arm and hoisting them up along with himself and making a quick dash away, [Name] still in Fred's hold and George not too far behind.
