Funeral Grey

James sat in bed late Thursday night, map in hand and scanning the castle. For what? He wasn’t quite sure. Something, anything to give him something to do for just a moment.

James Potter wasn’t easily stressed. Really he wasn’t! But with his OWLS rapidly approaching, Sirius annoyed over a lost quidditch game ‘it was rigged James!!!! RIGGED.’ And an irritable almost full moon Remus, James simply needed a break. Just a quiet moment alone in a room by himself.

The main castle was for the most part empty so making his was to the astronomy tower was a simple task with his invisibile cloak.

The trek up the astronomy tower stairs was long and steep. Really the tower would get used so much more if it was just a little bit easier to get to the top of.

“Bloody hell” James murmurs to himself reaching the landing connecting the stairs to a rounded doorway leading into the main tower.

James hadn’t heard it walking up the extensive set of stairs but when he reached the top of the tower and leaned himself in the doorway he was shocked by his findings.

Laid in the middle of the astronomy tower floor, cigarette in hand and soft music notes flying around him was none other than Regulus Black.

James would be lying if he said the Slytherin boy had never crossed his mind. He was mysterious and smart and merlin was he beautiful.

“You know that shits gonna kill you.” James stated announcing his presence.

Regulus’ head snapped towards him, he looked shocked, maybe even slightly startled at first before quickly composing himself.

Regulus stands, slowly taking another drag.

He makes his way over to James.

They’re close.

James Potter has never been in such close proximity to Regulus Black but in this moment he’s decided he never wants to be further that a foot from the latter.

Their chests just barley not touching.

A small smile spread onto Regulus’ face before he exhaled, blowing smoke straight into James’ face.

“Well now you’re gonna die too.”
