Unicorns and Explanations

It’s the next day. Care of magical creatures lesson. Hagrid has been replaced by Professor Grubbly-Plank. They’re learning about unicorns.

“Alright,” she said. “I’ve got some unicorns here. Girls, come here and you can pet them. Boys, stay back. Unicorns prefer the woman’s touch.”

But the unicorns ignored the girls, much to Lavender’s despair. They seemed to like Percy. All three of them were crowding around him.

“That’s a myth, Professor,” he said while running his hands though one of the unicorn’s manes. “Unicorns can sense people’s auras, they prefer more peaceful ones. The ones that pose less danger.”

The unicorns liked Percy because of the Poseidon-horses thing.

“Have you encountered unicorns before, Mr Jackson?” Professor Grubbly-Plank asked.

“Yes, we have some back home,” Percy replied. The unicorns were at Camp Jupiter, but that’s besides the point. “And pegasi as well.” Those were at Camp Half-blood.

“Ooh, have you ever flown one?” Lavender asked, excitedly.

“Mm hm,” said Percy, remembering Blackjack. “It’s pretty fun.”

“I need to come visit America sometime,” Lavender squealed.

If you can even see the camp, Percy thought.

“Kids, focus,” the Professor called. “Who can tell me what exactly unicorn draught is and what it’s used for?”

Hermione’s hand went up, as per usual, so did Hazel’s. Grubbly-Plank called on the latter.

“Unicorn draught is the shavings from the horn and it has healing properties,” she answered.

“Correct!”

*at night cuz idk how to write*

“Ok, so, Hermione, yesterday, me and Harry followed the new kids because they snuck out and they said they’d explain everything today and that we should bring you so, you in?” Ron explained to Hermione, who was knitting hats for house elves.

“Sure, I’ll come,” she said. “But don’t you think it’s a bit weird? I mean, what if it’s a trap and they’re followers of Voldemort?”

“If they worked for Voldemort, why wouldn’t they just want me on my own?” Harry replied.

“I guess,” Hermione said. “When did they say to meet them?”

“1 am,” Ron told her. “And it’s already twelve so we should get the invisibility cloak.”

Harry went up to the boys’ dormitory and opened his trunk and got the cloak out. Jason was there, laying on his bed, fidgeting with a large gold coin that looked nothing like wizard money.

“Hey dude,” he said. “You’re coming with your friends, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Good, see you in a bit.”

Harry got the cloak and went down to the common room. After a while, the only people who didn’t go up to bed were the Romans and the trio of wizards.

“Let’s go then,” said Reyna. “I don’t want to sit here in silence any longer.”

The trio put on the invisibility cloak and the Romans simply walked out. “Won’t Filch catch you?” Harry whispered.

“Nope, we’ll know he’s there before he can even think of someone being here,” Reyna told them. “We have heightened senses compared to average people.”

“How?” Hermione asked her.

“Perks of being attacked a lot, I guess.”

“What?”

“We’ll explain later.”

They got to the empty classroom and everyone else was waiting.

“Great, everyone’s here,” said Percy. “Explanation time. Annabeth, you do it.”

“So do you know about Greek mythology?” Annabeth asked the trio.

“Kind of,” said Hermione. “Just Zeus and the other Olympian gods.”

“I can work with that. So all of that is real. The gods live in America now. They still have kids with mortals and such. We’re all kids of Greek and Roman gods. Egyptian and Norse mythology also exists but that’s another story.”

“So your powers come from your god parents?” Hermione asked. All this was very interesting.

“Yes,” said Reyna.

“I’m still not exactly sure what you’re talking about,” said Harry.

“Greek and Roman gods are real and had kids. Us and the other kids at our camps.” Percy paraphrased.

“Camps? As in plural?” Hermione asked.

“Yes. There are two camps. Camp Half-blood for the Greeks and Camp Jupiter for the Romans.” Jason explained.

“Wait, I thought the Roman gods were just the Greek gods with different names?” Hermione asked.

“No, they look and act different,” Percy said. “But the thing they’re the god of doesn’t change much. In most cases.”

“What do you mean?” Ron asked.

“It doesn’t matter!” Nico said. “That’s not what we’re here to discuss. We’re demigods. I’m a child of Hades, Percy’s one of Poseidon, Thalia’s one of Zeus, Annabeth : Athena, Will : Apollo, Piper : Aphrodite, Leo : Hephaestus, Jason : Jupiter, Hazel : Pluto, Frank : Mars, and Reyna : Bellona. Understand?”

“No,” said Harry. “No,” said Ron. “Yes,” said Hermione.

Nico facepalmed.

“We have powers based on who our godly parent is,” he said simply. “I can summon skeletons and zombies, and teleport using shadows.”

“Ok, got it.” Ron and Harry said in unison.

“I have water powers,” said Percy. “And I can talk to horses.”

“Wot?”

“Me and Jason can control storms and lightning,” Thalia said ignoring Harry. “And he can fly.”

“Can’t you?” Hermione asked.

“She’s scared of heights,” Percy supplied helpfully (not). Thalia slapped him. “Ow!”

“I have fire powers,” said Leo. “And I make great inventions.”

“I have charmspeak,” said Piper. “Basically mind control.”

“Is it like the Imperius curse?” Ron asked.

“No, you can get out of that with enough will power, you can only resist charmspeak if you can use it too. Also the Imperius curse is illegal.”

“I can summon precious stones and metals from inside the earth,” said Hazel.

“I can turn into any animal,” said Frank.

“And you already know that I can share my strength,” Reyna said.

“And I make good life decisions,” Annabeth concluded. “Now that’s done, I’ll tell you why we’re here. Hecate, the goddess of magic, once decided to gift some mortals with magic. That is why you guys have these powers. So, she sent us here because of an evil wizard who you know as Voldemort. We were sent here to help the kid who the prophecy is about.”

“What prophecy?” Hermione asked.

“Our oracle, Rachel, said a prophecy that told us someone here is destined to defeat Voldemort.” Percy explained. “And we think it might be you, Harry.”

“Me? Why?”

“A lot of reasons,” said Percy. “But we’re here to help you kill Voldy-moldy. So, you can’t tell on us, ok?”

All of a sudden, they heard a sound. It was Filch, patrolling the corridors.

“Hazel, Mist!” came Annabeth’s voice.

“On it!”

After a while of holding their breaths, they heard the noise of Filch moving away.

“Can we trust you?” Annabeth asked the wizards.

“Of course,” Harry said.

“Don’t even think about ratting us out,” said Nico. “I can destroy you.”

“You promised no doing that!” Will said incredulously. “You can’t destroy people, Neeks!”

“Just ignore them,” said Reyna. “But if you let the other wizards know, we might not be on the same side anymore. Is there any way we can know you won’t tell?”

“Not really, no,” said Ron. “Do you have some way?”

“Yeah, swearing on the Styx,” Leo told them.

“What happens if you go against the swear?” Hermione asked.

“Slowly, but surely, you’ll pay,” said Will, remembering what happened to Apollo.

“How?”

“Terrible things’ll happen. There are things worse than death.”

“But it might not be binding since you guys don’t have godly blood,” Nico said.

“Good point.” Percy said.

“You’ll just have to take my word for it then,” said Harry.

“Ok,” Annabeth said. “Though, I will not hesitate to hurt you if you betray us.”

“Calm down, wise girl,” Percy said.
