Mary had finally felt prepared enough to go outside after hours of getting ready before having to look after her baby which usually meant she had to get changed again. Around 2 o’clock she escaped the house, her mother looking after her son to give her a break. She loved Dean, but everyone needs time away. Shopping for clothes was difficult after the baby because her body had changed in so many ways. Though there were clothes that whenever she saw them made her feel sorrow seep into her bones once again, yet she couldn’t tell you why they made her feel this way. Time dragged on as she tried to move past the grief that had settled deep in her gut. After an hour and a half, she had bought some presentable clothes that weren’t covered in baby sick or formula that had been spilt in the middle of the night or crumpled from days of use.

Mary decided she needed to get a drink, even if just to stall going home for a bit, and headed into the nearest coffee shop. She wanted to talk to adult friends so badly and swore she could almost remember having friends so close the were family, but over time convinced herself she had dreamt up the red-haired girl and the blonde with the kind slytherin girl and those boys. She decided that it was just lack of sleep and being up for long hours causing her to day dream. Her family didn’t know that she was dreaming of her teenage years because she feared they would get worried about her. Her teenage years were a haze in her memory, nothing was clear up until around 22. She remembered her lessons in mathematics and science and a group of jokers at school.

The queue was short, so soon she was at the counter ordering a simple latte and a piece of carrot cake. The cafe was cosy, furnished with big comfy fabric armchairs and small wooden tables. The walls were hidden by floor to ceiling bookshelves, rammed full of books, most old and worn, but a few newer ones were disguised among them .Something about the employee struck a chord in her heart, but she couldn’t pinpoint why. He looked exactly like one of the men out of her dreams, his name was something weird to do with Re-. She remembered it was unique. A quick glance at his name tag fixed her curiosity over his name yet only really gave her more questions. Remus. Scars were carved into his skin marring every inch of his skin. Sandy brown curls hung over his sunken amber eyes. His eyes shone with the glint of haunting knowledge, but when he looked at Mary unbridled sorrow paired with pity welled in his eyes.

He made her coffee quickly before wandering up to the man who ran the music and asking him a question which made him smile as he replied. Mary was the only customer still sitting in the cafe after around 10 minutes the staff had filtered out past her, all except Remus and the music man. Though after a few more minutes, he left too, leaving her alone with Remus. His cleaning supplies clunked heavily as he threw them into the trolley.

From the speaker, the first few notes of a song that Mary knew she had heard in her dreams. It was the song she had dreamt of sitting with Remus listening to as they … grieved ? Her eyebrows knitted and her mind raced. She was puzzled over what she had been grieving in her dream. She knew what the song was now, A great big gig in the sky. They had told each other that Prongs and Flower were waiting for them. The sorrow filled music ran over her like a cold shower. He was dancing slowly as he cleaned down the tables while humming the tune to himself. They weren’t dreams, they were memories. The song faded to its close and he turned off the speakers, but his hands shook and Remus tried to valiantly hold back his tears.

“I don’t remember anything, Remus.”
“I am haunted by memory, Mary.”
