Chapter 2
"I should get started in trying to figure out whether I could cancel magic.... I'll have to ask my agents to get some of those magic people to volunteer for me."
He sat up from his bed in his wonderful shipping container and went to sit at his desk. He picked up his phone and called Mori.
"Why hello Dazai-kun! How is the English going?" He heard over the phone. Did he have to do this...
"Hello, Sir. I called to ask if you could help me find any agents who could find me some of those "magic" people so I could test if this magic could be nullified by me."
"Good job Dazai-kun, I see you have been successful in your English. And yes, I can arrange for some of the magic bearers to meet you, however, you will have to... dispose of them. All right?"
"Yes of course. Goodbye."
He hung up. Of course, he would have to kill them, especially if they were going to be from England, they couldn't know where he came from. However, Mori wouldn't know if he spared one of them. A smile came across his face. He could cause some trouble for that monster. How wonderful! And then he could commit suicide after! What a great plan!
Turning around on his chair, he threw the flip phone onto his bed and leaned back in his chair. He looked around, all he had was a desk with a chair, a bed, and a small refrigerator. Why did Mori not give him a house? He did everything and more. It wasn't fair. He never got anything. Oh, whatever. It doesn't matter, nothing does.
He got up and crossed the room arriving at the door. He locked the three locks that had been bolted into the crate. He walked back to his bed and took out the knife that he had taken many people's lives with and has tried to take his own with. Maybe this would be it! He would be gone forever.
Dazai gripped the knife and put it to his wrist vertically. He recently learned that this way would be more effective than horizontal cuts. He pressed down and ran his knife through the skin. The blood flowed but somehow, he had not fully cut to his ulnar artery. It colored his bandages a beautiful familiar crimson. It hurt. Bad. He started to feel dizzy but whatever, he’ll keep going it still doesn't feel like enough. He added a horizontal cut and watched the pool of blood grow. Maybe it will work!
---------
It didn't. Now he was in Mori’s doctor's office tied down to the bed. Again.
“Dazai-kun, just when I thought you were getting better you prove me wrong, but you did come to my office like you said you would so, I guess that is a point for you.” Dazai heard the voice of the man that he hated speak from beside him. “You will have to stop this behavior while you are staying at the school you know; I suggest you stop now.”
“Oh- okay.” Dazai croaked out. He looked at his left arm. It looked even more bandaged, great, now he doesn't have to do it himself.
“You are free to leave once you can solve the math problem in front of you. Or in an hour if you can’t. This way I can check if you have been studying every day.” Mori told him in his dumb voice.
Dazai looked up at the clipboard on the wall. It had an algebra problem on it, He looked at it and sighed. It was basic. He could do it easily without paper but instead, maybe from the loss of blood, he struggled to.
w/3 +6=8
It really wasn't a hard problem. He learned this years ago but when he looked at it, it seemed to keep changing. Huh?
Dazai took a deep breath in and out and closed his eyes. He tried to relax and not feel like an absolute idiot. He still felt idiotic after a few seconds, but he sucked it up and opened his eyes and looked at the problem again. Now it was easy.
w/3 +6= 8, subtract the 6.
w/3=2, multiply by the reciprocal of 1/3 (3.)
w=6.
(A/N I actually did the problem solving for this while I wasn't at school, applaud me I’m torturing myself. And yes, I know it isn't hard but still😭 and also if it is wrong then damn)
Done. Easy.
“The solution is six, Mori-san.”
“Very good Dazai-kun! I'll take off the restraints now and you are free to go.” Mori exclaimed, obviously happy that he was in-fact still doing all of his studying every day.
He began to sit up the second that the restrains were removed, it hurt to move his left arm, nothing he wasn't used to. He quickly swung his legs off the medical bed and promptly walked out the door. Then Mori called after him.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, but you have been out for about five days, so you have three days to prepare now. Goodbye!”
He was out for FIVE days?! Oh whatever, it doesn't really affect him but that does mean that Mori probably got some of the magic people he asked for. This was confirmed when he walked to his office to see two people sitting there and a note on his desk. He picked up the piece of stationary and read it.
“Here are the subjects with magic as you so nicely requested, make sure to dispose of them when you are done!” The note read. Since Mori asked so nicely, he will make sure to listen. And by nicely he means that Mori also put a threat in the note. You see the note also read, “By the way, if I find out you did not do as I said, you know what happens.” Looks like his stupid plan from five days ago is off. Damn.
“Hello, we are the tutors that you asked for in charms. Your father said that you needed to learn some magic before you got to Hogwarts.”
This surprised him, who would be his dad? Mori? Ew. The two people who sat there were obviously British and they also probably did not know Japanese because other wise they would have greeted him in Japanese. They didn't do this however, they greeted him in English. He decided to test his hypothesis.
----POV change to the tutor's perspective (1st person)----
There was a pause for a moment after I talked and turned to look at the other tutor I had been sent with. He looked nervous, I was too. There was something about this place that didn't seem right, the building was filled with guards and people with guns, a thirteen-year-old had his own office and on top of that the kid looked like he was about to drop dead. He had bandages all over and some blood on his left arm. This whole thing doesn't seem right. Then after what felt like a few minutes, the boy opened his mouth to speak .
“こんにちは、わざわざ日本まで家庭教師に来ていただいてありがとうございます。私の名前は太宰治です。” (“Hello, thank you for coming all the way to Japan to tutor me. My name is Osamu Dazai.” I’m not sure if this is a correct translation, if it isn't please tell meJ)
Great, Japanese. He looked at us waiting for a response. Though I swear I saw a smirk on his face. Then he went to talk again. This time he was understood, loud and clear.
“Don't worry, I speak English. So you will be engaging in a mock battle with me today, and before you say we can't do that just remember that you are in a special place of Yokohama. Now you will follow me, it's an order.” The boy now had his hand to his hip. I saw a flash of metal. He either had a knife or a gun. I knew it felt strange in this place.
“Yes sir,” I answered quickly. Then I felt a small tap on my thigh. I looked to my side and saw the other tutor giving me a confused look. He then went on to do the dumbest thing possible in this situation… argue.
“You do realize we can report you afterwards for threatening to kill us, correct? So I suggest that you stop talking to us like you are better than“ There was a flash of silver. The flash went right into the arguing tutors neck. Then the kid walked over to him and smiled. Like a demon.
“And I suggest you don't talk back. Oops, I warned you a bit to late. Sorry! Actually, don't flatter yourself, I really don't care.” Then he reached out his hand and pulled the knife out of the poor guys neck. There was blood all over the floor. I was horrified.
“Thank you for understanding what I meant in that threat. Unfortunately, he didn't, now let's get going.
I followed. And followed. And followed until I was in front of a shipping container. Huh?
“Now I have something to tell you, I have the ability to nullify all other abilities with one touch. I want to see if I can nullify magic too.”
I thought for a bit. This is a crazy circumstance to be in. But nothing I can do about to now, I don't want to die. So I did what I thought was best.
I raised my wand and said in a strong voice, “Lumos!”
I saw him flinch a bit at the flash of light. That’s odd but he hid it very well. He took a step closer to me and then grabbed my hand. The light went dead. He smiled. It wasn't a happy smile, it was a bit twisted. Like he had unlocked so many possibilities. Then he stopped smiling and his face went back to a corpse like state. Then he said words that I never thought I would hear but I was so relieved to hear them. But not the second part.
“I won’t kill you. You better not say anything to anyone about me. If you do then you will feel guilty for the rest of your life about what will happen to me. Do you understand?! I could kill you right now if I wanted to.”
He seemed to actually mean what he said. I nodded and bowed. I figured it was the right thing to do because I saw everyone else so far bowing to show gratitude. Then I turned and ran until I reached an alley that didn't have either something dead in it or someone having sex in it and then apparated back to London, England. I was alive, somehow.
