Regulus might have told James that he was not the only one Regulus was sleeping with, but it was all a lie. Regulus has slept with someone in the past, not after James. It was like cheating even though they had never discussed their sex life before, but Regulus couldn't.

Sirius laughed as to reply to him then he proceeded to slip away from Regulus and James with Remus. They both were holding hands as they strode in the arcade.
Regulus felt an arm on his neck and then on his shoulder. He knew it was James so he didn't look back but James pulled Regulus close to himself. "And you my love? What do you think of my fabulous outfit?"
They held eye contact, James didn't know but Regulus' heart was competing in the F1 race, and his heart was definitely winning. The pet names were usual between them but not the "my". They never said "my" before anything, until now. "My love" The words were ringing in his head, as James continued to stare at him, up close. He wanted to say those three words, just now but it would ruin everything.
"Hmm?" James said yet again, pushing Regulus to himself a bit more. Regulus had to tilt his head up to meet James’ gaze, but couldn’t maintain it as James was too focused on his lips. He couldn't do that, didn't know how. James and Regulus have fucked before, so many times even but not once have their lips touched. They surely made "love" that night. It was just like their first time but a bit more intense. James stopped every other moment to kiss Regulus on the lips, to smile at him. He looked up at James, as he was laying on his chest and James yet again smiled at him. He saw the tears in Regulus' eyes but didn't say anything, he just wiped them off smoothly.
Regulus sat up and cleared his throat, and James like always followed his suit. It was now and never, he told himself so he forcefully looked at James. James was attentive, like he knew what was Regulus about to say but he was patient.
"Jamie. I- I am in love with-" He didn't get to finish his sentence as James launched himself on Regulus and captured his lips. A laugh escaped from Regulus as he was startled by the sudden affection. James kissed his forehead, then cheeks, then nose and then his chin. With every kiss, he said, "I. Love. You." Lastly, he kissed Regulus fully on the lips and spoke "I'm so in love with you."
