Author’s Note: This is a short piece I wrote after watching Goblet of Fire (which time I don’t know.) Padma is a Ravenclaw here like she is in the books. AU fourth year.

Ron’s Apology

Ron saw Padma Patil and a bunch of Ravenclaw girls turn the corner and he followed them. He needed to speak with Padma for a moment. One of the Ravenclaw girls turned to Padma and whispered none too quietly, “The Weasley boy that took you to the Yule Ball is following us.”
“He didn’t exactly take me. If he took me that would imply that we went together on a date. We didn’t,” said Padma. Ron silently nodded in agreement, knowing that she was right.
“Padma, can I speak with you for a moment?” asked Ron, pretending like he hadn’t heard their not so silent conversation. Padma eyed him skeptically, before nodding yes. The Ravenclaw girls with her giggled. He recognised one of them as being Mandy Brocklehurst and another who he thought was Lisa Turpin.
“How can I help you?” asked Padma coldly, crossing her arms across her chest. She was still burnt because of the Yule Ball. He pulled Padma to the side and cast a silencing spell, disappointing the Ravenclaw girls who were ready to eagerly listen in.
“I wanted to apologise for the way I treated you at the Yule Ball. I know you only went with me as a favour to Parvati and Harry. I wanted to thank you for that,” said Ron. “I could try to explain myself, but I doubt you’d want to hear it.”
“Humour me,” said Padma her voice a little warmer.
“I was so caught up in the Tournament, which I know is no excuse, but it’s true. I was also dealing with the whole Hermione/Krum thing. I’ve had a crush on Hermione since she was petrified in year two,” rambled Ron. He didn’t know why he was sharing that with Padma, no one knew how long he had liked Hermione, not even Harry.
“Then why didn’t you ask Hermione to the Yule Ball?” asked Padma, she had wanted to ask the question since the dance.
“I was embarrassed, and I did ask her, but it was too late. Plus, I bombed with the way I asked her. I think I said something like, Oi, Hermione you’re a girl. She said, Expertly spotted. So, I blew it,” answered Ron sheepishly.
“You really did bomb,” laughed Padma. “I accept your apology.”
“Thank you. I promise that if we have another school dance, I’ll ask you to dance,” offered Ron.
“Well, I promise to accept if my date doesn’t mind.”
“Okay it’s settled then,” said Ron and he shook Padma’s hand in a friendly manner and ended the silencing spell.
“Bye Ron,” said Padma and they went their separate ways both smiling.
