Futile Action

They said nothing. Not a single person seemed to breathe as he walked towards the other champions.

Arguing ensured.

As if he could ever have a hope of giving Hogwarts an advantage! What was a fourteen year old going to do to full grown adults? But they didn't care about that. Neither did his headmaster, only giving him a look of disappointment before going back to appeasing his foreign peers. Not that it mattered. The goblet had already gone out and, as the ministry helpfully added, there was no backing out of a magical contract. No matter how angry the French or the Eastern Europeans became, they couldn't force me to not compete, not without killing me anyways.

Funny how they kept arguing about it for another half hour.

If only that was the worst of it. No, my Potter blood wouldn't be satisfied with only upsetting an entire continent of magical users. It needed more. And so, I trudged towards Gryffindor. Towards my house. My friends.

She wouldn't look at me. Hermione Granger, the girl who had become my second ever friend refused to meet my eyes. That stung. Though the rest of the house giving me the silent treatment also didn't help any matters. Apparently they didn't tolerate cheaters.

The lying sods

And then came Ron. Sitting on his own bed, neither of us said anything for awhile. Both content with the silence, I guess. Well, at least until he wasn't. "Why didn't you tell me Harry? You know how much I needed this? Harry-"

His hair was unkempt. Thrown about like the rest of his attire leaving me to wonder why he never spent much time on his appearance. For someone who cared so much about what others thought, he sure didn't try very hard.

"-Harry? Have you even been listening to me or are you to full of it to care!"

Did I care? I think I did, or I thought I was supposed to. But as he impatiently tapped his foot, waiting for me to say something, anything-

I didn't. I didn't try to defend myself or my innocence. It had been a long day and I wanted to sleep.

And so I did.
