5 year before the fame
James walked around the house hungover from the night before looking for any of his friends who remained there; the only person he found was Regulus cleaning up the solo cups that laid practically everywhere in James living room.
“You know I can clean up my own living room Regulus” James stands there leaning against the door frame watching Regulus.
“Ok then come help James” Regulus continues to clean only briefly looking in James direction before taking the twenty ish solo cups he was carrying to the trash.
“Oh but I am liking the view I have” James laughs looking at Regulus’ ass as he disappeared into the kitchen.
There was a little laugh from regulus in the kitchen before he went silent
After a couple minutes Regulus walks back into the living room looking at James with some half sad smile on his face, arms crossed as he shakes his head at James.
“You know this won’t last right? You are leaving for L.A. tomorrow to make your music dreams come true and I am moving to Europe next year after I finish school to become a writer and photographer.” Regulus’ words were too real, James knew it for at least the last month now but to hear Regulus say it pained him.
“We can make it work after all we have lasted months against your mother’s approval” James always tried so hard to the positively as he knew Regulus couldn’t.
“This is different James and you know that. We will be a days drive away from each other this year and next year we will be in very different time zones don’t you get it, we can't last.” Regulus looked at James like the words we were paining him to say just as much as they pained James to hear.
James didn’t want to look at Regulus a part of James knew what he was implying but he just couldn’t accept it. He didn't want to accept it. James left the door frame where he was standing and grabbed some of the stray garage around the house.
“I know you don’t want to hear it but it is true. We can’t stay together James. I mean we can stay friends but we can’t continue dating especially with Sirius not knowing” Regulus spoke again following James into the kitchen.
“Why don’t you come with me you can be a writer in L.A. and we can stay together” James was just looking for something to make them stay together.
Regulus shakes his head not saying anything. After a couple of seconds he grabs his stuff and leaves James standing in the kitchen. At that moment as Regulus left all their adorable firsts came to mind fist kisses, first I love yous, first time holding hands everything but all he could do is watch Regulus walk away after breaking up with him because he couldn’t handle long distance.
{The next day before James and the others get on the plane}
James had everything he needed in suitcases. He was both excited to finally pursue his dreams but also upset that the night before he ended it with his boyfriend.
“Are you guys ready this could be our big break” Sirius was way too loud for it being 5 am.
“Hell Ya!!” Peter was just as bad both of them basically screaming while James and Remus struggled to stay awake.
When they got to the terminal they were glad to find out there flight is boarding in 20 minutes.
“Thank goodness we don’t have to wait forever” Remus laughs tiredly in relief. Remus is not the most patient person in the world.
They all sit down waiting for boarding when James and Sirius spot short ass Regulus running over to say goodbye to his beloved brother.
“Hey guys I had to say bye this could be the last time I see you in years” Regulus hugs Sirius then Peter, then Remus and pauses at James but hugs him too.
While they hug James has to say it knowing he may never say it again. “I love you Regulus” James whispers so only Regulus can hear as he hopes he will say it back.
Regulus sighs before whispering back. “You will learn to stop loving me” Regulus says just a little too calmly before pulling out of the hug.
“Terminal 32b is now boarding” some random guy says over the intercom.
The four of get ready to board but not before Sirius and regulus have an adorable brother moment.
“We have to go Sirius” Once again Remus isn’t very patient.
“God remus why don’t you just kiss my ass” Sirius didn’t actually know what he was saying but supposed it sounded good enough.
{1 month after moving}
James and Regulus talked every now and then neither of having time for long phone calls or anything but still held up decent text conversations.
“I think Regulus has a boyfriend, this guy is always with him and they are sooooo close” why did that have be the first thing Sirius says after coming back from his brother’s after 2 weeks.
“What?” James tried not to seem to interested but he was listening to every word.
“Ya his name is Evan Rosier” Sirius seemed happy for his little brother even if he was just assuming.
“Right that is awesome” James nods acting like he doesn’t care, but in fact he does care.
(Regulus Pov while Sirius was visiting)
“Hey Sirius this is my friend Evan Rosier” Regulus introduced them about 3 minutes after they first met as he could tell Sirius was itching to know who he was.
“Nice to meet you Sirius” Evan smiled kindly not knowing what harm he could possibly cause.
“You too Evan” At that very moment Sirius makes many assumptions most of them are completely wrong but will never tell anyone he assumed and that is wasn’t said or confirmed.
(Regulus Pov same time James’ was)
Regulus decides he hasn’t talk to james in a while and shoots him a simple text.
Regulus: Hey
He doesn’t get a reply at first but at every notification he checks his phone hoping it is James.
(James pov)
He looks at his phone and sees the text from Regulus not on whether he should answer or not after hearing what Sirius said.
After about 5 minutes of thinking he closes his phone deciding it wasn’t worth answering and he would even know what to say anyway like “hey I know it has only been a month but how is your new boyfriend” like hell no not happening. He just tells himself when he calms down he will answer.
(Regulus’ Pov)
After 3 days oh no reply Regulus stops checking his phone. After another week of no reply he deletes the text on his end not wanting to see it and after another week he deletes the conversation.
“I know I said he would learn to love some else but damn that was quick” he says sadly to himself.
