I’ve Got You, Always

I woke that morning with a job. I needed to talk to Remus about the best course of action to take in making James trust me again. After the slip up of my backstory he was even more distrustful. It hurt a lot, but was understandable.

I met Remus in the library after breakfast just like he does in the future. He glanced at me as I sat down and raised an eyebrow while turning the page.

It was a painfully familiar expression that didn’t belong on such a young face.

I decided to break that silence, “I need your help to get James to trust me again. What’s your ideas?”

Remus put down his book, making sure to mark his page. He then turned to me and said, “I know it’s hard but tell him the truth.”

”…Alright…” I agreed.

I wasn’t ready whatsoever, all the worst case of scenarios running through my head. However, it would be best for him to know and it would be more help. We were all meeting by the lake after class, and Remus said I should tell him then.

Remus and I were there first. I was pacing anxiously, and rambling off all the bad things that could happen.

”What if he decides he doesn’t want a kid in the future because he doesn’t like me! Then I won’t exist-“

Remus grabbed my shoulders, “Enough. You’re worrying for nothing, James would do nothing of the sort.”

James was the first to arrive, stating, to Remus, “Sirius and Peter were trying to talk themselves out of detention.”

It didn’t surprise me, but it made this all the more stressful.  It hurt he ignored me, but a small part of me was confident this would fix that.

I licked my lips that were suddenly dry, and felt Remus put a hand on my shoulder.

“I know you don’t trust me… And I want to tell you the real truth.” I say swallowing hard.

James raises an eyebrow, “…Fine. But if I find out this is a lie again-“

Remus stopped him, “James, relax. She’s telling you truth.”

James stays silent and looks at me for a minute before managing a small smile, “Go ahead Fawn.”

I take a deep breathe before stating, “I came from the future with a mission from the person in charge of the order-”

James interrupted me, “Time travel?! That’s, that’s,…Do you know how amazing that would be for pranks!”

I laughed slightly still nervous.

Remus smacked James shoulder, muttering, “Of course that’s where your mind goes. And she’s not done.”

James looked back to me, “There’s more?”

I nod before saying, “My real name is Brooke Potter, and I’m your daughter.”

James stared at me shocked, his glasses slightly askew, and Remus was patting his shoulder, “You’re what?”

I bit my lip, “I’m you’re daughter, I didn’t plan on telling you but I need you to trust me. Remmy and I didn’t see another way..”

James still had his jaw dropped as he looked between the two, “Remus…?”

Remus smiled, “It’s true, and she’s honestly like a mini you.”

I smiled with watery eyes at that, it was nice to be compared to my father.

James looked at me in shock before shaking his head and walking off, “I’m sorry I- . . . .”

I gasped slightly and tears started running down my face. I knew I would be a disappointment. I knew I’d just be turned away by another person. But…this hurt coming from my dad. I rushed out of the dorm, ignoring Remus’ calls.

Sirius and Peter were finally walking in, laughing because they got out of detention. I rush pass them ignoring Sirius’s call.

I ran and ran until I finally came across the astronomy tower and I hid in the corner where no one could see me less they were looking. I sobbed into my legs for the first time in my life: I allowed myself actually cry.

Suddenly an warm arm wrapped around me and I gasped looking up to be met with his warm brown eyes, “Sirius…”

”Shh…” he pulled my head into his shoulder, “Let it out love, we can talk after.”

I wrapped my arms around him and cried into his shoulder, not caring how weak I may have seemed. And Sirius was here, holding me and telling everything would be all right.

And I believed him.
